Course Curriculum Overview
In civil engineering, the course involves subjects like structural analysis, geotechnicals, water resources, transportation and environmental engineering. The theory and practicals of these subjects are taken by experienced faculty throughout 8 semesters. In each semester, students are required to appear for mid-semester exams (30marks) and end-semester exams (50marks) for theory subjects. The remaining 20 marks is allotted to class tests, viva voce, attendance, and assignments. For practicals, viva voce is conducted along with the submission of a report that consists of 50 marks in total.
Placement Experience
After the 6th semester is completed, students are required to register for campus placements. A large number of core and non core companies visit the campus starting from August. Overall placement and package offered varies each year.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course fees for 8 semesters is approximately 6 lakhs. In each semester, students need to pay Rs 71000. The students can avail 2/3rd fee waiver or full waiver based on their family income and on submission of proper income certificate.
Campus Life
There are a number of social clubs that are present in IIEST, Shibpur that are involved in various activities ranging from photography to stage acting. The annual cultural fest called Rebecca takes place in April. Various artists involved renowned singers and dancers from around the world perform in it.
Admission
The admission to IIEST, Shibpur is done through JEE mains examination that is conducted twice a year. If you want top branches like CSE, IT and ECE, the JEE mains rank must be within 25k (for general category). Other branches like CE, ME, Min, MET can be obtained with a rank within 45k.
Faculty
The faculty at IIEST, Shibpur are experienced and well versed at their respective fields. The faculty to student ratio is quite good along with both way communication that helps the students to approach the professors regarding any clarification of doubts. The core concepts necessary in the field are taught by the faculty that help the students immensely to sit for placements. They also focus in research aspects in the final year to encourage persuing higher education in future.
