Course Curriculum Overview

4

NIT Srinagar's curriculum is well-structured, aligning with industry trends and offering a strong mix of core subjects and electives, especially in engineering fields. It emphasizes hands-on experience through internships and projects. However, some areas like soft skills and emerging technologies could be improved. The research focus in postgraduate programs is solid, but lab resources are limited.

Internships Opportunities

4

NIT Srinagar offers internships through its departments, research projects with faculty, and industry collaborations. The Training and Placement Cell also helps organize these opportunities. But you will not get much opportunities for paid internships in core branches like civil, mechanical and electrical.

Placement Experience

3.5

College Placements are pretty good for CSE/IT/Mechanical and Metallurgy & Material Science Branch. After 5th semester students become eligible for placement. Every year more than two hundred companies visits here and for mechanical, CSE and IT more than 80% students got placed. Highest package of year 2024 was 39LPA at Autodesk for software engineer profile. I got a job from campus placement so I will go for it.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fee for the B.Tech program is approximately INR 6 lakhs for the entire course duration. You need to pay 63100rs per semester as tuition fee This includes tuition and other fees over the four years. But the students belonging to category of SC/ST/PWD and having income certificate of below 1lakh will get 100% tuition fee relaxation. Apart from it students having income less than 5 lakh per annum will get 70% fee relaxation on tuition fee. The reserved category candidate can get scholarship through National Scholarship Portal.

Campus Life

4

My experience at NIT Srinagar has been positive, especially due to the strong social engagement through clubs like ASME and cultural activities. The infrastructure is decent, with improving hostels and labs, though some areas like sports facilities could be better. The Mechanical Engineering department stands out for its strong placement record, especially with PSUs regularly recruiting. The annual tech fest of nit Srinagar is TECHVAGANZA and cultural fest is Rang-e-Chinar.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostel facilities at NIT Srinagar are basic but adequate. There are around seven hostels, and the fees are approximately INR 8000 per semester (excluding mess charges which is approx 20000 per semester). While the rooms provide the essentials, the quality of Wi-Fi and some infrastructure might not be up to the mark compared to top-tier institutions. The hostels offer a communal experience, and the food is average but manageable. There are around 9 boys and 4 girls hostel. 1 more mega hostel is there which is in construction phase currently.

Admission

I chose NIT Srinagar primarily because of its strong Mechanical Engineering program, which consistently attracts public sector units (PSUs) for placements, offering good job prospects. Additionally, the location provides a peaceful study environment, which I found appealing(After 2019 things are completely changed).Compared to other colleges, the combination of a reputable Mechanical department, placement opportunities, and the serene setting made NIT Srinagar the best fit for me.

Faculty

3.5

Most of the faculties are good in respect of mechanical engineering branch of Nit Srinagar. Apart from mechanical college offers CSE, Information technology, electrical, electronics and communication, chemical, civil and metallurgy and materials science courses. There will be two written exams for each theory subject mid (26 marks) and end (50marks) semester exams. Rest 24 marks will be for internal assessment will include your attendance, assignment and quiz.

Placement Experience:

The Placements opportunities are fair as they placement is not good. The average placement is 5 l.p.a which is very low. So you have to prepare for off campus placement. The College is slightly cut off from the top companies and they are not visiting our college from covide period. Thus placement is at not good track.

Highest package is around 17 LPA and average package is around 5 LPA . Almost 30 percent students get placement. My plan is to get off campus placement.
