What Students Say
Likes
- The thing that i liked the most is the exposure here. Since Hansraj is located in the north campus so you meet the best minds not only from your college but from various other colleges as well, which provides great exposure and opens possibilities.
- The faculty here is very good. They are masters of their profession and very understanding at the same time. They are always ready to help you not just in academics, but beyond it as well.
- Hansraj has the most number of socities in the DU circuit. You get to interact with a lot of like minded people and ultimately work on something fruitful. You name it and there is a society for that. It really helps you to build your personality.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure is not that good, however it is improving. A new auditorium with a new building is being constructed. Additionally the boys hostel is being constructed as well. So they are working on improving the infrastructure.
- The politics culture, not just in Hansraj but in entire DU is irritating. People barge in between the classes to promote themselves and dissappear after they win, however you can always seclude yourself from that. There's no compulsion to take part.
- Hansraj administration is slightly on the tougher side. The fests and other events usually end before evening, but you can always visit the fests of surrounding colleges which are pretty good, again a perk of being in north campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is pretty much relevant today. You get to study papers like biochemistry, immunology in zoology, bioinformatics and bio statistics, industrial microbiology in botany and radioactive chemistry, organic chemistry in chemistry which are very much relevant with the advancements in science today. There are practical classes conducted for each paper to give you hands on knowledge of the subject. What influenced me to take up this course was its diversity. You get to study botany, zoology and chemistry in one course, opening possibilities and opportunities for you in all the three carrer fields. The exams for each paper are conducted in a semester wise manner, with internal assessment exams conducted by the respective teachers. The exams are quite easy to crack provided you've understood the concepts nicely and have studied well.
Internships Opportunities
The internship cell of Hansraj college is active too. You get notified for various internships that you are eligible for via a whatsapp group created by the internship cell. The roles offered are generally of Founders office intern, business development intern, academic councellor intern, campus embassador, graphic designer, social media marketing intern, content development intern, HR intern, product development intern and etc. There are other roles as well, suitable for students from all courses. The stipend of the internships bary from 5000 to 20000 depenind upon the company and the role they are offering. Many companies also offer a ppo offer following the internship based on your performance. For some companies, you need to be either in the 3rd year or a graduate to be eligible for the internship. Apart from this, you should maintain an active linkedin profile so as to avail good internship opportunities beyond the campus as well.
Placement Experience
The placement cell of Hansraj College is quite active. You are eligible to sit for campus placement offers from 5th semester onwards. Companies like Deloitte, capgemini arw frequent recruiters for several posts and positions. The highest offered package is somewhere around 22000 with the average being at 700000-800000. Not all students get placed on campus, however thr hands on training and learning makes you industry ready, making you eligible amd worthy to apply for off campus placement opportunities. Many students prefer not to sit for campus placements and rather opt for higher studies after graduation. I plan to do the same after getting my undergraduate degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The exact fee that I paid in my second year is 31790 rupees, which got increased from 29000 from that of first year. The tution fees is nominal and the extra charges include that of the infrastructure and lab facilities provided to the science students. Other expenses include fest and freshers amount, student development fee and etc. The fees is same for everyone irrespective of the category they belong to. There is an annual scholarship provided to selected students based on an interview. The scholarship amount varies from 2000 to full fee wavier. Other than that various other scholarship opportunities are available as well, about which you are notified from time to time via the college website and other groups.
Campus Life
The overall campus life is pretty good. The annual fest "Confluence" is in true sense a Confluence of people and students from all walks of life. You get to interact with like minded people from various colleges of the DU circuit through various competitions. The socities of Hansraj College are very much active too. There are more than 60 socities catering to the interest of each student. You can take part in them and bloom your personality. Talking about the library, it is indeed a treasure. The library in itself is two storeyed with all sorts of books. The library facility is made available to students beyond the college hours. Each class is air conditioned and well equipped with projectors for a better teaching. Wifi facilities have also been made available recently. The college ground is open to students after 12 noon, where you play any sport you like. If you are a professional, you can also be a part of the college sports team. All the societies running in the college are student led only with minimum faculty or administration involvement. You really get to explore and learn by being a part of them.
Admission
7The college that I'm currently studying in is the best for my course. It had always been on my top preference. The NIRF Ranking of Hansraj college is 3, which the other two colleges not offering my course. So Hansraj had always been my first preference. I had applied in other colleges as well which had a lower preference, however i got my first preference in the first round of counselling so i did not really get a rejection from other colleges. The reason is kept Hansraj on my first preference was it's NIRF ranking over the years compared to the other colleges offering the same course. The admission process is quite simple. First of all, you have to write the CUET exam, following which apply in DU via the CSAS portal. After that the university allots you a college based on your course and college preference that you have to submit. So it is very important that you make the preference list wisely in order to get a good college in addition to scoring good in the CUET exam. The cut off for certain courses like economics, bcom and physics are quite high but for other courses they are pretty much achievable.
Faculty
The faculty at Hansraj is pretty good. The student teacher ratio is apt. You can approach them beyond the academic hours, and they would be ready to help. The concept of assigning each student with a mentor, who keeps a routine check on you and pays personalized attention to you is very good. The internal assessment marks that the teachers have to give, they do not do partiality and give marks to you based on your performance. Its hard to mention a favourite faculty because I've not had a bad experience with any faculty member till now. The assessment is bases on the semester system in DU. That means two exams a year, which is pretty much manageable. The exams are easy to crack with maximum portion coming from what the teachers have already taught in the class. Apart from that each teacher also conducts internal assessment for their papers, which is again very easy to score in. The course curriculum is fairly relevant compared to the modern advancements. Papers like biostatistics and bio informatics, biochemistry and industrial microbiology make you future ready.
Night Life
The night life at the North Campus is undoubtedly the best. The campus being adjace to the kamla nagar market is overloaded with cafes and various other spots to casually hang out. The hostel and pgs generally have an in timing of 10 pm, but they're not very rigid too. Its alwats better to inform them and then go. The other hangout places include the Kamla Nehru Ridge, the VC Lawn. The Hudson lane which is also very close is crowder with cafes and thus attracts a lot of students. The metro connectivity is quite good too, making the students possible to visit other parts of the city. Talking about the safety at night, police patrolling can be seen at night and you can also see students walking on the roads at any time you roam in the north campus.
Other Applied Colleges
Ramjas College | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Life Sciences)
I got a admitted to Hansraj College which was on a higher preference than Ramjas and is better than Ramjas both academically and infrastructure wise as well. So this is why i did not opt for Ramjas College.
