Course Curriculum Overview

5

I chose Geography Honours because it provides a very good scope considering the teaching career. The vacancies for lecturers of geography are higher compared to many other courses, which was very assuring and encouraging for me. The curriculum also prepares us for field-based and research-oriented job opportunities. The students are taught various practical skills and methods which will prove to be very helpful in the future work areas. We go through very tough examinations with a higher difficulty level that are prepared with the purpose of making us capable of being the best in our subject area.

Internships Opportunities

3

As i am in first year, so i don't have too much knowledge in the internship field but as per what i have heard from my seniors, Miranda house has a E-placement cell that is very active in providing the students with a number of internships opportunities.

Fees and Financial Aid

During the beginning of admission procedure,i.e, in July 2025 i was asked to pay INR18,580 for my first year, which included my college fee of rs6363 and student fund fee of rs12217. The fees of Pwd students is INR 96. The SC and ST students are exempted from paying for he tution fee. The college itself does nkt not provide any scholarship, however students can avail scholarships from other organisations that provide such opportunities for economically weaker sections and the ones with extraordinary meritorious achievements.

Campus Life

5

The campus life at Miranda house is very fun and happening. Fests and carnivals are organised frequently to keep the students engaged and entertained. Our annual fest named "Tempest" is usually held in February and is one of the coolest highlight of the year. Our library is well equipped and a wide range of books of all subjects are available to us. We are also provided a digital library that helps us search and get access to almost all the required resources and books. Our classrooms are well equipped and organised with a good lighting system in all rooms, most of the rooms are also air conditioned. A wide variety of sports and extra curriculurs are provided within the campus, we have a gym area, a basketball court, a badminton ground , a chess club and many more. A number of clubs and societies like TedX, DebSoc(debating), Ariels (drama), Suvakta(MUN), etc are very active and engaging. Being a member of these societies provide the students an opportunity to engage and interact with students of different courses and build better connections.

Admission

Miranda house is considered the best one in Delhi university for Geography Honours. My preferences were Miranda house followed by Kirori Mal college and and IPCW in north campus. I was alotted Miranda house in the first round of allocation itself. Its a genuine privilege to be attending my course At Miranda , and i am assured that after 3 years of learning I would be much better at my subject of study. The admission process is the same for Miranda house as the other colleges in DU, students give CUET (common university admission test) conducted by NTA every year and then the colleges are allocated on the basis of our CUET score and preference list.

Faculty

4

The faculty of geography department is very hardworking and dedicated towards their tasks. Classes are held regularly with very rare chances of a faculty member taking leave. The teachers are not too friendly but they are pretty approachable and students can talk to them about their problems and issues easily. There are teachers like Mr Praffulit Bisht, Mrs Ruchi Sachan and Mr Om Jee Ranjan who have been nothing but supportive and helpful in guiding us through our course. Our department of geography conducts mid semester exams in the middle of each semester, plus mock exams for the practical subject, and then there are the final semester exams conducted by the Delhi University. In my knowledge,it is very rare for a student to fail the exams. The course curriculum is very relevant for the modern scope and opportunities in the geographic fields, we are learning to work hard and get to experience practical tasks that will help us in the future.

Night Life

4

Inside the college, students like to hangout in the Nescafe lawns , the canteen area, the TANZ shed and the area near basketball court. Outside the college, we have many hangout spots and food-spots, some are TOM UNCLE MAGGI, Sudama chai, the shops in the Patel chest area, and we can also go to kamla nagar, which is nearby and has almost all good food outlets like MCD, burger king, stabucks, dolma aunty momos, kake di hatti, bikaner and many many more. The hostel students have no curfew for the night and get to experience a very fun night life.

Course Curriculum Overview:

• The structure of the course was from basic to advanced. The structure made sure that all the basics are cleared specially for those who did not have psychology as a subject in class 12. • The course is well-tuned with the practical aspects that makes us better equipped for tackling real world problems. • Inclusion of field trips every semester should be implemented for better insight about the materials in the course. • Midterms are held in between our semester that is of moderate level that consists of 1 or 2 units, usually for 30 marks. The end semester exams are held at the end of the semester for around 90 marks which has higher level of difficulty.

Course Curriculum Overview:

When I was choosing this course in preference list I found it interesting to study the society, it's main aspect and concepts included in it . I read about Marx , max etc and found some interest in it . The curriculum does tell concept relevant information society but I feel like there is a lot of need to research in Indian societal concept and their work and interaction. Teaching method can be interesting, interactive rather than being boring concept reading in class

Placement Experience:

I feel every student needs to work hard on themselves first and equip themselves with skills which could land them a good placement. There are companies which are partnering with the college and admit interns and applicants by the end of the year. I personally have not applied for the internships or the placements but I intend to in the future.
