Likes
- Return on Investment here is very excellent.
- Faculty is awesome and senior-junior relationship is very healthy. Campus life is awesome.
- There are many opportunities to explore for students and placements are nearly over 90% in my University.
Dislikes
- Infrastructure is a little out-dated with respect to other private colleges.
- Male to female ratio is about 10:2, which I consider to be very poor.
- The course curriculum for Engineering students is B.E. , which is outdated with respect to B.Tech degree in other Engineering Colleges.
Course Curriculum Overview
I was very much interested in Engineering and kept it as much only option going into college-life. So, when I got Electrical at Jadavpur University, there was no second-thinking. The curriculum is very fantastic and prepares students well for their real life applications. The frequency and timings of exam are also made flexible here, according to students wishes, which is very unique here.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year-wise total fees is Rs 2,400 per year for my course, so total Rs 9,600 for 4 years. For category students other than general, I mean for TFW students, it is free. Moreover, since our University is Governmental, so all costs are very minimal and moreover Scholarships like Vivekananda Scholarships are applicable here. Placements are fantastic here and college environment is very healthy.
Campus Life
The annual fest here is Sanskriti, held around the time of April and the technical fest here is Srijan, around the time of March. There are various other fests held as well. There is a Central Library as well as respective departmental libraries for students. All students are encouraged for sports and extracurricular activities. There are also many student run clubs here, which are run by the students and for the students.
Admission
I also got admission to NIT Durgapur Mechanical Engineering by clearing Jee mains, but I preferred Jadavpur University Electrical Engineering, which I got through Wbjee Exam. My preference was due to better placements and more economical from point of view of fees payment. Cut-offs in Wbjee exam for Jadavpur University is the highest compared to other colleges with the same exam.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio is nearly 1:5 and Faculty-Student relationship is very good here. Professors are very much approachable. Exams are like 2 CT's and 1 semester exam for every subject in all semesters. Exams are a little difficult, but are very much relevant to course curriculum. In case a student fails to clear a exam in 1 attempt, there are provisions for supplimentary exams.
Other Applied Colleges
National Institute of Technology - [NIT] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Mechanical Engineering)
Placements were better at Jadavpur University.
