Remarks

I did not apply to any other college other than Indian Statistical Institute- Bangalore, because this was my only aim and a dream college. I did not avail any quota and belong to the general category. The minimum age is 17 and the maximum is 20. The minimum marks vary depending on how the students have scored. The admission process was fairly simple. Approximately 1 month after the exam, an initial list of 85 students was declared from which the top 50 were eligible for admission and the rest were on the waiting list who would be eligible for admission in case of any vacancy. We got an email from the authorities right after the admission process got over. We were given a college email ID for official communication along with the date and time of counselling. On the day of counselling, some of the teachers along with the Head of ISIBC introduced us to the course and the campus along with the prerequisites for the course.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I was always interested in pure mathematics and wanted to explore the subject more. I had a keen interest in several topics like Number Theory, Algebra and this course seemed perfect for me to carry on with my goals. We have 5 teachers for a class of 30 so the ratio is around 1:6. All the faculties have completed their PhDs in their respective subjects and are extremely talented. Some of them have won several national and international accolades. We have semester exams at the end of every semester. Each semester lasts for 4 months. In between the course, we have weekly assignments and homework. The semester exams are of moderate difficulty level but require out of the box thinking. The assignments and Homeworks are not to difficult but are meant to keep up with the pace of the class.

Internships Opportunities

4

The students can apply for internships through various sources according to their personal choices. However, the students of ISIBC are invited for summer projects in top tier labs of France, the USA, UK, Singapore, etc. Our semester marks, research papers and knowledge are the criteria for the above.

Placement Experience

5

Students become eligible for campus placements right after completing their B.Math(Hons) degree, i.e after their 6th semester. Companies like Microsoft, Google, LinkedIn, Wipro, and other Multinational Companies visit and every student gets an offer from one company or the other. The package ranges from 10LPA to 25LPA. Those students who opt for placement after their B.Math(Hons) course is over, all get a placement offer while most of the students prefer to continue their Master's Degree. I too would like to complete my Master's Degree after my bachelor and think about further options thereafter.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are no tuition fees for the students of the Indian Statistical Institute - Bangalore. However, we are required to pay a monthly amount of 200 INR for hostel charges and 4000 INR annually as Mess charges. Every student receives a stipend of 5000 INR and an annual contingency grant of 5000 INR during the bachelor.

Campus Life

5

CHAOS is the annual fest of our institute that happens annually during the month of March. ISIBC library has a vast variety of national and international books on various topics of Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science. We also have some popular science journals as well which can be borrowed by the students for their needs. The classroom is well designed and has all the basic facilities including lights, fans, blackboards and well built bench and chairs. ISIBC is spread over a vast 30 acres land which has 2 football grounds, 1 basketball court, 2 tennis courts and a gymnasium. The students of ISIBC have a math club for weekly lectures by students and discussion of intruiging problems and solutions. The link is : mathclubisibang.wordpress.com

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostels of ISIBC are fairly big for 2 persons which is the maximum accommodation. The meal quality is absolutely top class and is available at really affordable rates from the ISI Canteen. The menu includes all sorts of South Indian as well day to day food items like Rice, Dal, Curry, etc. We can register for the hostel right at the time of admission and also later subject to availability. Registering for the hostel guarantees us a room since the number of students is pretty low.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There wasn't really any. It was mostly the friendliness of the profs that pulled me into maths. Do note that in IISc, the first three semesters are common and you pick majors after that. The maths curriculum prepares you for a future in either industry or academia. Moreover, one can take courses in other departments to help their industry pursuits. Only way would be to make some courses more interactive, but this hasn't been a problem for me personally. Most high level courses have two exams. Sometimes not even that. And exams generally aren't difficult for someone who has kept up with the course.

from 6th semister onwards students are eligible for pkacements. I dont know about the companies of placements as iam a fresher here. The placements here are really good in this course. After Msc forensic science the annual package in an average here is 2-5 lakhs. Almost 80% of forensic students get placement here. As iam pursuing my bachelors here, iam thinking of writing the entrance exam for NFSU gujarath for my Masters.

Placement Experience:

Our university has a training and placement office for the fourth and fifth year students. Before that you need to find internship opportunities yourself. The significant companies include EY, MoSpi, RBI, NSE etc. The is around 50% placements. The highest package was around 40 lakhs and the lowest 5 lakhs. I plan on working in the RBI after my degree.
