Course Curriculum Overview

4

exams are considered moderate to challenging designed to test analytical and case law application skills rather than rote learning and failure rates are very low mostly due to attendance shortages or non submission of assignments rather than exam failure there is strong emphasis on practical exposure internship, legal aid camps, court visits, drafting exercise and research publications

Placement Experience

2

let me clear this out the placements are not great as it looks but they are trying to place students and expanding the placements cell that students would get the opportunity and only a small number of companies visits campus and many students mostly obtain internship/ placements outside of the campus process the placement cell is still maturing

Fees and Financial Aid

i'm in the course B.A LL.B( hons.) first year so i paid 2,17,500 for 1st semester and only in 1st year you also have to pay for 2nd semester only the tution fee that is 81,000 so total is like 2,98,500 and the total should be like around 11 lacs excluding mess fee they charge 26,000 per semester and the fee is same for every category and there is scholarship on merit based if you scored great marks in your end sem and also they also provide external scholarships links through email which students can apply

Campus Life

5

HPNLU has a number of active student led clubs and committees eg: rotaract club of HPNLU, committee clubs literacy clubs, moot court, ADR, legal aid,cl criminal and forensic etc and also every year DRONA is held. a sports fest and talking about the location it is peaceful, calm and offers a good study atmosphere and infrastructure wise the academic blocks, wifi connectivity and smart classrooms are highlighted also they provide digital resources library has a good digital database access( manupatra, SSC) etc.

Hostel Facilities

4

there are seperate hostels for boys and girls and the rooms include beds/ bed box, study table, study chair and almirah with good ventilation and attached balcony which is attached with 2 rooms hostels have high speed wifi connectivity and the attendant here and guards here are so fun and friendly there is a central mess but the food here is not good

Admission

i chose himachal pradesh national law university(HPNLU, SHIMLA) because it combines the academic rigour of the national law university system with serene and focused environment of the himalayas- a combination few institutions can offer being also the scenic and calm location in shimla a peaceful academic atmosphere the curriculum is modern and interdisciplinary, integrating law with social science HPNLU is also in a phase of expansion with research centres, digital resources and collaboration being established

Faculty

5

HPNLU has around 25-30 full time faculty members across law and allied disciplines and additional guest and visiting faculty and the faculty to student ratio is typically 1:15 to 1:20 most core faculty members hold LL.M. and Ph.D. degrees the faculty is approachable and supportive . there are also visiting professors like senior advocates, judges, scholars frequently conduct workshops and adding practical exposure so that academic structure here is pretty good the duration is 5 years and 10 semester the law core subjects here are: constitutional law, jurisprudence law, law of contracts, torts, property law, company law, criminal law, CPC, IPC, evidence, family law and allied papers are: pol sci, sociology, economics, economics, english, management( for bba) skill and clinical courses: legal writing, drafting, moot court, ADR, legal aid clinic, internship, research project etc. examination system here is like: first we have mid sem(30-40%) it includes class tests and quizzes and assignments and project submissions and attendance marks( up to 5%) and end sem consist of(60-70%) 3 hour written exam at semester end also marks are converted into grades and following a 10-point CGPA system minimum passing marks are D(40-45%) depending on course type and attendance of at least 70% is mandatory to sit on end sem exam

Night Life

2

students usually tend to wind down around in the campus cafeteria and the campus also has a few gyms built in hostels and trust me there is no nightlife in ghandal and where my university is think there is a little nightlife in shimla but you should be careful it gets very dark at night and considering the weather it's very cold and the campus is isolated away from bustle area also mall road is around half hour away from our university and you can also visit cafés and museums and trekking spots

Placement Experience:

College does provide placement however not up to the mark. The placement cell is working hard to provide the best for its students, rest the NLU tag really matters and fetches students work if not from the campus but independently as well. I personally have no plans to go for a placement and so do several others at HPNLU they are focused on judiciary or other government exams.

There so many companies visited in the campus placement such as Yash Appliances, Scorpions ltd., and other tech or pharmaceutical companies. My mentor tell me about one girl who had offered highest package in the campus placement she is from the Management department b.com course. Its around 37 lakh per annum. 60% of students out of 100% to get placement in campus. My plan after degree is to serve a firm as a corporate lawyer or if no than i open Advisory office.

Students usually become eligible for placements in the second semester of their final year. I am currently unaware of the companies that have visited Himachal Pradesh National Law University. U am also unaware of the current packages offered to students but to my knowledge, students with a CGPA higher than 7.5 are preferred by the company. Placement percentage is low. My plan after the degree include being employed at law firm, preferably in Shimla itseld
