The National Institute of Engineering- A review by a student

The college campus and infrastructure is ok. The college curriculum and teaching is not good. The hostel facility is ok. The library and other facilities are good. The main attraction is placements which is very good to CS, IS and good to EC and EE.

The college curriculum is not that standard. It is in very much resemblance with the vtu syllabus. The courses are offered depending on the availability of the lecturers. The syllabus is outdated. The new technologies are not taught.

The college doesn't provide internship. But they arrange placements so that the corporate companies can visit and hire students for internship. Recently the compulsory internship requirement has been added to the pre final year students and TEQUIP provides stipend which is a gesture but not enough.

Placement is good for the computer science and information science. It is okay for the electronics and electrical students. It has not been good for the other branches. Many tier 1 companies like SAP,Intuit,CISCO visited this academic year.

The TECHNIEKS is the biggest event celebrated in our college. It is the college fest. On behalf of that there will be 3 days of cultural programs, entertainment events and competitions. The other branch individual fests are also conducted.

The fee structure for the government aided branches are feasible. It is nearly 20000. The fee for unaided branches goes up to 50000. There will be additional fee of 10000 to everybody. Since this college is in Mysore the expenses are less.

The college doesn't provide any scholarship at least not that I know of. But we can apply scholarship outside like Karnataka e-pass and others. The college office provides good services in the documents and signatures required for the scholarships.

For the sake of TECHNIEKS there will be many competitions conducted. Football, cricket, chess and others. The champions of the year trophy goes to the branch which collects highest points. There will be Hackathons being conducted.

Girls' hostel is inside the college campus which looks good. The security is good, liberty is there and food is also good. The cleanliness is sufficient. The boys' hostel is outside the college campus and rest is similar. No ragging is there.

Since the college has started in 1946 many aluminis are there who have made achievements in society. Infosys N R Narayana Murthy is one such alumini. We had been receiving the emails about their activities but nothing else.

Examinations has not been not thought provoking. Almost every time I felt like memorizing and reproducing. The questions are asked from the textbook only. On the long run they doesn't help our career or knowledge.

After the pu exams I attended Karanataka cet in 2015. I got good rank enough to secure a seat in this college. After the document verification I got the admission letter in kcet website. Then I had to come to the college to finalize the admit.

There are many faculties who has experience in teaching and some of them has a doctorate degree. Some others are freshers. But almost all of them are good at most at teach the contents of the textbook. I have not seen a single lecturer in 4 years who was well versed in modern computer science streams.
