Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was really good for someone who is interested in going for Masters. It provides a base for almost all areas of Computer Science. Less focus was given for practical and corporate skills. The exams were fairly difficult.
Internships Opportunities
Internship Cell was active in the college and they provide internship opportunities throughout the year. Many companies offer roles to students which help them gain practical skills. Stipends were usually provided and ranged from 5000 to 10000, although some companies offered unpaid internships.
Placement Experience
Placements start from the 5th Semester and you can apply for them till one year after your graduation. A lot of companies belonging to different tiers visited the campus for placements and made a good number of offers. Students who were serious about getting placements got at least one offer. Highest package was 21 LPA offered by DE Shaw. Average was around 5-6 LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure for the B. Sc. (H) Computer Science course in Hansraj College was approximately Rs, 50,000 per year, which covers tuition, caution, lab and other fees except exam fees of approximately Rs. 1,500 every semester. All students paid same fees. Scholarships were available on merit-cum-needs basis for which students have to apply separately and interviews will be conducted by the faculty of the respecctive department. The fees was same for almost all categories except PwD.
Campus Life
The campus life was really good. There were different students clubs for various activities. Annual fest was conducted in February of 2024 and held over 3 days. Technical festivals were held by the different departments around the year and the themes were specific to their subject of study. Library facilities are great and it is air conditioned which provided students with proper facilities during exam times.
Admission
Hansraj College is one of the best college of DU, and it was the best choice for my course in DU. The admission process was based on marks in 12th grade and there was a common portal to apply for it. Being located in the North Campus, the college is connected to other parts of the university and the city making it a very enriching experience.
Faculty
The student to faculty ratio was not good. The numbers of students in my batch was 89, and the faculty were around 10. Some professors were nice, others were too high on their ego. Internal exams were conducted twice or thrice for each subject in each semester, and by considering other factors like attendance and class performance, internal marks were decided. Practical exams were conducted for almost all subjects and the performance during the exam and regular perfomance in the lab was considered for the marks. All subjects had annual exams of 75 marks. Students who failed an exam could retake in the next year. Those who want to improve their marks can also retake an exam in the following year.
Night Life
There are lots of gyms, cafes and public areas in and around the campus. Being located in North Campus, it is well connected with other parts of the city. The college hostel had a curfew of 11 pm and general campus timings were from 7 am to 6-7 pm. Famous hangout places include fast food restaurants like KFC, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Dominos, Subway and others. It is generally safe to roam around at night if you are with friends.
