Course Curriculum Overview

2

BCom is not very relevant in terms of employability. I wish i had known this earlier then i would've gone for BBA. As far as BCom is concerned I would say it's like a general bachelor's degree which enables you to do some kind of another studies which requires bachelors from a recognised university.

Placement Experience

1

Our college has no history of providing campus placements. But in our time, College had done a collaboration with a private firm which provides placements. Name of the companies includea - 1. Air IQ Pvt ltd 2. Asporea HR consultant pvt ltd. Etc I got 2 opportunities, one of them made an offer of 1.8LPA. Talking about the employability BCom is like a general degree, it can provide and edge for your higher studies but can't promise you a good white collar job. One needs to do some kind of specialisation or diploma courses to learn the key skills required for a job role after their graduation.

Fees and Financial Aid

I've not faced increment of fee in the past 3 years. But since it's a govt. regulated body, I think they might increase the price by 5% in every 5 years. Again it's just an assumption, it might vary from time to time. Complete cost of course was somewhere around 30 - 40. I can't recall the actual figures. But i can surely give you an estimated value. Which was around 30 - 40k. College was not providing any kinds of scholarship, however there were some sort of govt. scholarship were their as a financial aid. SVMCM and OISIS was two of the main scholarship program which were given to students as per their qualifications. I got selected by 2 of them. One of them was paying me 96000 in an year. And got rejected by the another at later statges of interview.

Campus Life

2.5

I had a terrible experience as an individual their. Because students used to carry their attitude along with them. Talking about the accessibility of books, our college has a big library full of books and it contains all the necessary books. No technical provisions were their im the classroom. Not even a smart board to explain complex topics. On the name of extracurricular activities we had NCC and cricket tournaments. These activities has been organised by the college itself. No such clubs or students portals are available in our college.

Admission

Admission process was solely based upon the marks we've secured in our 12th standard. Now students need to apply on WBCAP.IN. Application fee is somewhat around 3600 rupees and dates are announced somewhere between july August Reservation benifits can be taken by the students having reservation status. But I couldn't able to avail due to the lack of certificate. University exams are taken half yearly and before the university exams students had to go through internal exams for assignment marks of 15. Based upon the internal exams marks and the attendance, teachers used to distribute marks. Difficult level of thess exams are not too very high. One should devote his 2 hours on a daily basis to score a good mark.

Faculty

4

Faculty members are extremely knowledgeable individuals in their respective subjects. So faculty to students ratio was damn bad. This was affecting our studies initially, but later on we got habituated. Faculties approach towards approach were traditional. They were not very innovative in terms of teaching. However some of them were really good at teaching. Being an average student i can't recall any such moments where i interacted with them outside of classes. But yeah sometimes I've approached them to simplify few topics in between classes. Rating 8 out of 10 to faculty members because they were not innovative as they should be.

Other Applied Colleges

Siliguri Institute of Technology - [SIT] | Bachelor of Business Administration [BBA]

Fee was too high. And it's far away from my home hence I had to choose SCC

Suryasen Mahavidyalaya | Bcom (program)

Because it was not as reputed as Siliguri College Of Commerce

The highest package offered was of 11 lakh so far. And the average package is 4 to 5 lakh per annum. Like most of the Goenkans I am also thinking of pursuing CA as a profession but for now I am focusing on my BCom degree and after my BCom degree I will complete my MBA from a good reputed college.

It is a 4 year programme which offers placements. But if someone doesn't get direct placement they are still skilled enough to get a job off campus and it can go from 6 LPA to 12 LPA. If the performance is very poor they can't go to the 4th year.

Like the highest package is about 50000 rupees and the lowest is 15000 rupees. Only few studets get chance in this companies. Like 5-10% students. I want to be a bank manager so i just keep my study moving on.
