What Students Say
Likes
- The location of the college is set in the heart of Newtown which is very near to the bus stand and auto stands so transportation won't be a problem at all.
- The food in the canteen is very hygiene maintained.
- The campus is very strict about keeping it's environment safe. So it is an absolutely ragging free and you would be under surveillance all the time so as to ensure nothing goes wrong in the campus.
Dislikes
- The account department faculty and management is a thing that not only me but most of my peers dislike about, specially if you are someone who gets a little delayed while paying fees.
- The infrastructure of the library is very shabby and not well maintained.
- The wifi provided by the college also is really very slow.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum covers all the major aspects of data structures and algorithms, networking, web development which are very important when it comes to placements. The course all includes soft skills development and aptitude development which are also important aspects when it comes to placement. These aspects influenced me to choose this course. The curriculum is well devised which will surely help you when it comes to real life applications or even if you're someone who is wanting to appear for examinations likeGATE or CAT. The gap between each exam is well maintained giving ample time for the students to prepare for them.
Internships Opportunities
Well our college does provide internship during the third year but most of them are unpaid internships. And also only a very percentage of students opt for those internships and majority of the students willing for internship opt for off campus internship offers that are paid. So internship opportunities in Snu is not up to the mark yet.
Placement Experience
Although companies like Microsoft and Amazon do visit our college for placements but To be honest placements are not really too good in Snu. Only a few students who are actually brilliant manage to get those big packages of 45-50 lakhs, the rest majority of the average students are only selected by small service based companies like TCS, cognizant and ibm and the weak students who have struggled a bit with the course manage to get only a package of 2.5 to 3lpa and gets placed in small non funded startups. So the placement percentage although they claim it's 99 percent but only 50-60 percent of the students are actually placed. Also talking of placement i would like to say that not all students are eligible to sit for the placements as first you will need to clear some cutoffs and criterias before that. Firstly you will need to have a minimum of 75 percent attandance in all the semesters, then you also need to maintain a cgpa of 7plus in all the semester examinations and lastly you will also need to have a minimum of 60 percent in your class X and xii boards examination results.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fees for the course of BTech from SNU is Rs.700000 for 4years. During admission you need to pay Rs.115000 as admission fees and first sems fees then from second semester onwards you need to pay Rs.83000 per semester before you semester examination. This fees includes your tuition fees, maintenance fees, the library charges etc. Our college also supports some scholarships like the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship. Apart from that our college also provides their own Scholarship that is based on your merit.
Campus Life
Well talking of campus life, unfortunately SNU doesn't conduct any fests. But yeah there are often some small events and workshops that are held, where some celebrities and tech experts are invited as guest lecturers to keep the students motivated and enlightened. Now moving on to the range and accessibility of books and journals yeah the library of our college has a wide variety of books which you can definitely borrow when and if needed. Talking of the faculties and technologies provided in the classroom all the classrooms have smart boards which I guess is a good thing as there many topics which needs a visual representation. Next moving on to the sports culture of our college yes there are certain sports held in our college like cricket football kabaddi basketball, but unfortunately there is no rooms for indoor sports. Also there are gym and yoga facilities provided by our college, the charges of which are already included in your college fees. Then there also certain clubs setup in our college like dance clubs, dramatics club, music club, debate club. There also coding clubs in our college like — skepsis, gsdc, gfg etc. which organises quizzes, seminars and competition among the students. Our college also motivates taking part in hackathons.
Admission
Well I didn't apply for any other college. Snu was the college i applied to and got my seat here in this college. And I myself chose this college's fees structure was in my budget and also transportation was easy for this college. Now talking of the admission process of snu, well you can take direct admission to SNU if you have appeared for Jee or Wbjee entrance examination. In case you haven't appeared for them no worries as SNU conducts it own entrance examination which is done in two rounds — one is the mcq test which includes basic topic physics chemistry maths and general aptitude and the second one is an interview round. Now clearing these two rounds is not really a big job as the difficulty of these examination is really easy as compared to Jee or Wbjee. Now also you should have to have a minimum of 60 percent marks in your class X and xii boards examination which the basic cutoff criteria set by our college for the admission. Overall i would say the admission process is quite smooth in SNU.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is decent like any other college. For every class of approx 45-50 students there is a teacher. And the teachers are really approachable and they are actually friendly with the students. While most of the faculties are friendly and teaches really good Some of the faculties are also there who teach in a very boring way and will only focus on completing the syllabus rather than providing practical knowledge which is needed in the industry level. Now talking of the examination, so there are 4 examination conducted every semester — the classtest1 which of 10 marks then we have our midsemesters which of 30 marks then we have our classtest2 which again of 10 marks and then finally the sems end with the endsem examination which is of 50 marks. Well talking of the difficulty level of the exams they are set at a moderate level neither too hard nor too easy. Anyone who have their basics cleared can manage acing the examination. So only a small percentage of students fail to clear the exams.
Night Life
Now as SNU doesn't have a hostel of its own and also it is a day college there is nothing called nightlife here in snu. The only places where you could hangout with our friends are the food court or canteen present inside the college and outside the college you could hangout in the chai tapris nearby or the ecopark which nearly located from the college campus. Well the area near th campus is safe both during day and night time . Also in case of medical emergency there are two major hospitals near the campus — th ohio hospital and the tata medical centre. Even though our college doesn't provide any hostel facility you can definitely look for pgs or rental flats near the campus. So accommodations won't be a problem too.
