Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is totally practical based as it is required in our medical field . We are taught Anatomy on cadavers for better visualisation and understanding. We have several practicals which we either perform on ourself ( or by ourselfs ) or on others , like measuring BP , Pulse , Jerk reflexes etc on others . We often have exams both theory and practicals to keep in check with our understanding of the subject.

Internships Opportunities

4

We have a 12 month internship compulsory for the Undergraduates to get the degree . We have to bear with long hours in the wards and clinics during internship . Here in IPGMER we get to see a variety of patients and get to learn about the clinical cases that we also read in books often . We have brilliant and top ranking PGTs and their guidance plays a major role . Patient load is high .

Fees and Financial Aid

Admission fee + Caution money = 2000/- Semester Fee ( twice a year ) = 4500 Total 4.5 yr (9 semester ) So total fee = 2000 + 9*4500= 42.5k Hostel fee is 12/- per month therefore 144/- per annum . Bond money for entire MBBS course is 1 Lakh

Campus Life

5

We have several fests throughout the year like Annual Academic fest , Cultural fests , Freshers , All pujas are also celebrated in our college with zeal and zest . We have many sports events prior to fests with even span for months long like Cricket , Tug of war, Table tennis , badminton, volleyball, kabaddi ,etc

Admission

I had applied for several Top AIIMS like AIIMS DELHI , Bhubaneswar , Jodhpur , Patna , Rishikesh and Raipur . But since cut offs were too high i didn't get seat in any of them . We have AIIMS Kalyani in our state as well . But i preferred IPGMER Kolkata over that because it has more patient exposure and is quite old in terms of establishment. Teachers are also experienced . To get into Government medical college like IPGMER kolkata we need to clear NEET UG with a good rank . Cut offs vary every year . But you are on the safe side if you are under 6k All india rank because even if you dont get seat in All india Couseling there are high chances that you will surely get one through State counselling. But it always depends on State rank as well . For admission they verify your documents and a particular amount of fee is submitted. They process is smooth .

Faculty

4

We all the 200 students used to sit in a single classroom during the theory lectures . A single teachers would teach using powerpoint presentation on two big screens . In First year we had three subjects i.e Anatomy , Biochemistry and Physiology . For each subject we had a minimum of 7-8 teachers who would teach on alternative days according to the topics given to them . Relationship between teachers and student is good. For anatomy we have our best Dr. Hironmoy Sir . He preferred using chalk and board fir teaching which i personally preferred to be best . Throughout the year we have some Part completion tests after completing chapters . We had three 100 mark Internal Assessment and one Final exam ( we call it MB ) Standard of questions are good . They are not too easy or not too difficult. The one who have studied throughout year can excel easily :)

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is quite well maintained till 3rd year but the final year syllabus is too vast to complete within 1 year. I feel duration has to be increased a bit. The process of acquiring knowledge entirely depends on the individual pursuing this course as there is no spoonfeeding as in other courses.

Placement Experience:

If you can pass the exam that is very tough to pass if you're not serious at all, you'll be able enough to get into any nursing home or you can start treating people staring your own clinic. After 4.5 years you get the internship program that is mandatory to do for all where you get a salary of 32000 per month which is highest among all states . If you manage to be in the top 100 students of the batch of 250 you get one year job in the same hospital with a fees of 50000 and just 48 hours duty per week. If you do nursing home you can get around 70-90k per month based on how much you spent time on work .
