Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I did my post graduation here itself and i believe that the syllabus could be updated and as this foeld is emerging and many major new technologies are being implemented in this field it would be helpful if it gets updated. The same can be said for equipments in the department as well and should be updated as well. The frequency of exams are quite comfortable and the results cone in a good pace as well. So to move to the next step is quite comfortable as well.

Internships Opportunities

4

In the last semester of our PG we can do our projects anywhere we want and the department would give us recommendation letters for this as well. But the department would not suggest any place and we would have to find on our own. The department gives us freedom to do internships and that is a big thumps up.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fee is quite low compared to other places and the university provides scholarship of 1000 per month for students in Port Blair. Which is very helpful. But the scholarship was quite late and we recieved it after our completion of our course. Another headache would be the accessibility of the campus. As reaching Port Blair is a big burden financially as flight tickets does not come cheap. The university does not provide opportunities for campus placement which is a big negative taking into consideration the opportunities present in our field.

Campus Life

3.5

The fests had a halt after covid as of my knowledge and steps are being taken to conduct a fest this year. Most of the fests held are done by the students or hostel mastes with no support from the university (financial support). As mentioned earlier the books available in the library are also not updated taking into consideration our field. Many equipments in the department have not been maintained during the covid time and hence many equipments have been damaged and thus a big problem is being faced by the students. Also the unavailability of a ground in the campus is a big problem as well.

Hostel Facilities

3

We had to protest for the hostel availability for phd scholars and we where successfull. The major issues in the hostel would be the quality of food provided and not much maintenance being done on the infrastructure. The unavailability of wifi in certain parts of the hostel is also a major issue faced by the inmates. The hostel as compared to living outside the campus is very affordable but as the availability of food items comes in a high cost in Port Blair the mess fee would be quite high taking into consideration the quality of food we get.

Admission

We had an entrance exam and also an interview after it. There was a miscommunication wether the interview should be done online or offline and some people had to come for it offline including me. The fact that the campus is in port blair is a bit of a hassle and the last minute notice of the interview was a burden but all turned out well. The examination level was simpler for people in disaster management background but would be much more hard for others as our field is multi disciplinary

Course Curriculum Overview:

In our Phd curriculum we have a syllabus which include the research methodology and a core subject. But the syllabus was not framed for a long time and the course work completion should be done within 6 months so that the rest of our Phd work would be smooth. But the delay has affected us very badly.
