Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is quite good and industry relevant . The focus is more on building of concepts and their application to solving real life problems , rather than rote learning and scoring marks. The curriculum is also flexible with elective subjects in the 3rd year . However , a few topics may a bit irrelevant that needs to be removed . The exams are held 2 times in each semester , midsems and endsems . Midsems are of 30 marks and cover 60% of the syllabus , while endsems are of 100 marks with full syllabus. They are a bit difficult due to application questions which require critical and out of the box thinking . Overall , the curriculum and exam structure is very good.

Internships Opportunities

4

Various internship opportunities are available from the third year onwards. Companies like Microsoft , amazon , oracle etc for tech roles and core companies like bechtel , cesc etc for core opportunities take interns from our colleges.

Placement Experience

4

The campus placements are very good . Our campus has a placement cell which assists the students in getting placements .Students become eligible for internships from 3rd year onwards , while the campus placements happen in the 4th year . Big MNCs and companies like Google , Microsoft , Oracle , Texas Instruments etc visit our college. For almost all branches , about 95% students get placed . The packages are quite good . The average and highest package for electrical department are around 10-11 LPA and 35-40 LPA respectively , with major recruiters being CESC , Texas instruments , Bechtel etc . The average and highest package for CSE department is 20 LPA and 65-70 LPA respectively . Year after year , the placemets at JU have been impressive.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees at Jadavpur University , Kolkata is very less. Due to this , its ROI (return of investment) is the best in India . For all courses (other than Information Technology) , the fees is around Rs. 3000 annually . The total fees for four years is just Rs.12000 and it includes all the tution fees , regisration fees , developement fees etc.

Campus Life

4

The campus is lively at all times . Cultural fests name is Sanskriti and happens each year during March. The techfest of the electrical department , Convolution , includes many interesting events and activities. These helps us to connect to students of different colleges and to grow our contacts. Our library is stocked with all necessary books , journals , research papers and other things. Football , cricket , badminton competitions are held each year. There are various clubs like Finance club , Photography club , astroscience club, Code club etc which help us to pursue our hobbies and passion along with the academics. The students also have a faculty and we take an active part in decisions taking place in the campus.

Admission

I tried to get admission to other colleges like IITs, NITs, BITS etc. I secured a rank of about 14k in JEE Advanced and 7k in JEE Mains but was not getting a suitable college+branch combination in the IITs and NITs. I secured a rank of 855 in WBJEE and easily got admission in the electrical department at JU. JU ranks 12 in engineering , 9 in universities and 17 in overall category as of NIRF 2024. It is also very good for placements and research opportunities .Also , fee structure is quite less and it is near my house , so was very suitable for me . The admission process was also a smooth one . We has to report at JU with necessary documents and we got a provisonal admission form . After successful fee payment , i got admitted in the electrical department of JU. Most students prefer the CSE or IT department due the high packages. The cutoff of CSE is 150 , IT is 400 , EE 1100 rank as of 2023 in JU based on WBJEE exam . So , it is quite competitive to get admission here.

Faculty

4

The faculty is very helpul and skilled . The teachers are very learned and experienced in their respective fields and also have many contacts in the industry . They focus more on understanding and application of concepts , rather than mugging them up and scoring marks . The curriculum also includes the relevant topics needed in the industry . The subjects are a bit difficult and cumbersome , but are manageable. There are 2 exams for each subject in a semester , midsems and endsems . The midsems are of 30 marks and have about 60% syllabus , while endsems are of 100 marks with full syllabus . The exams are a bit difficult , as they are application based . However , most of the students pass the exams . Each semester generally has 6 subjects and 2 labs , all of which are relevant.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Regarding examination the frequency is generally acceptable but the timing sometimes overlaps with project submission, creating unnecessary pressure. Exam duration is of 3hrs They should focus more on building projects which can be helpful for students Labs are modern and well equipped In terms of teaching methods a shift towards interactive learning, problem based assignments, hackathons and collaborative projects could make the learning experience more impactful. More emphasis on research and innovation at the undergraduate level could also encourage academic pursuits.

I was actually inclined to take this course so not really an influence of any aspect. The curriculum is pretty helpful and the additional competitions such as hackathons and codathons are really helpful. the frequency of the exam is consisteny the timing is provided when the academic calendar is out.
