Course Curriculum Overview

4

As a commerce student , I wanted to pursue my career in a similar field so I chose Retail Management & IT . I like the core subjects so far ; practical and real-world application. The curriculum covers areas like management, marketing , customer psychology and other related fields . However there is a room for improvement where live projects and some informative sessions can make the course more fulfilling.

Placement Experience

4

Students are eligible for campus placements from 4th or 5th semester. Deloitte , Bain & company, PWC ,EY, Grant Thornton (for consulting services) offer the highest package to roles like analyst and accountant. Other companies such as ICICI Bank, Kotak securities , Inshorts , Urban company,HUL, Wipro,ITC hotels , Appollo Hospital etc. the highest package recorded in 2024 was 23.05 LPA and average package as 6 LPA . 85-90% of the eligible students get the placement, the data might vary as some students opt for 4th year for their research work. My plans after getting the degree lie in marketing or consulting field.

Fees and Financial Aid

I belong to the EWS category and paid Rs.31020 as my first year college fees . There's no difference in fee structure for any category in my department . There was reduction in the 2nd year fees i.e Rs.26675 in which tution fee - 180, liabrary fees - 800 , development fees- 7200 and other major fees are included. All the batchmates have to pay the same amount of fee irrespective of their category other than students belonging to EWS , as they can avail fee concession of upto half of their fee amount of complete amount after applying for financial need. Only the students who haven't got ER in their semester results can apply for scholarships .

Campus Life

5

JMC hosts various events with its annual cultural fest happening in the month of February i.e MONTAGE. Other events are conducted by seprate departments for example CHRONICLE by history department, MATHARENA by maths department, CARPE DIEM by sociology department, ACADEMIC DAY by the department of BVOC RMIT and Inter department mental christmas carol singing competition in the late November i.e WINTER CHIMES. These events usually happen from the month of October to March excluding December and Mid January because of semester exams. The libraries are well equiped with books and Jorunals of different department. JMC has 3 libraries with air conditioners and sufficient seats. The only drawback is no AC in the classrooms , however the classrooms are well ventilated. The audiorium of JMC known as the Thevenet Hall is large enough for all kinds of events . JMC also offers space for different sports such as cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennies, hockey, judo, taekwondo, boxing etc. The department of physical education is responsible for the sports training and they also offer subjects such as FIT INDIA, Sports for Life and Indigenous Sports to other students as well . The sports students of JMC play on district and state level competitions and have secured top positions. Societies and Clubs of JMC are very active and have a legacy of winning in inter College cultural competitions . ECHO - the western music soc , KAHKASHA -The hindi dramatics society , NRITYANJALI - the Indian dancing society are some of the most popular cultural student run societies in JMC. Other societies like E-Cell , ENACTUS, MERCATUS , 180 DC, TEDX JMC, DEBATING SOC etc offer the members live projects, event management, marketing, consulting projects and upskillinh opportunities. The live projects offered by these societies help the students hain real world exposure and adds to their experience in resume.

Admission

I appeared for the Common University Entrance Test(CUET) with accounts, business studies, economics and English . I scored 603/800 . In order to get a DU college I made a preference sheet of 160 college+subject combinations, where I put JMC+BVOC RMIT on 2nd no. Initially I was allocated a seat in Dyal Singh College in BA programme (commerce + economics) through my EWS quota (7th on preference list) , however I was not fully satisfied with this allocation due to 2 reasons ; the crowd and infrastructure. So I chose to upgrade my application and luckily got JMC with my prefered course through unreserved category (General , since JMC offers reservation to only Christian students ). The reason why I chose JMC over Dyal Singh was completely personal . Since I have studied in an all girls school it was easier to blend in a similar environment . The college has lived upto my expectations and I am very happy of my decision. The admission experience was smooth , the admin office and the coordinators of JMC are polite and help us with our queries patiently.

Faculty

For the department of Bvoc Retail Management, there are 3 core soecific subjects in each semester divided between 3 teachers ; Dr. Shalu ma'am , Satyam sir and Amarjeet sir. I find the faculty very approachable and cooperative . They provide detailed notes with interactive lectures. The faculty goes beyond of what's there in curriculum and help the students navigate their career options and internship opportunities. They uplift and promote the small start-ups of students in our class.

Night Life

4

JMC closes sharp at 5:30 pm , there are no hostel facilities porvided by JMC , hence no nightlife. JMC is located in Chanakyapuri. In my opinion the locality is pretty safe . The metro to college distance is walkable (1km approx ) , auto fares are also reasonable. JMC and MAITREYI college are just one lane apart so it creates a safe space for the students.

I choose the curriculum on the basis of its heay emphasis on the software development part. It is not really reflects itself in the real-world application, I had to pursue other option to grow my skills. It needs to make it better in the project and application department. They need to work on some real life projects. Frequency of the exams: On the semester basis Nascom exams: Yearly basis Difficulty: Easy
