Course Curriculum Overview

4

I wanted to do masters and the specialization was in the subject which is sought out nowadays. The ratio is 1:32 , a good one. The faculty is highly qualified ,with almost all being phds along with Gate, net/set qualified. The teaching method is both theoretical and practical, with good labs. The exams are made according to the outlined syllabus, but the faculty has high expectations from the students.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

The university itself will provide internships in their labs, but may contact other companies to give the students the same. Some students did their internship in the state meteorological department instead of the one-semester project and were able to pass the final exam. The students are given the title of associates or interns, unpaid though.

Placement Experience

2.5

Students in the last year of their courses become eligible for campus placements. The companies that visit are conglomerate it , techmahindra, iquasar, bqe, almuqeet, jk cement and others. A large no. Of students are hired by these companies with a minimum package of 2 lac per anum. The percentage of students getting placed are 30%. I am looking for job opportunities.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee is good, with the even semester having almost 43000 fee and the odd ones having 30000 fee. The fee is hiked accordingly, but not by much amount. Various scholarships are provided, but mostly to the low income section of the society. Some examples are like the minority scholarship, indira gandhi scholarship for single girl child and others. There is special department for job assistance I. e center for acreer counselling and placement, that hosts jobs from various companies within and outside the state.

Campus Life

4.5

The social life at the university is excellent. Various fests are concluded over the year, mostly of young entrepreneurs of the valley. These events are mostly held during the summer. Also, many cultural events with young stars are also held. There are separate libraries for each department and there is also the Allama iqbal library, the biggest in kashmir, which is open 24/7 for all students. The libraries have books related to the courses. The classroom has whiteboard along with projector. Different types of inter and intra-department activities are held throughout the whole year like different sport matches, seminars, debates etc. As per my knowledge, some groups according to shared interests are formed but by students only like iot club.

Admission

The eligibility of the course is via GATE and entrance exam . The cut off is not that high as compared to IITs and NITs, but still is good enough. Application forms can be easily found on the university website, with a reasonable fee. The application portable is open for almost 1 month and maybe extended if the students ask for it. There are reservation categories, one seat for each. I think the process for admission is fair enough. Those who qualify Gate receive a stipend and those who didn't, can get admission via entrance examination.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course to gain information about computers very deeply and to fulfill my dream. The student-faculty ratio was 1:20 i.e. 1 teacher in a 20-student class, according to me, this is the better ratio in terms of faculty and student ratio. Masters + PhD (NET or NET/JRF or SET). Exams were taken on time and the passing of the exams was at a moderate level not too easy or not too difficult.

Placement Experience:

As the institute is in its initial phase that does not mean that you won't receive any placement. The college placement committee is fully supportive and if you are a hardworking person you will receive a good placement. The committee is able to invite good companies for placement. Companies like Amazon, Arista Networks, The Captury, DESAY S V Automotive, Toppr, HealthifyMe, L&T, Cognizant, Indian Air Force (IAF), etc visited the campus to participate in the placement drive of the college. The highest package for our batch went up to 45 LPA and the average package was around 12 LPA.

Placement Experience:

There were only a few opportunities for students to appear in various Campus recruitment drives due to the conditions prevalent in the state of J&K. However, the campus did witness some PSU's towards the end of my 7th semester. Companies like HPCL, IOCL and GAIL visited primarily for recruitment of Mechanical engineering students. Although some four students from Civil Engineering also got placed. The recruitment process included three stages: 1. Selection of 3 or 4 students for group discussion, based on CGPA scored. 2. GROUP DISCUSSION 3.INTERVIEW

Remarks:

Overall it is a good college with respect to the quality of faculties and the library. Students are provided with a good reading room with one separated from the other by a board. Still, I would say the college management need to work a bit harder and address the gender inequality issues which girls are facing here.
