Remarks

Overall it is a good college with respect to the quality of faculties and the library. Students are provided with a good reading room with one separated from the other by a board. Still, I would say the college management need to work a bit harder and address the gender inequality issues which girls are facing here.

Entrance Preview

I got admission in NIT Srinagar because I qualified for IIT JAM. Its location is the first hindrance which causes lower no. of students to opt for it. Secondly, the hype caused by media which makes it the most dangerous place to send their children to. To make things clear, I guarantee that students safety is of prime importance to this institution. We do see a lot of destructive activities going on outside but it never causes problems to the ones who are inside the campus. We are prohibited to go out in case of strikes or hartals.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

You will get a syllabus and your teachers will cover the portion from the books which would be given in the reference section(they may even select any random book of their choice which they might think is better than the one which is being asked to refer). One can issue books from the library after paying a caution deposit which differs for every course. You need to be very imaginative and prepare models on your own which allow students to push their limits.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, my institution does provide internships, most of which are unofficial, i.e. you have to contact the teachers by yourself and request them to use their laboratories and not the general one in which the college itself invites students. The cause of stipend is vague.

Placement Experience

4

There is a lot of scope for B.Tech students. M.Tech people have only a few since most of them later go to pursue Ph.D. But I have heard that some companies don't prefer this institution due to the difficulty to reach here. Still, there are a lot more companies and every year they hire a lot of students from here.

College Events

4

My institution celebrates a host of festivals be it a Hindu Muslim or Christian festival; Dusshera, Diwali, Holi, Janmashtami, Christmas. In addition, several conferences are also conducted here by various departments which raises the status of the department and at a personal level improves the profile of the host professor.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is lesser than that compared to other NITs. For M.Tech, it is in the 40s and for M.Sc. it is in 20s per semester. I am not quite sure about the B.tech batch. Mess fee is 17000 per semester as on 12th November 2018 which involves the fee for WiFi, Laundry, and the food charge.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, the college does provide scholarships for the students who are from a financially low background. There is one J&K bank branch here inside the campus. If required students can take a loan from there

Campus Life

3

It is the most beautiful campus in comparison to all the IITs and NITs, needn't say due to its a location in Kashmir. You find at most only two floored buildings here due to its a location near to the Dal lake; the texture of the soil makes it difficult to build higher. So the classrooms are spread all over the campus and it makes a beautiful sight to look at with round rocks thoroughly glued to the walls of the classrooms. The gender ration is the only disappointing thing. Only 250 girls in some 4000 students. We have a big enough ground here and students play a lot of games; cricket, volleyball, football just to name a few. The NIT also conducts several other programs which involve the local schools and colleges like the INSPIRE programme conducted for school level students. Students from all over India come to study here.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

As for the girl's hostel, the hostel is in the renovation stage. The no.of female students have increased by two folds this year which demanded renovation of the existing unused buildings. Facilities are good: two-seaters for the match and 3 seaters or 4 seaters for btech. Bathrooms are well provided the freshers don't make them messy. The workers mark their presence every day and do clean them properly; you need to clean your rooms by yourself. The boys' hostel is quite good and the floorings are all marbled. They have a separate block for every B tech year. Their mess food is also good. Both veg and no veg food is provided every other day. A few Ph.D. do live outside the campus and the cost depends on if you are a local or a non-local student. Mostly non-locals are charged more.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni provide a lot of help to the departments either in cash or in kind. They have made a network in social networking sites where they discuss the problems and the required ways to deal with it

Exam Structure

Exam structure varies from course to course and the level of the course. Preference is equally given to theory and numerical in B.Tech level. The m.tech level is a step above it. Neither are the exams too frequent nor they allow you to chill out. They give you enough time to prepare for every subject.

Admission

First you have to qualify JAM. Then you need to fill forms of IITs(incase yor rank is within 600) and NITs(comes under CCMN. incase your rank is above 600). There is no such restriction on filling the forms. One can fill whichever form they like. but be smart and spend smartly. Both IITs and NITs conduct allotments called counseling. Basically there are three rounds. The final round in NITs is called NSR for National Spot Round. You have to fill a separte form for that and you need to pay extra(i paid 2000 for CCMN registration and 15000 for NSR). If alloted in NSR, you need or needn't join but you won't get the money back. If not alloted, you will get back the amount. You should go to the site of the institute and check for admission procedure. Here, we M.Sc. students had no provision to fill forms online but we could pay the fee in favour of the institute. If so, immediately contact the Deans or whomsoever concerned with admission procedure(will be given in it's site) and do as directed or report in the institute immediately (within 4-5 days). If you don't report, you will probably be charged for being late and I barely doubt if there is any chance for cancellation of admission. One additional information and the most important one is your prepaid sim won't work here in Kashmir. You need to take one sim from here or convert your prepaid sim to postpaid from your hometown. Otherwise you will be stranded in the midst of a bunch of strangers with no idea of what to do(like what happened to us. We couldn't even make online payments).

Faculty

3.5

Every teacher has a separate cabin and they are accessible at any time from 9:30to 4:30. Even when they are not available, they make you feel free to contact them over the phone. They are highly qualified mostly from the top IITs like IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course to gain information about computers very deeply and to fulfill my dream. The student-faculty ratio was 1:20 i.e. 1 teacher in a 20-student class, according to me, this is the better ratio in terms of faculty and student ratio. Masters + PhD (NET or NET/JRF or SET). Exams were taken on time and the passing of the exams was at a moderate level not too easy or not too difficult.

Placement Experience:

As the institute is in its initial phase that does not mean that you won't receive any placement. The college placement committee is fully supportive and if you are a hardworking person you will receive a good placement. The committee is able to invite good companies for placement. Companies like Amazon, Arista Networks, The Captury, DESAY S V Automotive, Toppr, HealthifyMe, L&T, Cognizant, Indian Air Force (IAF), etc visited the campus to participate in the placement drive of the college. The highest package for our batch went up to 45 LPA and the average package was around 12 LPA.

There were only a few opportunities for students to appear in various Campus recruitment drives due to the conditions prevalent in the state of J&K. However, the campus did witness some PSU's towards the end of my 7th semester. Companies like HPCL, IOCL and GAIL visited primarily for recruitment of Mechanical engineering students. Although some four students from Civil Engineering also got placed. The recruitment process included three stages: 1. Selection of 3 or 4 students for group discussion, based on CGPA scored. 2. GROUP DISCUSSION 3.INTERVIEW
