Swansea University Application Deadlines

Swansea University runs two international intakes each academic year, September (primary) and January (secondary), plus quarterly research entry points. September carries the widest programme choice for Indian students, and January opens a shorter window for popular Master’s programmes and undergraduate courses. All 2026/27 dates below are drawn from the Swansea University admissions deadlines page.

Swansea’s primary intake for Indian students is September, and most programmes open there. Courses can close earlier than the published deadline if seats fill, so early submission matters for competitive Master’s such as Data Science and Business Analytics.

Alongside application deadlines, Swansea sets separate document deadlines (7 December 2026 for January 2027) and deposit deadlines (11 December 2026 for January 2027). Missing the document or deposit date can void an accepted offer.

Planning note: The Swansea admissions team confirms that most 2027/28 entry deadlines are still to be published. Indian applicants targeting September 2027 should monitor the deadlines page from October 2026 onwards, since Learner Gateway typically opens 10 to 11 months before the intake month.

Swansea University Eligibility for Indian Students

Swansea publishes separate academic and English-language floors for undergraduate and postgraduate entry. Indian qualifications map directly onto Swansea’s UK grade language: a Bachelor’s around 50 to 55 percent is treated as a 2:2 honours equivalent, and 60 to 65 percent as a 2:1 honours equivalent. Individual programmes can require higher thresholds, and these are listed on each course page.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 70 percent from CBSE, CISCE or a recognised State Board.
  • PG general entry (2:2): Bachelor’s from a recognised Indian university with roughly 50 to 55 percent or CGPA 5.5 to 6.0 out of 10.
  • PG upper tier (2:1): Bachelor’s with roughly 60 to 65 percent or CGPA 7.0+ out of 10 — required for Data Science, Business Analytics, some Engineering Master’s, and Law LLMs.
  • Work-experience route (no Bachelor’s): at least 3 years relevant full-time work if you hold A-levels equivalents; 5 years if your highest qualification is Class XII.

Swansea accepts a wide list of English tests. The institution-wide floors are:

Swansea IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Swansea publishes two India-specific routes to skip an IELTS test, both drawn from the Students from India page:

  • Class XII English score waiver: A minimum of 70 percent in English in your CBSE, CISCE or State Board Class XII certificate — taken within the last 10 years — is accepted in place of IELTS for most courses.
  • Medium of Instruction letter: A signed and stamped MOI letter from your Indian university confirming that your Bachelor’s was taught and examined in English is accepted where the degree finished within 10 years of your Swansea start date.
  • Pre-sessional English pathway: If you fall one band short of the course minimum, Swansea’s English Language Training Services runs pre-sessional courses that satisfy the English condition on completion.

Insider note: Applicants from Haryana or Punjab holding a Swansea offer for September 2025 entry and onwards must verify their academic transcripts through Swansea’s Qualification Check portal, at a fee of about £30 (₹3,879) plus institution surcharge. Factor this into your document timeline.

Swansea University PG Programs and English Scores

Swansea offers 280+ taught postgraduate programmes across engineering, computing, law, business, health and humanities. For Indian applicants, the highest-demand programmes are in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the School of Management. PG international base tuition for 2026/27 sits between £16,000 and £27,000 (₹20.69 to ₹34.91 Lakhs) per academic year across taught Master’s programmes — full course-wise fees are on the Swansea course-wise fees breakdown.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Swansea University page for your chosen programme before applying.

Swansea University UG Programs and Entry Requirements

Swansea’s undergraduate portfolio spans engineering, computer science, law, medicine, life sciences and humanities. Indian applicants can apply through UCAS (institution code SWAN S93) or directly through Learner Gateway. UCAS is used mainly for equal consideration with UK domestic applicants; direct application is free and appropriate for most international candidates.

