Course Curriculum Overview

5

I was always eager to study about plants and nature and when I studied about the SKUAST jammu i immediately appeared for the CET exam and scored the qualifying number for admission and chose the degree program of bsc hons horticulture and took the next step in my life to connect with plant world. This degree provides knowledge about agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, agrometrology and many more environmental and food related industries . This degree generates employment in various food sector like food processing industries , fruit cultivation , flower cultivation. And in my last year i have took the beekeeping as optional subjects which teaches about bee rearing and honey production. The difficulty level is moderate which a student if studies regularly can pass. The university should improve is education policy by including more practical work rather than theoretical work .

Fees and Financial Aid

Normally the fee for semester is 8000 and the scholarship is giver to top 10 students which is about 6000 per semester and the fees is usually increased year wise that is students who have taken admission in 2021 will have 8000 rupees fee per semester apart from admission fee which if included will become 16000 and if hostel is also included then it will be 21000 and the batch of 2022 have the fee structure of 10000 and along with admission fees and hostel fee it will be about 24000

Campus Life

4

The college is very good place to socialise as the campus is a very friendly place There is no ragging or torture. Seniors here are very supportive. The college organises various fest like kisan mela Bvsc fest and various other festivals celebrations like Holi Diwali. The freshers and farewell party are also very good and interesting to take part in The students also run social groups as we have a course (NSS) for this which motivates students to take part in social activities

Admission

I initially appeared for neet but was not selected because I didn't qualified enough score due to my health issues then took admission in bsc chemistry program from govt degree college. But after mid term exams i quit the degree program and appeared for skaust jammu and gave the entrance examination. The qualification for exam with 12th should be passed and the subject in higher secondary have to be medical or non medical . I was a student having both and thus appeared for the entrance got selected in 2nd councilling . Overall admission process was very friendly and the teacher present at the councilling suggested me to take horticulture as degree program which indeed was a good decision

Faculty

4

The faculty is quiet sufficient according to student faculty ratio . Each department has a teacher for particular subject and the level of teaching is also good . There are two exams per semester that is the internal exams which are conducted by the internal faculty and the papers also checked by them and marks are also given by the end in external exams the question paper is set by some other university and also checked by another university and the result is given by calculating the numbers attained in both the exams and also including practical marks

Night Life

4

There is a gym within campus and and a valley ball court for the students extracurricular activities. The hostel timing for girls hostel is 5am to 8 pm and for boys hostel is 5 am to 10 pm The hangout are is foa where nescafe and canteen is located usually all the students meeting take place there. The students have a vast options to chill and explore in this college

Agriculture is practical oriented course that's why i chose it and it takes me to my roots as my father is also farmer. Practical knowledge of this course prepares me for real world. Course curriculum must be practical along with book knowledge and teaching should be interactive. In 6 month semester we give two times exam and exams are easy.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is actually preparing us how to become profitable in all the situations like during adverse weather conditions ,insect pest and diseases infestation, how to cope up with all the situations that can leads to decrease our yield.i personally choose this course to know the things that are happening in our daily life like knowing the reason of increase or decrease of income in agricultural fields ,use of pesticides, insecticides ,their quantity and specificity so that become less toxic to consume. The exams are quite easy but due to presence of alot of subjects no holiday is available during exams except Saturday and sunday
