Course Curriculum Overview

3

The university provides the UG students with the choice of streams consisting of BA.LL.B, B.B.A.LL.B of 5 years and for PG students: Ph.D and LL.M. B.A.LL.B (Hon.s) is an integrated course of Bachelors of Arts and Law. It is a comprehensive and an edge-providing approach if one wishes to register themselves in examinations like judiciary and public services as the subjects and their core matter are similar to what one shall prepare during their study hours for the same such as Political Science, Sociology, History, Psychology etc. The political science classes are a unique aspect of HPNLU as these shall have you at the edge of your seat throughout, while bombarding you with information from various perspectives. You shall learn and have a lot of fun in his class, both in academics as well as life. The curriculum sits fine as it is for first years, however extra-curricular activities during the lectures should be encouraged and workshops or additional classes for guidance shall be taken to soothe the brainstorming and unsettles minds of the first years, however this applies to all colleges. The examination is mostly conducted on alternative dates therefore students easily prepare accordingly, the difficulty level except for a few subjects is on the easier side.

Internships Opportunities

1

Various firms and chambers have approached the campus since we've had Tier-1 and Tier-3 placements successfully achieved. However it is still at a developing pace as most placements are acquired by the students off of their own connections and hard-work with no helping hand of the university.

Fees and Financial Aid

The batch of 2023, without any financial aid and scholarship had paid approx. Rs. 2,82,000 for their first year which included everything from academic, extra-curricular activities to residency and food. Fee payment is required to be made in separate receipts under Academic fee, Hostel fee and Messfee. The academic fee consists of : Tuition, Campus Development, Facilities, Moot Court, Examination and Library fee. With an increase of Rs. 5,000 in each subsequent year, there were no scholarships or tuition waiver from the university per se. However, assistance is provided by Dr. Hari Chand who manages the scholarship desk incase a student is eligible for state scholarship from their respective domicile. The fee structure of HPNLU seems to be increasing without fail, as if the price goes up like a clockwork with every new batch.

Campus Life

1

The numerous committes and centres keep the campus as vibrant as possible with their events and volunteer works such as drives and hostings. There are: The Debating Society, MCC, ADR, IPR, Rotatry Club, LSC, CWCR and various others who shall be taking in SoPs' and interviews during the selection process when applying to, as a member. The library has daily newspaper subscription along with various recent publications from the field of law, economics and politics. Books for various courses and specializations are available is sufficient quantity. The library isn't as spacious as other NLUs' but is expanding its area with time. One can issue a book for 7-10 days with their college ID. The digital library is fulfilled with various databases such as manupatra, SCC, Hein Online, Jstor etc which one can access via their college email-id. A number of sports fests are organized throughout the year (every semester), though we lack an adequate campus ground for conducting outdoor sports such as volleyball, football and basketball. Indoor sports like table tennis, chess, carrom etc have a separate sports room allocated to them. Boys and Girls have separate gyms with adequate and well-maintained facilties and lighting. Academic events are given a priority over campus fests and events such as Moot Court and ADR. Festival celebrations are mostly student led and organized by themselves. Freshers and Foundation day are the only grand celebrations you shall observe in this university. The classrooms are acquainted with smart boards, white boards and projectors with great wifi connectivity. The infrastructure includes Moot Court Hall and Conference Hall, as can be seen in various official HPNLU videos on youtube. Halls and smaller classrooms are allocated as per need of the faculty.

Hostel Facilities

4

We have different hostels for different batches for which fee in included within the fee specified above, speaking for the first years, we were allocated with dual-occupancy in Rishika Maitreiya Hostel which was not less than a beautiful accomodative hostel. A beautiful view with a spacious balcony. The room was well-furnished with a large wardrobe. a study table and a huge shelf, curtains, large windows (therefore entilation and heat is not an issue) and a box bed. A spacious lift is installed for easy arrival at upper floors (1st-6th floor) We had common washrooms consisiting of gyzers and wash basins at each floor with laundry services on sundays. We also have wifi routers on each floor with promising connectivity and speed along with attendants at the reception. Currently, the university owns only one hostel building while the rest remain rented, although the contruction for others are in process. A student is required to shift their hostel buildings almost every year with no room for single occupancy whatsoever.. The mess committee annually or semester-wise changes the menu for the week. The breakfast changes everyday and ranges from poha, upma to idli sambhar along with milk, coffee and chai. The lunch and dinner consists of chapati, dal, sabji and every saturday/sunday, a sweet dish. No chicken dishes are made, however egg curry is made which is usually eaten by none.

