What Students Say
Likes
- Nature and scenic beauty is too good the peaceful environment it gives you is really soothing especially if you like this type of atmosphere around you then this place is definitely for you plus you can explore the tourist places around here
- The academic environment is also pretty decent, teachers do focus on teaching ( although as with other college , the quality is somewhat questionable ) but still it is a nice place for your overall academic growth
- The placements for CS / IT are pretty decent so this atleast gives you some level of security for your future combining this with the aspect of nature seemed as a deadly combination to me at my rank ...
Dislikes
- There are a few good faculties but most are not...
- The campus size is somewhat small and so that could be a negative factor for someone
- The fest are not that big , they are decent enough for you to explore yourself but just not what you may expect
Course Curriculum Overview
The first year curriculum includes subjects from all the faculties from mechanical to chemistry and therefore it's hard to comment on the relevancy of the curriculum infact it personally seemed redundant to me that computer science students are being taught these subjects... I think that from the start the stress should be laid on building core foundation for programming like combining computer fundamentals course with mathematics and some subjects from humanities but the current curriculum for my first year course seems extremely irrelevant to me The timing of exams is Ok like you do have enough time to prepare for them but considering the fact that sometimes some unexpected situations arise due to some miscellaneous factors which may hinder the ideal schedule which was to be followed
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities include working with other IITs under research programmes as for gaining industry level experience I guess you'll have to do that on your own with the support from seniors / alumni and your own hardwork
Placement Experience
I think the students become eligible for placements after 6 th semester, if you are from CS / IT then you'll get enough opportunities for yourself... I know 8-9 seniors who have grabbed a pretty decent package from companies like Oracle If somehow you fail to get recruited on campus then i guess the off campus option is open for all I am pretty satisfied with the placement record atleast for IT The percentage placement for this year CSE was 51 considering recession part this seems good to me
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is around 7.5 -8 lacs for general category students You can avail Fee waivers based on your income certificate which you'll have to get issued from the tehsildar There are other scholarships too for which you can apply like NSP and some private scholarships like reliance , airtel , shraman etc.
Campus Life
The campus life is decent , clubs are ok although I don't think that they are that active , regular festive celebrations do take place ... The sports facilities and infrastructure seems good to me , there are multiple badminton, basketball courts 1 cricket ground 1 football ground The coding community seems pretty active and enthusiastic to me The classrooms do have smart boards and projector facilities... The labs are fine too
Hostel Facilities
There are 5 students per room this might seem too congesting but it's not that bad as it may sound The hostel and mess fees are 8 k and 21 k is respectively Do not expect much from the mess food non veg is served on Alternate days The hygiene I would say is quite good all the bathrooms and toilets get cleaned twice There is WiFi but it doesn't work that good but considering 5 g unlimited that will give you enough speed for your internet consumption
Admission
So i had already made my mind that I was going to join NIT Srinagar so my top preference during my josaa counselling included CS , IT nit Sri then nit Agartala cse then mnit Jaipur / mechanical civil ( in case I don't get CS / IT in initial rounds hence I should labd safely in my home state college ) the avg score for other state students to get CS / IT is around 98-98.5 % Ile my own rank was 22k and i got nit Sri in CSAB round 1
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is 1:85 I'd say are all friendly and easily approachable If I have to name one teacher then i would like to name Jaya Shrivastava ma'am who teaches us english... She is extremely good , always nice and humble There are two exams mid sems ( 26 marks ) and end sems ( 50 marks ) , 24 internal The difficulty level is easy to avg, if you start preparing 7-10 days before you'll easily be able to ace them
Night Life
The night life is not too amazing there are restrictions considering the security issues around here , you are not allowed to exit the campus after 6:30 and hostel after 10:30-11:00... The canteen is Okayish There's a gym but getting the membership is pretty difficult and even if you do manage to get it then there'll be too much rush , you can ofcourse join the gyms outside If we talk about famous places then you can always visit the hazratbal shrine nearby , nishat garden , Shankaracharya temple etc
Other Applied Colleges
