Course Curriculum Overview

4

My course, Btech in Computer science, has a vide variety of opportunities in the technical field. This along with my love for coding, which is the basis of my course throughout the the entire curriculum prompted me to choose this course. The curriculum also focuses on in depth knowledge of Computer and it's related aspects. The Curriculum prepares one for real world applications as the learning process of the curriculum focuses on the relevant stuffs. A core subject student also studies other major's subject too. This provides a basic knowledge about almost everything and once we encounter a similar situation in our life, we can always put our knowledge to use. We also have opportunity to study different about different fields and this knowledge will always helpfull in the tral world. The curriculum focuses on soft skills too and it enhances our communication and social skills among others. Even though the course curriculum really focuses on the technical side there is always room for improvement. The curriculum should focus on practical knowledge rather than the theoretical one. And the teaching method could also follow the same. Theoretical subjects creates boredom among students and they lack the interest of studying. Hence students prefer practical knowledge and such knowledge will never be forgotten. The frequency and timings of the exams are perfect at it's normal flow. But nowadays we have to encounter almost 3 semester exams in a year and this is really difficult for students. This was a side effect of covid lockdowns. Three main exams in a year creates pressure among students. The difficulty level of the exams usually vary. We cannot predict it. And the Internal occur almost once a month but that doesn't affect us negatively

Placement Experience

3

Mostly students become eligible from 6th semester but there are rare cases where students got placed in their 5th semester. We get placement training from 5th semester itself. The companies visited here includes: Unisys, Cisco, Goggle, SOTTI, Mitsogo, Skill Kendra AISET, Cuvette, Sutherland, Experion, Hut Labs, Zoho, Walmart, etc. Almost 264 companies came here for placement last year and large amount of offers were made. Highest package is 8 lacks per annum and average is 4 lakhs per annum. Almost 60-70% of Students are getting placed. I'm bot entirely sure about it. It's just a rough estimate. I'm hoping to get placed and if I won't get into a good company I'll try for Masters after my graduation

Fees and Financial Aid

There are three types of tution fee structures for the following categories; Students with Merit and belongs to backward castes gets fea weaver, that is no fee for them, the second category is Merit students who have ?75000 as their fees per semester, and the last category- Management and NRI students have 1 to 1.5 lakh as their fees. Caution fee includes 10k and other fees are not at all expensive as they are of minimum cost.

Campus Life

4

Technical fest are not the best features of our college although we do get fests once a year and it's usually in the even semester mostly in the month of April or May. We get Sports fest in the odd semester in the month of October or November. Our Library has a vide variety of books and we can access three books per student at a time. The duration of keeping library books is fifteen days and if not returned by then a fine of rupees Fifty has to be paid. Textbooks relevant to the curriculum and other extra resources are also availabe in the library. Our Classroom has great facilities including white board and projector. The ventilation and lighting is also great and the chairs are really comfortable. Sports has a special place in the heart of SSET. We focus on extracurricular activities and also participates in D-Zone and Interzone events. The facilities for promoting sports is really resourceful. We also have a gymnasium which can be accessed by both women and men. There are many clubs in our college including Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Club, Tinkerhub, IEDC, IEEE, Cybersecurity, etc. students actively conducts and participate in the events conducted by these clubs. They promote events by calling mentors and experts to conduct events. Hackathons are also conducted by many of these clubs

Hostel Facilities

4

Three people are allotted per room and the rooms have essential facilities including 2 tubelights and a fan and 3 beds and 3 tables and chais. We also have a hanger to hang our cloths and a cupboard with 9 racks, 3 for each person. There are 2 Sockets for charging. Toilet facilities are commonly available for each floor. We have common bathroom and toilet. Washrooms are also available there. Meal quality is really high here compared to other colleges. We get traditional food items for breakfast and meals. There are veg options available too. Meal quantity depends on the persons wish as we can take more according to our wish. We get snacks for tea. Hostel facilities are really affordable as the rent is only 2000 rupees per month. The registration process is also simple. It is through college management as the hostel comes directly under the supervision of the college principal. Maby PG facilities are available within a walking distance in the locality near College. They are usually available in Nalukettu and Pallissery. Within a 2km radius plenty of PG facilities are available.

Admission

I applied to government colleges and MITS ,RIST and FISAT too among with SSET. But I got confirmation letter from SSET in my first allotment itself. I choose SSET because it has a great infrastructure and wide possibility of opportunities. One of my relative was an alumni of this college and I got to know about the college from her perspective. The response I got from others whenever I asked about my college was really positive and hence I chose SSET. I never got rejection from other colleges I applied to, I simply chose to settle in the first college I got allotted after my KEAM Rank list got published. I chose SSET over other colleges because other colleges were really expensive and I never wanted to push my family to go through such a hard time just for my education. Even though I got admitted to a really great college with a high quality course the fees there in one sem was twice the amount I had to pay in SSET for a year The admission process of my college was quite simple. All we had to do was submit my certificates and sign a few papers. It Lasted only one and half hours. The eligibility to get here included passing the KEAM Exam and having 50% or more pass mark in plus two. The student must have studied Science subject with either Biology or Computer Science as the main Subject. My overall admission experience was really great. I got to talk with my principal during my admission and she was really nice. All the staff were really supportive.

Faculty

3

The faculty to student ratio is almost 1:20. Faculties here are really approachable. They take care of us and Will always be there in time of a need. Although there are some faculties who are tough to approach. I think the facilities in basic science department are most approachable. They teach us mainly during our first year. They are really pleasant to approach and will take good care of us I think I don't like majority of facilities in Computer Science department as they have tough character. But it doesn't mean that they are bad. They are just concerned about our grades and hence maintains a tough personality There are two Internal exams and One semester exam in each semester. Internals are not that tough as we can always refer previous year question papers and the grading system in also neutral. But semester exams depends on the university question paper. It may vary. Almost 5 out of 65 fails to clear the exams every semester . The course provided is very relevant to the curriculum as it covers almost every topics of the graduating field. Courses provided includes theoretical as well as problematic type of syllabus and they enhances our knowledge and provide a deep insight on the subject.

Night Life

3

I think our favourite hangout spot includes college garden and B.Arch building as it is aesthetically pleasing. Our late night activities include mainly Hackathons. There were time when people conducted jams and concerts during evenings. People usually hang out at the library or in the cafeteria after class hours. We are also permitted to go outside till 6:45 so students usually enjoy to a tea stall which is situated right in front of our college gate. The place is also best for evening walks. Gym timings are from 6:30 to 7:15 for girls and 7:15 to 8:30 for the boys in the morning and 4 pm to 6:30pm for both boys and girls in the evening. Library hours are from 9:00am and closes at 6pm. The Cafeteria and mess timings are from 7:30am to 8:45am , 11am to 2pm , 3:30pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00pm to 8:30pm. The public area is open for all till 8:30pm. Ladies hostel timing is 7:45. Everyone should get inside the hostel on or before 7:45 and Men's hostel timing in till 8:30.locality is totallysafe

As seniors said the average package is around 10lpa.If you have descent skills and above 8 cgpa you will get this average package. If you upskill yourself with effort which many students do here then you can also get above 15lpa which many seniors got.The highest package was off-campus by an ECE Student in Google despite having cgpa around 6.He had very good skills as a full stack developer.

The major recruiter is ISRO which offers 40-45 jobs for aerospace engineering. Also other companies like CDac Airbus Boeing and DRDO and HAL visit for recruitment. Nearly 85-90% students get placed while some opt for Higher education and research too. My primary goal is to get into ISRO also I will be preparing for gate examination to complete my IIT dream.
