What Students Say
Likes
- Most likeable thing would be the competition i felt around me.
- The campus is scenically really beautiful.
- You get ample holidays like the semesters are for around 4 months so you get 4 months break in a year( 2-3 during winter breaks and 1 around summers/ after end sem)
Dislikes
- Academically you had to do almost everything on your own , you will rarely like 1/10 times find a teacher who you like.
- The teaching methods were not anything you would find likeable.
- Placements are a joke, they inflate the numbers so much that one feels shocked. Good companies rarely visit and even if they do the pay is not what one would like to work for so you will have to work yourself to grab some opportunities outside.
Course Curriculum Overview
I found the curriculum to be outdated and not very useful as per the current evolving times. Most topics were covered superficially like the professor came and used to read the ppt only no explaining no nothing. I feel the course didnt reallly prepeare me for real world applications. Teaching methods were basic and rarely made the material engaing or tried even 1 percent to explain. Exams were mostly on time and the difficulty was moderate. Overall the curiculum needs major updates and better structure to feel woth the time and effort.
Placement Experience
Placemets start right from your 7th semester. Most comapnies that would come here would be like vedanta , ashok leyland etc etc who mainly do mass hiring, th no of offers are quite low as for durig my time most companies qul do diversity and hiring would only select girls and the girls were low in numbers as compared to the boys so each girl recieved atleast 2-3 offers while rarely a boy would even rev=cieve a single offer. The highest package was offered by Vedanta but it was 13 lpa in ct in hand it would be arond 5-6 lpa , the average package was also the same around 5-6 lakhs per annum. Percentage of students placed would be around 30 percent but they inflated the numbers heavily but showing only the students who were eleigible as boys were mostle ineligible. My plans are to look for masters somewhere abroad.
Fees and Financial Aid
The per semester fees to be paid was 67 thousand which was later revised close to around 90 thousand for newer batches. Everythingh was included in this amount like library fees , tution, caution(7-8 thousand in total paid during first year). For students availing any reservation benifits the fee per semester was significantly low like for SC/ST students it was around 6-8 thousand per semester. Scholarships as such cant be availed for general category students , however if you come through some reservation a one time scholarship was given of around 80 thousand rupees.
Campus Life
There were mainly two fests per year one is named Teachvaganza and the other is Rang-e-Chinaar one is held in around June/July and the other in October/november respectfully. The range of books was fine but the quantity was really less like mostof the books you would need were out of stock everytime. The classrooms were good like smartboards present and the infrastructure was also good with proper heating and ventillation arrangements. From the sports aspect dont expect much from the college side, you have football field a cricket fiel and everything but raraely any sporting event. You will find a lot of clubs, groups and really a few of them were actaully any good.
Admission
I had only applied for VIT, butonce i cleared JEE Mains and got a seat in a college within my own city, i choose it mainly for the name tag and convenience. I had also applied in other government and local engineering colleges around my city and i was rejected from none of the but this was far more superior than them in every aspect. Looking back i would say i missed out on the kind of exposure i would have got staying outside home and getting the hostel experience. I also think the curriculum in colleges like VIT would have been a bit more updated and industry focused alos there might have been better placement oppurtunities. As for the admission process here, it was straightfoward, my JEE Mains score made the cutoff and i applied josaa and csab and got the admission, the documentation was simple and quick.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio would be around 1 : 100 easily. Faculty to student relations were never that great , mostly the faculty members are quite old and nearing retirement so you will feel the gap of understanding. I mainly liked Dr. Azhar Jameel sir , he was the best teacher in evry aspect youwould ask for , his teaching style was excellent, a very approachable and kind soul, and he would not hesitate to help a student any time. i disliked almost every other faculy member but if i had to name i would say Dr Manoj because he had a very mean demeanure and he would delibrately fail students ( except during the final years , i must give it to him he passed most of the students who wouldnt on their own) and secondly Dr Nazir Khan as he would never take any class and the paper set was really difficult for one. There are mainly onmy mid sems and end sem exams and maybe sometimes some teacher might take some quix for assesment marks. I would say around 70 percent would manage to clear the exams. AS far as relevancy is concerned i would say not upto the latest standards but it is the same everywhere.
Night Life
There was nothing like Nightlife everythingh around the campus is closed after 9 pm , girls arent allowed to leave the campus after 6 or 7 pm and boys til 9 or 10 pm, inside the campus you will rarely find any student roaming around the campus after 10 pm. There was a decent gym and fees was reasonabe , cafes were pretty basic and library was also fine. Hostel is pretty chill if you mantain good repo. The famous hangout spots would be the chinar tree bench, gashas canteen and outside it would be harwan and amigos. The locality is very safe for everyone.
Other Applied Colleges
Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT University] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
I DID NOT OPT FOR THIS COURSE MAINLY BECAUSE I THOUGHT NIT CARRIES MUCH MORE WEIGHT IN TERMS OF ACADEMIC PARAMETERS.
