What Students Say
Likes
- The anti ragging policy of this college is one of the best decisions of the administration. The way they are maintaining the labs properly like with modern machines is also very good.
- The campus is vibrant and it is very close to the nature. The seniors are very friendly and they are always available to ask for any kind of advice. The placements here is going nice even if there is a reccession going on.
- The professors are very good and they are very experienced but the teaching method they use is outdated. The faculty advisor is very active and friendly and he always tries his best to make things easy for us.
Dislikes
- The quality of food is terrible. There are a lot of stray dogs.
- The canteen staff don't maintain a very good level of hygine.
- The stationary products are really expensive here.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is well structured and the reference material is properly defined. The labs are maintained properly so that part of curriculam increases the application of the theory for industrial needs. Then we have to make our own projects from scratch so that will boost our experience and test our knowledge. The teaching methods can be digitalised and with the use of 3d models they would be able to explain some complicated and hard to relate topics very easily. After every 3 to 4 weeks the professers take a class test. And after every two months the mid sem and end sem are conducted. The difficulty level of class test is low as anyone who has attended all classes will be able to answer all of them very easily. But the mid sem and end sem papers are generally very hard. The viva questions are also very complicated.
Internships Opportunities
Any student can apply for internship drom 3rd sem itself.Companies like The Goldman sachs, Lenskart, many Fintech companies, Boat, Bharatpe, infosys and many other startups. The projects completely depend on the company and the role you have been given. Like for a tech company they may ask you to make the user interface of the app or the front end of a website. For Fintech companies the projects are more about a company's buisness model and how to improve it and all. For core companies it mostly the work is related to work under the head engineer. But there is one thing common in each internship that you will have to submit your report at the end of the internship to the company and to the college as well. As it is neccassary to do an internship.
Placement Experience
Any B.tech student becomes eligible for campus placements in his/her 7th semester. If he/she is a M.tech student then it is in 9th semester. The number of offers made in the first round was more than 500 and the number will keep increasing. There were a lot of companies who visited in my college like bajaj, TCS,WIPRO, Goldman sac,Nvidia and there are many more. The profiles offered were full stack developer, Data analyst, semiconductor engineer and etc.The percentage of students getting placements has decreased in recent years due to recession but it is still more than 70%.My plans after getting a degree is to join a company which at that time will be working on a AI based robot, There are some companies working on it now but after few years the number of companies in this domain will increase exponentially.
Fees and Financial Aid
I will be paying 200000 yearly paying fees, caution fees is 1500, admission fees is 10000, lab charges are 4000, and other compulsory charges are 15000. There are scholarships based on caste and income crieteria. For the students of OBC and Gen ews category and those whose income is less than 500000 p.a. the tution fees is reduced to one third of it's original amount. For the students of SC/ST/ PWD categories the tution fees is 0 but the other charges and hall charges are applicable. There is no merit cum scholarship for the first year but from the second year the top performers from each course recieve 10000 scholarship along with a chance to attend a international seminar.
Campus Life
The campus is awesome with very beautifully maintained natural elements with some amazingly designed buildings. Since my campus is larger than 2000 acres the road network is also very developed. It has multiple fields for every sport and they are properly maintained. My college has multiple libraries. Each hall has it's own library , canteen, mess, small other shops for other basic needs. There are multiple markets and parks. The central library is the extremely big with a very large collection of books. It has 2 digital libraries and the whole library has a centralised AC system. It is well connected to wifi. On normal days it is open from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. but during exam days it is open for 24x7. If we want to request some new books we can write an application and get that within a week. There are many clubs in our college ranging from tech to cultural. IIT KGP has the largest number of societies among all IIT's. Along with this there is a student body representative too.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel room is a mess. They will give you a bed a small wall attached almirah and a table. The fan is extremly slow. The food quality is not good. They put a lot of oil into the food every day. And the menu is weird it only has only unhealthy food. Registration for this is done through the erp portal which is provided once you are alloted the seat of this college. The price of the hostel is low and the facilities they are giving should be considered value for money.
Admission
Since i was preparing for jee and it was going good so i did not applied for any other college. The admission in my college is done through josaa councelling and only those who have cleared jee advanced are alloted a seat. The branchwise rank requirement is available online. The overall admission process for the students is very smooth since most of the procceses is completed online.
Faculty
the faculty to student ratio is dependent on the course. If i would want to generalize it then i would say it is 1:80. As some branches have 150 students and some only have 40. I really like Pradeep mandal. He is the professor in electronic systems which is a new course but the way he teaches is awesome. And i don't like soumyajit dev. He is the professor of pdsand the way he teaches is so boring. He just randomly starts explain some things which are not in our syllabus. I am in ECE and i had 5 exams for mid-sem. And i have 3 labs so for endsem i will have 3 viva and 5 theory exams. Since i am in first year i would not have to make a project but from next year i will have to submit that too.
