What Students Say
Likes
- The societies are incredible. There are a lot of activitiess outside the class which helps to grow socially and technically. The events are conducted frequently.
- Good surrounding with a positive vibe. Could be a good time with friends
- Good placement cell especially for computer science
Dislikes
- Each block is very much seperated meaning it very difficult to reach other blocks especially cse block which is pretty far from others. Icredibly difficult especially in summer
- Certain labs contain equipment with is old, malfunctioning and may not give the needed results. Certain computers too may be tough to work on
- Poor sylabus which maybe not attributed to the college yet it is largely outdated with socities being the way to study developments.
Course Curriculum Overview
The reason I choose this course was to get a job in computer field, capable of developing software, apps and websites for making things easy. Unfortunately, the course is still stuck old coding languages like c, java. This is good for a base but unfortunately upcoming methods like AI,blockchain,Deep learning,Gen AI etc are either taught less or not even taught. Exams are decent but evaluations considered tough
Placement Experience
I am not very sure about placements, The placements start arounf 6 or 7th semester with a lot of differnet companies like TCS, IBM, cognizant, tarento. Job offers average of 3 lakh with highest of 6-7 lakhs. Arounf 80% students get place for cse with other branches may drop to below 50%.
Fees and Financial Aid
From a first year perspective, at the begining i paid around an amount of 14000 of which a i think 8 to 10 was for the parent teacher association, around 3.5 thousand for tution fees, admission fees, lab fees. Exam fees are seperate which are given during the exam times. There is also a compulsory 1000 fees for the bus whether you ride it or not. There would be also excemptions for some categories for special reservations. I believe the fees will be less from second sem.
Campus Life
Ragam is the arts festival held every 2 years and Keli is the cultural festival held every 2 years which both are great. Each department has it own library which contains books donated by previous students which may not be properly maintained. There is a main library which contains a lot of books. Each classroom has a projector but frequent electricity cuts makes it difficult. There are diffrent sports events which are conducted by students and has a good sir which supports any player. There are also three main socties IEEE, IEDC and ISTE which are increbile and provide excellent technical programs.
Admission
My intial colleges include St gits, St joseph's pala, cet, GEC. St gits and St joseph's pala did offer me a seat yet i preferred this college due to better fees structure and the level of students i am surrounded by. I was rejected by GEC and CET due to lack of marks in KEAM, The only way to get into this college is through KEAM, the engineering entrance exam for engineering colleges in Kerala, For getting into this college the rank should be atleat 3300 , with around 2500 guranteeing the admission. Other admission process are done through KEAM portal and only once required to come to college with all necessary documents.
Faculty
There are diffrent departments and subjects due to which the faculty varies where it may range from 2 teachers in physics department to around 12 for thecomputer department. Most of the faculties are well versed with the subjects and make it easy for students to approach, Yet some maybe tough initially cope with. There are 2 internal exams of 30 marks and an end semester exam for 60 marks. Internal exams may completely depend on the faculty. Bassed on the level of students, maximum 5 to 6 students may fail but less likely.
Night Life
Never been in the college at night. There is a gym which is accessible in the morning and evening only but may not have much equipment. There are three cafetarias but one near cse may not be always open. The main one gives decent food and snacks with decent seating. College hostel may not contain many seats in the first year. Most students live in neighbouring hostels with varying rates and rules. Biggest problem at nights are dogs which in 1 or 2 cases have bit students
