Remarks

The management is somewhat slow working and needs a reform in their working style for proper and timely disposal of services.

Entrance Preview

I opted for Nit Srinagar for two reasons One because it was in my home state Jammu and Kashmir and second because it was offering me a specialization in Mtech which no other college was offering at that Gate Score and I had few friends already studying in the college

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum requires revision with the introduction of some ongoing present scenarios in engineering and technology as the curriculum is somewhat old-fashioned but still better than many institutes and offering a variety of advanced topics.

Internships Opportunities

No internship as such at masters level but yes it does provide internship at the bachelors level and I don't think any stipend is given for that purpose.

Placement Experience

1.5

The placement record is very bad especially in the CIVIL and Mechanical Department as very few or none of the students is placed but as far as other branches are concerned like computer electronics electrical chemical, etc the placement record is fair with more than half of students placed.

College Events

4

The events celebrated include alumni meet, Sports week, freshers orientation, Techfest named Techvenga is also celebrated sometimes. Other small events are also organized from time to time by students and college administration. Students do participate in these events in good numbers

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is the bit on the higher side 75k for Btech per semester and 40k for m.tech per semester which is quite expensive but relaxation is given to students belonging to families below poverty line and scholarships are also made available to them to compensate the fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

I was availed of GATE Scholarship of 12400 per month which is given by MHRD to all gate qualified students.

Campus Life

2.5

The campus life is good and the students love the snowfall in winters. The gender ratio is very low with very few girls in the campus as compared to a number of boys and the diversity is present there from Kashmir to Kanyakumari students from most of the state's study here.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostels are good and maintained well and cleaning is done on daily basis which is quite impressive and electricity is also present most of the time except in winters and the mess food is not of that good quality but certain steps are being made by mess committee with the support of students to improve the quality of food in mess.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes, senior students are always helpful in showing the right path as their advice can let one succeed academically as well as intellectually.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is 30 marks in minor and 60 marks in major and 10 for internal assessment. In minor, there are most probably three questions of 10 marks each and in a major, there are 4 questions of 15 mark each and the level of examination is above par.

Admission

First, we need to clear entrance exam of GATE for admission in Mtech but the admission in BTech is based on IIT-JEE exam score. After clearing the required exam we need to undergo counseling for admission for which a body is established separately for both at BTech and Mtech level. In my case it was CCMT.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty is well experienced and highly qualified from the reputed institutes of a national and international level. The faculty is also of very helping nature when it comes to doubt clearing but at Btech level most of the times contractual faculty is available for teaching which may not be good.

A large no. Of students are hired by these companies with a minimum package of 2 lac per anum. The percentage of students getting placed are 30%. I am looking for job opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course to gain information about computers very deeply and to fulfill my dream. The student-faculty ratio was 1:20 i.e. 1 teacher in a 20-student class, according to me, this is the better ratio in terms of faculty and student ratio. Masters + PhD (NET or NET/JRF or SET). Exams were taken on time and the passing of the exams was at a moderate level not too easy or not too difficult.

Placement Experience:

As the institute is in its initial phase that does not mean that you won't receive any placement. The college placement committee is fully supportive and if you are a hardworking person you will receive a good placement. The committee is able to invite good companies for placement. Companies like Amazon, Arista Networks, The Captury, DESAY S V Automotive, Toppr, HealthifyMe, L&T, Cognizant, Indian Air Force (IAF), etc visited the campus to participate in the placement drive of the college. The highest package for our batch went up to 45 LPA and the average package was around 12 LPA.

Placement Experience:

There were only a few opportunities for students to appear in various Campus recruitment drives due to the conditions prevalent in the state of J&K. However, the campus did witness some PSU's towards the end of my 7th semester. Companies like HPCL, IOCL and GAIL visited primarily for recruitment of Mechanical engineering students. Although some four students from Civil Engineering also got placed. The recruitment process included three stages: 1. Selection of 3 or 4 students for group discussion, based on CGPA scored. 2. GROUP DISCUSSION 3.INTERVIEW

Remarks:

Overall it is a good college with respect to the quality of faculties and the library. Students are provided with a good reading room with one separated from the other by a board. Still, I would say the college management need to work a bit harder and address the gender inequality issues which girls are facing here.
