Course Curriculum Overview
My interest for mechanical engineering and IIT delhi has one of the best mechaincal department are the main reason and influence for me to choose IIT Delhi mechanical engineering. The curriculum prepare us for a real-world application by having deep knowledge courses and good, understanding and qualified faculties and Lab waorks are also very good. These also provide paths for future academic pusuits. The curriculum according to me can be improved if from first year the courses are completely relevant to one's branch rather than common courses for all first year students. The frequency and timings of exams are very accurate as this gives enough time to learn and prepare while giving good amount of time to vacations and breaks. The difficulty is also accurate enough as it challenges student to push them to prepare and get good grades.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies came and offer paid internships to students according to thier CGPs. Companies includes Amazon, Google, Microsoft, McKinsey and Boston consulting group. The roles offerd were Software developer, Data analyst, research position to consulting and managment. These internships are of 6-9 months. The companies give challenging tasks like if a student is in tech he has to do software development, machine learning, etc. And if a student is in consulting than he has to do case study and client based projects.
Placement Experience
The students become eligible from 6th semester for pre-placements offer. Some of the top recruiters were Microsoft, HCL technologies, Accenture, Jaguar Land Rover India Limited, McKinsey & Company, Rakuten Mobile, etc. Around 1300 offers were made and 260 PPOs and 30 international offers in 2023 batch. The highest package in 2023 was 2.5 Cr per annum. The average package was around 20 LPA. The percentage of students getting placements was around 89% in 2023. My plans are either getting a placement or continue further studies in mechanical department.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yearly fees depends on category for EWS and ST/SC. The registration fees of JOSAA was 17500. One time payment was 8150 Other charges were 6250. Refundable caution deposit was 8000. So The total fee payable was 22400 for the semester (except this semester as the fees submitted to Josaa was adjusted in this (5000 for JOSAA only). There final was 12500.) Because of scholarship for category students, the tution fees is relaxed i.e. I was relaxed tution fees of 100000. My other batcmates from Genral pay 100000 extra from me.
Campus Life
There are majorly two fests, Rendezvous (cultural fest) held in October and Tryst (Technical fest) held in January. range and accessibility is very good in the library as there are wide variety of options also including course books and also journals. The facilities like projector board along with blackboard and centralised AC along with good funiture, lighting and charging ports. The sports and extracurricular culture is very good and competitive as there is General Championsip (GC) for sports and BRCA for cultural competition. the student-run social group and student portal is BSW and there are many clubs like dancing, music for cultural and roboitics, formula racing for technical clubs. They are very helpful to provide knowledge and skills other than academics.
Hostel Facilities
The facilities like beds, cupboards, HDMI ports, tables, chairs and wall side shelves and propre lighting and ventilition are provided to every student. The menu and meal quality is decent and very good on some occasions like Gandhi jayanti, Independece day, etc. The registration process was very smooth and easy which includes fee payments and documents verification and room allocation.
Admission
for EWS I applied for IISC banglore (BSc. Physics) and IIST Thiruvananthapuram (Aerospace Engineering 4years). I choose this college because of the reputation and placements over others. Also, others were very far form my hometown compare to IIT Delhi. I did not get rejection as I got ddmission letter form both the colleges. The admission process starts form filling choices on JOSAA platform after clearing JEE Advanced exam and according to rank and preferences we get colleges. After coming to this college, first I enrolled in the hostel alloted to me. After two days the college registration process starts, there after checking all valid documents I was enrolled in the batch 2024 and got college ID. The eligibility was clearing JEE Advanced with appropriate cutoff marks. The most preffered exam to take admission in is JEE Advanced. The cutoff was 54 for SC/ST and 98 for EWS and 108 for General category. The overall admission process was smooth.
Faculty
Some faculty members are very good at their fields while some are not good according to me. Faculties are always approachable.I don't know about the exact ration but it is not that bad. I like prof. Ashish Chiplunkar a COL100 teacher and prof. Lallan Kumar a ELL101 teacher they both are good at explaining and problem solving. There are not any particular faculty which I dislike. There are 2 exams in a semester (Minors and Majors). There difficulty are at moderate level while some courses have difficult exams. The number of students fail is not known till now as the exams are still yet to happen. The course curriculum is relevant enough.
Night Life
The nightlife in the campus is very good. There are many hangout places like many cafeterias, lawns and SAC (student activity centre) and night messes. They do not close in night. The in timings of hostel and campus is 24x7. These places helps in unwinding after a day of hectic classes. The whole college campus is safe to roam around at night as there are street lights everywhere. These experiences shapes very good memories and helps is relieving the other pressures.