Admission

HPNLU is a associated with and is a part of the Consortium of NLUs' and thus selects students based on their ranks through the national exam conducted by the Consortium called "CLAT" (Common Law Admission Test) which one can attempt after completing their 12th grade with a min. of 45%. The cut-off was 2200-2800 for General and went upto 30,000 for NRI and SC/ST castes. There is domicile applicable to 25% of its seats. Vanacies shall arise after the counselling process is over, in case you're not allotted an university by the 5th round. The tests consisted of 150 questions which has been recently reduced to 120 questions containing the sections of GK, Maths, English, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning.

Faculty

4

The university has a group of well-educated, hard-working and eminent personalities who have contributed to great pieces of publication and policy-making originating from NLUs' and upholding Ph.Ds' , it is a pleasure learning from them (you shall meet the legends when you arrive). The faculties are highly approachable and friendly during the teaching hours and even after that, they appreciate doubts and questions . I've personally seeked mentorship and guidance from various faculties and everyone has been kind enough to go beyond their way to help their student. The examination structure is divided into mid-sems and end -sems of 25 marks and 50 marks respectively, the remaining 25 are kept for internal and presentation grading, constituting 100 marks each semester. Readings and case laws are given on a daily basis along with lectures. The examinations are not based on rote-learning, rather on application and analyzing therefore understanding of concept is a must since the questions are not direct. The ratio of success to failure is negligible unless you have given up on studies and decide to roam off in the mountains. The course curriculum is in line with the UGC guidelines and is updated every semester for every incoming batch. Though, it would be appreciated if extra-curricular activities are inculcated during lectures and are not restricted till the times of assignment allocation.

Interview Experience

3

The candidates were not subjected to any interviews or group discussions for the admission, rather a written-MCQ based test for which you can prepare within a span of 4-6 months however securing a rank within the general limit is a tricky situation based on luck since you may lose your spot even with a difference of 0.25 marks. The written test is divided in 5 parts as mentioned previosuly and the level of difficulty can be inferred from PYQs'.

Night Life

2

The students usually enjoy their time while having snacks around the campus and maximizing the utility of the serene beauty of nature while being seated on the benches installed by the student welfare of HPNLU. Some spend their time in the library while others go for walks or long drives and dine out in cafes', bakeries and restaurants. Gyms are available in girls and boys hostel. The hostel timings are non-flexible due to unfrorseen weather and danger of animal sighting and attendance is taken at sharp 8-9:00 PM at girls hostel.

generally from 5th year which is also the last year students become eligible for campus placement. package on average go to 15 Lpa some students also get packages of 25 lpa . Generally in law field students opt out to be a judge or going for higher studies so students taking placements are very low .

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is updated each year. Even if the syllabus lacks certain essential reading material, the teachers themselves provide PDFs and relevant reading material for the same. The PDFs for case laws, articles, judgements are provided by law teachers to the students so that they come equipped to the classes. There's always a difference between theory and the real world. You can learn and write the exams but it depends on you how you apply the knowledge practically. According to me, the timings for semester exams is adequate. The exams are not at all difficult. You must pay attention to the teachers in classrooms.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose the course because of my passion for law and social sciences. The faculty to student ratio has significantly improved now. The teaching method varies from faculty to faculty but all of them are learned and make their best efforts to give you knowledge. There are two term exams- mid sems and end sems. There is one assignment with viva for each subject per semester. The papers are mostly practical and enhance one's knowledge in text and practice.