ProgrammeDurationMinimum EligibilityEnglish Req. Min.
BSc Computer Science3 yearsClass XII 70%+ with Mathematics studied through Class XIIIELTS 6.0 (5.5 per band)
BEng Aerospace Engineering3 years (4 with Year in Industry)Class XII 75%+ with Mathematics and PhysicsIELTS 6.0 (5.5 per band)

BSc Psychology3 yearsClass XII 75%+ with strong Biology/SciencesIELTS 6.5 (6.0 per band)

Year in Industry (a paid work placement year) is a Swansea option on many BEng and BSc programmes: students take an extra year in industry between years two and three, and it adds one year to the standard duration. Direct entry into Year 2 is available for Indian applicants who have completed a related Bachelor’s programme in India, on a case-by-case basis.

Swansea University MBA Admissions

Swansea’s 1-year full-time MBA at the School of Management sits in the Bay Campus building and welcomes both fresh graduates and mid-career applicants. The programme uses the standard PG framework: no compulsory GMAT or GRE, work experience preferred but not mandatory for the general MBA track, and one September intake per year.

  • Academic entry: Bachelor’s with a 2:1 (60%+) or 2:2 (50%+) with 2+ years of full-time relevant work experience.
  • Work experience: Preferred but not required for the general MBA; strongly recommended for career switchers.
  • GMAT/GRE: Not required by default; can strengthen a borderline profile.
  • English: IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 per band, or equivalent per the waiver rules above.
  • Intake: September only; January is not offered for the MBA.

MBA base tuition is at the upper end of Swansea’s PG range at approximately £26,500 (₹34.27 Lakhs) for 2026/27 international students. Confirm any interview requirement directly on the programme page before applying, since MBA-specific stages are not published centrally.

Swansea PhD Admissions Route for Indian Applicants

Swansea offers PhD entry across all faculties, with quarterly start dates. Indian applicants typically enter through the January or October start points; the January 2027 PhD application deadline is 16 October 2026, three months ahead of the standard taught deadline. Research entry requires a stronger academic profile than taught Master’s admission.

  • Academic entry: A Master’s (Merit or Distinction preferred) or a Bachelor’s at 2:1 (60%+) with a strong research component.
  • Research proposal: A 2 to 3 page proposal aligned with a Swansea supervisor’s research interests.
  • Supervisor contact: Recommended before formal application; email a shortlisted supervisor with your CV and proposal.
  • English: IELTS 6.5 overall for most doctoral programmes; higher for medical and psychology research.
  • Decision timeline: 4 to 6 weeks from complete application submission.

PhD funding at Swansea comes through EPSRC, ESRC and Welsh Government studentships, alongside faculty-specific scholarships. See the funding options for Indian students for scholarship amounts, eligibility and application windows.

Swansea University Application Process

Applying to Swansea is straightforward once documents are ready. The steps below apply to direct international applications through the Learner Gateway portal — the standard route for Indian students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. UK-based UCAS remains an alternative for undergraduates.

  1. Choose your programme on swansea.ac.uk and confirm the course-specific entry requirements, including any 2:1 vs 2:2 floor.
  2. Create a Learner Gateway account on the Swansea application portalno application fee for direct international applications.
  3. Upload your documents — transcripts, Bachelor’s degree certificate, English test or waiver evidence, CV, personal statement and passport bio page.
  4. Submit and track the application using your unique Swansea reference number sent by email within 2 working days.
  5. Respond to your offer within the deadline and pay the £4,000 (₹5.17 Lakhs) tuition deposit to secure your place (higher for Haryana, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Telangana applicants).
  6. Get your CAS — the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies is issued after deposit clearance and used for the UK Student Visa application.

Swansea Admission Decisions and Timelines

Swansea publishes formal decision windows for each track. Missing an acceptance date can void an offer, and deposit deadlines are stricter than most Indian universities are used to.

  • Application acknowledgement: Within 2 working days by email.
  • Taught Master’s decision: Within 5 working days from the date Swansea acknowledges a complete application.
  • PhD decision: 4 to 6 weeks including supervisor review.
  • Offer acceptance: Response due within Swansea’s published deadline in the offer letter, typically 4 weeks.
  • Deferrals: Considered case-by-case for one cycle only, and must be requested before the CAS is issued.

Swansea Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Every Learner Gateway application asks for the same core document set, with a few India-specific additions. Preparing these before opening the portal keeps the application clean and speeds up the 5-working-day Master’s decision window.

