Remarks
I applied to many IITs and Jadavpur University. However, being invested in Mathematics, I thought that ISI Bangalore will be best for me. Most importantly I do not regret my decision as its a great institute. I did not have any quota, however, there are reservation of seats in the institute. The admission process is a little difficult. They have a separate entrance exam which has olympiad level mathematics. The minimum age is 17 and maximum is 20. Also, in order to sit for the exam you need to have english and mathematics in +2. Due to covid we did not have any interviews which is difficult too. The counselling was easier for me as I was selected in the first list. However, the competition is high due to less number of seats.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course has a perfect balance of pure and applied mathematics. It also includes statistics, computer science, and physics. It leaves us with a lot of options for future. The faculty: student ratio is too high, something like 1:20. I believe that is what makes ISI differ from other colleges. We get a lot of teacher attention. Not only that we get to learn under the top mathematicians of India. The teaching method is also quite nice. We are taught with chalk and blackboard which seems to ideal for mathematics. The exams are timely taken. We even have regular homework and quizzes. Yes it may be difficult to pass but a mathematics lover will enjoy the process.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are offered in companies that require analysts and data. However, most of the students are not interested in internships, they work with professors for projects. Projects often lead to writing high-quality papers in mathematics.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placement after the 5th semester. However, most of the students opt for higher studies but whoever sits for placement is placed. There has been 100% placements for the last two years. The highest package offered is 22 LPA and the average being 14LPA. Top recruiters include Walmart Labs, Chegg, etc. The places offered are in programmers, RND, analysts, etc. However, I will more likely go for higher studies abroad.
Fees and Financial Aid
The interesting fact is that the fees for the college is in negative. Yes, I am not kidding. You do not need to pay any fees instead they provide us with Rs 5000 per month scholarship along with a book grant of Rs 2000 per year.
Campus Life
We have an annual fest named Chaos. Apart from that we have LIMIT which is an online mathematics competition organized by the students of ISI Bangalore. The library is awesome. It has a huge collection of databases and survey. The classrooms have a quite a nice benches and desks. There are lot of sport facilities including various courts. one thing that ISI Bangalore lacks is clubs. However we do have some websites like: Math Club's website: https://mathclubisibang.wordpress.com LIMIT's Website: https://www.limitisi.in Chaos's Website: https://www.isibang.ac.in/~chaos/
Hostel Facilities
We have single rooms from the undergraduate second year. Also, the meal is quite healthy if not too tasty. The menu is completely vegeterian. For non-veg students need to go outside. The registration process of hostel is taken care off during the admission. The hostel is quite affordable. Most of the students live in hostel. Hardly any of them commute from PG.
