An overview of Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies Tiruvalla

Dislikes

  • College is strict on comparing to other colleges
  • Sometimes there is a rush in completing portions during the last time of the semester

Course Curriculum Overview :

Food technology is an advanced course. It helps us to explore various aspects of commercial food handling. The syllabus of the course is well designed as to cover most of the aspects related to food industry.

Internships Opportunities :

Various trainings and certification programmes are arranged as per the needs of the students. College also helps in finding out a proper institute to carry out our final semester project. Trainings for competitive exams like NET will be provided as per the needs of the students

Placement Experience :

A fair placement opportunities are provided by the college. Students are trained form their start of second year to perform well in placement interviews. From the start of 4th semester students are eligible for campus placements. A number of prominent companies (including Nestle, in the case of my course) comes here for campus recruitments.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The course runs over a semester fee of 47000/- The college and its management offers scholarships to eligible students. College employment opportunities are also there. Students can take in the charge of librarian after college hours and they will be paid a reasonable amount per month

Campus Life :

Overall it's a nice college experience here. A fair amount of celebrations and programmes anre held annually. Macfiesta, Biospectrum, Food fest etc are the major ones. An advanced and large library facility is also offered eith a wide variety of books and journals. Sports activities are very less here. There are many clubs like NSS, Food club, Forestry club etc.

Hostel Facilities :

Separate hostel facilities are arranged for boys and girls. Two hostel for girls inside the campus and one hostel for boys outside the campus. 2,3,4,6 person rooms are available, all rooms with attached bathroom. Food provided is also very good. Veg and non-veg options are available.

Admission :

I took admission through the single-window system of Mahatma Gandhi University. There were 3 allotments and a supplementary allotment. Admission processes were smooth nd quick. College also offers management seat admissions as well

Faculty :

Faculties are qualified most of them with a Ph.D in their subjects. They are free to approach at anytime for help. A faculty is assigned to every 5-10 students as theor mentor so they can be open with them about any issues they face

Placement Experience:

There are departments with placements and university has got a placement cell. There are also various career guidance classes, Innovation and entrepreneurship development centre(IEDC) to support students. But my course is more of a research oriented and as such I can apply for phd opportunities myself. The faculties will help in getting internships, recommendations and journal publications as long as long as we are interested.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Talking about the course, as it is a pg course the main thing is the effort we put in this subject. The teachers has a limit and it is always the effort we put from our side to complete the course. Frankly speaking, the course is a tough one. Syllabus is so long that many things are there to study.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is to be updated. The university provides a weak syllabus and the system of conducting examinations are outdated. Exams are not in time and the results are delayed. Exams are moderate to easy. Sometimes same questions appear. But, course helped me to get a vast knowledge about my subject

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for the placement in their final year of the course. We have BS-MS, MSc, IPhD and PhD currently. Students from BS-MS are more likely to be placed. Though placement is less as students mostly go for research after masters. We have a placement cell that notifies about the opportunities in industries and academia. As my plans are to pursue a PhD after getting this degree so I never got interested in placement opportunity.
