What Students Say?
Likes
- The college fees is greatly affordable and even hostel charges are amazing.
- The curriculum is top notch. It is very practical and focuses on real life problems than just theory.
Dislikes
- The professors tend to leave only after teaching a year or two which is a major setback.
- The college is not as popular so the placements aren't as attractive as they should be,given the performance and aptitude of students.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is perhaps the best thing about the college. With a mixture of all skilles that are relevant in today's world, it really makes the best of the best syllabus for economics. In addition to core subjects we have interesting and skill adding subjects such as psychology, sociology, AI, R and Python, Data analysis, etc. Apart from this, we also get to study a foreign language of our choice for a year, choosing between German and French.
Internships Opportunities
Honestly, internships are more or less seeked by the college students themselves. However the campus training and placement office does come into play during 4th and 5th year. Some of the companies that students frequently intern in are Ernest and young, Niti Ayog, RBI, Infosys, etc. The interniships can give a stipend of anywhere between 5 to 10000 and might provide accommodation.
Placement Experience
So the students are eligible for campus placements once they get a bachelor's degree which is after 3rd year. As for the campus placements, an average of 8 lakhs is offered and companies such as Ernest and young have also offered bigger packages of 12 to 14 lakhs. About 80 percent of students do get placed. Personally, i feel that the placements are too less and not attractive. Hence my plan is to leave the college after getting done with my bachelor's and apply elsewhere.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tution fee is a very affordable at 31,500 rupees only. The college provides hostel within the campus itself for all it's students. Additionally there are quite a lot of amenities like gym, activity centre and a huge library. The college charges 2000 as library fees, 3000 as medical fees, 3000 as sports and gym fees, 5000 computer and wifi fees, 4530 as infrastructure fees, 19000 as hostel fees and 3000 as electrical fees, etc. Including all of these additional costs, the rough overall sum up comes to about 1,05,000 rupees (excluding the mess fees). In addition to the already affordable costs, the college does provide scolarships to three students per batch. One scholarship is provided at the end of first year where the batch topper recieves a scholarship, a topper from karnataka receives a scholarship and a topper from SC,ST or EWS recieves a scholarship. These scholarships are again offered at the start of the 4th year.
Campus Life
Campus life isn't very lively. The college has one fest called Aurora every year. Other than that occasional celebrations like freshers, farewell and ganesh chathurthi are organised by the student bodies themselves. There is an activity centre, student centre and gym. The gym has a lot of equipments and a trainer. There are a number of extracurricular activities like football, basketball, badminton, chess, carrom and even squash. We have multiple clubs like music club, placement club, quiz club, debate club, fashion club and many others.
Hostel Facilities
So for the first two years, stufents share a room with three other people of the same batch. On the 3rd year, you get a double sharing room and single rooms are given for 4th and 5th years. The rooms are very spacious and you are provided with an almirah, a table, chair and a cot. The mess is literally awful. They have a monotonous and puke inducing menu which is not recommended at all. The hostel rooms are very affordable.
Admission
So, one of the colleges that i got into was Delhi University. Although its an esteemed college, I have always been a little skeptical about studying in Delhi. Keeping that fear aside, BASE offered this marvellous curriculum which felt like a dream for an indian college. This practical knowledge instead of theoretic mug up made this college stand out. I didn't get rejected from any colleges i applied to. The admission for this college is through a test called CUET . For a 5 year integrated degree in economics, CUET UG is to be given and for a 2 years masters in economics CUET PG is given. The subject mathematics is a compulsion that must be studied as eligibility.
Faculty
One of the worst things about the college is that the faculties don't really stay for a long time. We had some marvellous professors like Ms. Sheetal Bharat and Mr. Bipin Sony but alas, they left the college. Other than that there are still professors like Ms. Sneha Martin and Ms. Megha Chabbra who are very knowledgeable and have always been very helpful. Since the class only consists of around 60, it makes it easier for the professors to aptly interact with everyone. Every student gets to freely approach all professors regarding his/her doubts. Taking about exams, we have three interim exams which are of 30 or 20 marks each, considering the number of credits the subject has. The best two of three are considered for the overall result. Then at the end of each semester we have an end sem exam of 100 or 80 marks. Additionally, a supplementary exam can be written by students who might've failed in the end sems. Considering the course isn't very hectic or tough, only about 2 people per subject fail and get a back. The interim exams are not too difficult however the end sem exams can be expected to be set a little challenging.
Night Life
The gym and cafeterias shut at 7 or 8 itself. As for library, the timings are till 10 normally but during exam season the timing is extended till 12 at night. The students are required to reach campus by 8 pm on weekdays and 9 pm on weekends and holidays. Other than this students are required to be present in the hostel by 10 pm. The amphitheater, cafeteria and student centre are hotspots for interacting with friends. Additionally, who doesn't enjoy long walks in such a huge campus?
Other Applied Colleges
Delhi University - [DU] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Computer Science)
I don't find Delhi to be a very safe option for female students.