  • Passport bio page — machine-readable, valid for the length of your intended stay.
  • Class X and Class XII marksheets and pass certificates — certified copies from the board.
  • Bachelor’s mark sheets, degree certificate and consolidated marksheet — required for PG applicants; provisional certificate accepted if final not yet issued.
  • English proficiency evidence — IELTS/TOEFL/PTE score report, or Class XII English scoresheet at 70%+ for the waiver, or an MOI letter on university letterhead.
  • CV or resume — one to two pages listing academic and any professional experience.
  • Personal statement — 500 to 750 words on course fit, career goal and Swansea-specific reasons.
  • Two academic references — one may be professional for MBA and executive-track applicants.
  • Financial proof — for CAS stage, showing tuition + 9 months of living costs from an eligible source.
  • Haryana or Punjab candidates — Qualification Check verification report at £30 (₹3,879).

Swansea University Acceptance Rate

Swansea does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Independent estimates place admits for international taught postgraduate applicants at 30 to 40 percent for competitive Master’s (Data Science, Business Analytics, LLMs, Clinical Psychology) and higher, around 50 to 55 percent, for less-oversubscribed programmes and undergraduate entry. These figures are based on typical UK mid-tier research university patterns and are indicative.

What Actually Drives a Swansea Decision

Programme-level supply matters more than the headline rate. Data-driven Master’s programmes hold an explicit 2:1 (60%+) floor and can close before the published deadline once seats fill. A 2:2 profile is competitive for Computer Science conversion, Cyber Security and general Engineering programmes.

Where Swansea Sits Against Peers

Swansea’s ranking band — QS World 322, UK 34; THE World 301-350; Complete University Guide UK 41 — puts it in the same competitive tier as Aberdeen, Kent and Leicester. Indian applicants comparing offers usually treat this tier as broadly interchangeable on rank, and pick based on programme fit, city cost of living and scholarship offer.

Insider note: Data Science, Business Analytics and Clinical Psychology are the three programmes where Indian applicants most often see delayed decisions at Swansea — usually because a 2:1 borderline profile is being reviewed against a full pipeline. If you are targeting one of these three, apply within the first 6 weeks of Learner Gateway opening.

UK Student Visa for Swansea Applicants

Indian students admitted to Swansea apply for the UK Student Visa (Route), formerly known as Tier 4. The visa is filed with UK Visas and Immigration through the online form and a biometric appointment at a VFS Global centre in India. Standard processing runs 3 to 6 weeks after the biometric appointment, and priority services can compress this to 5 working days.

Applicants need a valid CAS from Swansea, tuberculosis test certificate from an IOM-approved clinic, evidence of academic qualifications, English proof, and financial evidence covering tuition plus 9 months of living costs. For Swansea (outside London), UKVI recognises a maintenance requirement of £1,136 (₹1.47 Lakhs) per month, so applicants must show £10,224 (₹13.22 Lakhs) in maintenance funds for a 9-month course window. The visa fee is £524 (₹67,758), and the Immigration Health Surcharge is £776 (₹1.00 Lakh) per year of study, paid upfront in one lump sum. Once in the UK, students on courses of 6 months or longer register with the police if the visa vignette requires it and confirm attendance at Swansea’s international induction.

2026 update: The UK Graduate Route remains available, offering 2 years of post-study work in the UK (3 years for PhD graduates), and both undergraduate and postgraduate Swansea programmes qualify. Applications are filed from inside the UK before the Student Visa expires.

Swansea University Admissions Tips and Checklist

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Swansea, and target the two failure points that most often delay offers: incomplete document sets and late deposit payment.

