Likes
- The campus has 2 good libraries one for the students of Arts department like History, Political Science, Sociology etc and the other library is the Science library for the students from Science department like Maths , Physics , Biology Chemistry .
- Our university is very inclusive where people from diverse background come to study. We have students from rural parts of West Bengal as well as the affluent parts of Kolkata and also many students from North Bengal region .
- Most of the faculty members in my department ( History Department) have done excellent research work in thier respective interest areas and they have done their PhD from renouned Universities in India and abroad .
Dislikes
- The students who live in Girls hostel and the Boys hostel which is the Eden Hindu Hostel have to face a lot of difficulties in terms of having access to bus and transport facilities and good and clean food in the message system .
- Our university does not give a lot of importance to sports which I feel is very necessary since we have good players in Football and Volleyball. If the university arranges for adequate equipment and facilities our university team can do really well .
- I do not like the fact that our beautiful campus is filled with scribblings on the pillars and the walls around the campus .
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is according to the UGC syllabus in the Undergraduate level whereas the university has designed its own syllabus in the Post Graduate and in the PhD course work. The syllabus is diverse and covers various aspects of History including Indian history from the ancient times to the modern era . Westen European history till about the 20th century. We also have courses on Inter Faith relations , Global intellectual history and the History of Jewsish Community and so on .The syllabus is diverse and covers a lot of interesting and relevant topics .
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is very affordable in our university.Its about 6600 in three years which makes it just around 2200 per year and around 1100 per semester. This allows students from difficult financial backgrounds to also come and study here freely. Besides university in the university website from time to time announces the scholarships and various government schemes for the financial and study aid for students.
Campus Life
Social life in the campus is very good . We have fests which are organised regularly like the Icon fest , the Ispat fest and the Millieu fest. The campus is equipped with a beautiful ground which is called the Presi Greens and we also have a basketball and a volleyball court and a badminton court and recently there is also a gym which is available in the campus.
Admission
The admission procedure is simple . We have to appear in the entrance exam which is the Pubdet exam in the Undergraduate level and the Pumdet exam in the Masters level . There are adequate reservations as according to central government norms for OBC , St and Sc and the Pwd group. Exam difficultly is moderate to easy but there is a lot of competition for seats .
Faculty
The professors are very articulate in the way they teach . They are well qualified and well experienced. Most of them are punctual in taking regular classes and they are always ready to solve our querries. Besides, our department organises a lot of seminar and lectures where reputed speakers come and speak on important topics and important research areas which makes it really interesting for the students in our department.This helps us in having a nuanced understanding of our respective subject.