  • Front-load the English waiver decision. If your Class XII English score is 70%+ within the last 10 years, upload that certificate on day one and skip IELTS entirely.
  • Request transcripts 8 weeks before deadline. Indian university offices take 4 to 6 weeks to issue consolidated marksheets; request in September for a January 2027 intake.
  • Draft a Swansea-specific personal statement. Name the programme, one Swansea faculty and one Bay Campus or Singleton Park facility that connects to your goal.
  • Get the CBSE or CISCE Class X mark sheet notarised early. Learner Gateway asks for both Class X and Class XII, and Class X often slips off Indian applicants’ radar.
  • Book the IELTS or PTE test 10 weeks before the application deadline. If you plan to test, book a slot early — score reports take 2 weeks to reach Swansea.
  • Line up deposit funds before you accept the offer. The £4,000 (₹5.17 Lakhs) minimum deposit is due within 4 weeks of offer acceptance, and CAS is not issued without it.
  • For Haryana or Punjab applicants: run the Qualification Check portal step (£30, ₹3,879) as soon as the conditional offer arrives.
  • Confirm the tuberculosis test slot 6 weeks in advance at an IOM-approved clinic in your city — non-IOM certificates are rejected by UKVI.

Swansea admissions rewards early, clean applications more than last-minute polish. The January 2027 intake window closes 23 November 2026, and September 2027 primary-cycle dates will publish from late 2026 onwards on the official deadlines page. Applicants who lock the English waiver, transcripts and CAS-ready financial paperwork inside a single 6-week burst typically clear the Master’s decision inside 10 working days.

Swansea University Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. When is the next Swansea University application deadline for Indian students?

Ans. The nearest live deadline is 23 November 2026 for the January 2027 intake, covering both undergraduate and taught postgraduate applications via Learner Gateway. PhD applicants for January 2027 must apply by 16 October 2026. September 2027 primary-cycle dates will publish separately by Swansea.

Ques. Does Swansea University charge an application fee?

Ans. No. Direct international applications through the Swansea Learner Gateway portal are free at both UG and PG level. Undergraduate applicants using the UCAS route pay the standard UCAS fee of £28.95 (₹3,744) for 2026 entry.

Ques. Can Indian students skip IELTS for Swansea?

Ans. Yes. Swansea accepts CBSE, CISCE and State Board Class XII English at 70 percent or higher within the last 10 years in place of IELTS for most programmes. A Medium of Instruction letter from your Indian Bachelor’s institution is also accepted where the degree finished within 10 years.

Ques. What Bachelor’s percentage does Swansea accept for Master’s programmes?

Ans. The floor is roughly 50 to 55 percent for a 2:2 honours equivalent, which covers most taught Master’s. Programmes such as Data Science, Business Analytics, LLMs and Clinical Psychology require a 2:1 equivalent at 60 to 65 percent or CGPA 7.0+ out of 10.

Ques. How fast does Swansea send offer letters?

Ans. Swansea targets a decision within 5 working days of acknowledging a complete taught Master’s application, and 4 to 6 weeks for PhD applications. Incomplete applications reset the clock, so upload every document before submitting.

Ques. What deposit does Swansea require to secure my place?

Ans. The standard minimum is £4,000 (₹5.17 Lakhs) for most international students, refundable only on visa refusal or entry-requirement failure. Applicants from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Telangana pay £8,000 (₹10.34 Lakhs), and those from Haryana and Punjab pay the full first-year tuition upfront.

Ques. Do I need to verify my qualifications through the Qualification Check portal?

Ans. Only applicants from Haryana or Punjab starting from September 2025 onwards are required to verify their academic transcripts through Swansea’s Qualification Check portal. The fee is around £30 (₹3,879) plus institution surcharge.

Ques. Can I apply to Swansea without a Bachelor’s degree?

Ans. Yes, on the work-experience route. Applicants with at least 3 years of relevant full-time work (with A-level equivalents) or 5 years (with Class XII only) may be considered for taught Master’s programmes on a case-by-case basis. Document your experience with employer letters.

Ques. What is Swansea University’s acceptance rate for international students?

Ans. Swansea does not publish an official acceptance rate. Independent estimates put international admits at around 30 to 40 percent for competitive Master’s such as Data Science and Business Analytics, and closer to 50 to 55 percent for less-oversubscribed programmes and undergraduate entry.

Ques. Is there a January intake at Swansea University?

Ans. Yes. Swansea runs a smaller January intake alongside its primary September cycle, mostly for popular Master’s such as Computer Science, Business Analytics and LLMs. The January 2027 application deadline is 23 November 2026 for UG and taught PG, with 16 October 2026 for PhD entry.

Ques. Can I defer a Swansea offer to the next intake?

Ans. Deferrals are considered case-by-case for one cycle only and must be requested before the CAS is issued. Once CAS is generated, deferral is generally not permitted, and applicants must re-apply for the next intake. Contact your admissions officer as soon as you know you need a deferral.

Ques. Which route should Indian undergraduates use — UCAS or direct application?

Ans. For most Indian undergraduate applicants, direct application through Learner Gateway is faster and free. UCAS is preferred if you are applying to multiple UK universities simultaneously or want equal-consideration timing alongside UK domestic students. The UCAS 2027 cycle fee for a single choice is £28.95 (₹3,744).

Scholarship

  • Yes i received a bursary scholarship, it is for international students from eligible countries. the award amount was 3000 pounds.
  • Yes, many people receive it, you just have to inquire about it. i sent them an email asking about any scholarships that I was eligible for and they responded with that. but have a look at the university website, many scholarships and their criteria are mentioned there.

Scholarship

  • During admission as per the SOP submitted by the student, college itself provide bursaries of some amount. if the SOP is well enough then student can expect from 2000-3000 pounds bursaries deducted from the tution fees. However, You always have the option to ask the university if they have any kind of scholarships. Also, there is chevening scholarship which can be availed, details of which have to be researched by the student as I witnessed some of the international student had that.

Overview

  • The first thing is Bristol and Glasgow were more expensive for me, and except for Swansea, no other university offered me a scholarship.
  • And the second thing is a collaboration with aerospace companies. One friend of mine was studying there, and he got to work with Mercedes Benz, so I decided to go with Swansea, and it is way more beautiful.

Scholarship

  • I did receive 4000 GBP in scholarship; for that, you have to submit an essay for the justification. Just that and they will figure out from your transcripts and resume that you submitted earlier. And yes, 10 other students received the same amount of scholarship. I have no clear idea how many students are getting it each year but the amount is the same: 3000-4000 GBP.

Scholarship

  • Swansea University offers many scholarships and financial aid based on need, experience, skills to support students from diverse backgrounds. Some of the notable scholarships include: Chevening Scholarship, this prestigious scholarship provides full financial support to outstanding students who have demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to making a positive impact in their home country. But there is one backdrop of this scholarship that you can’t go for a Post study work visa or sponsorship visa under this.
  • The university is also offering scholarships specifically for students with significant professional experience in their chosen field of study. These scholarships aim to attract students who can bring practical insights to their academic field.
  • University also has bursaries that vary depending on the student’s country of residence. These bursaries are designed to make education more accessible to international students, and the amounts can differ based on factors specific to each country.
  • For students who demonstrate a strong passion for entrepreneurship, Swansea University offers scholarships and grants that can help fund their education. And universities can even provide financial support or investment in business ideas for students who show promise as innovative entrepreneurs.
  • Hardship funding is also an option for students facing financial difficulties or are unable to cover their living expenses/ cost due to unforeseen circumstances or other commitments.

Scholarship

  • I received a £3000 scholarship from Swansea University, which was available to Asian students as part of their support for international students. This scholarship was not specific to individual merit but was awarded to all eligible Asian students, including my friends, helping us offset tuition costs as part of our studies. Somewere around 5000 students received this.

Overview

I opted for Maritime Law at Swansea University since its faculties are pioneers in contributing to the literature in maritime law. It was always my first choice thus, my decision was a no-brainer. My experience at this Uni has been enriching. For career opportunities, one has to look at themselves. Overview

I chose this university as this has a higher ranking in the healthcare sector, admission process is also flexible and can apply 3-4 months prior to the course starting as well. I missed the September intake deadline which was in April/May due to my passport issues and this was the best option I had for the January intake.

Overview

The university course -BSc Applied Medical Sciences is a fantastic pathway for those looking to go into medical research, enterprise, or study Medicine afterwards. The location is really relaxing with the beach near the university campus and the lecturers and support network is really welcoming and encouraging. I chose Swansea particularly due to the 2nd year Pathways that they provide to study Graduate Entry Medicine.
