Course Curriculum Overview

0.5

Because of the rise in the IT industry at that time (2019), I took this course. It offered the finest placements but now due to recession and layoffs there are very less opportunities for freshers. I'm unemployed right now and I didn't get any job from college mostly due to the incapabilty of college and my mediocre skills. Out of 170 students in my department only 90 students got placement form college. The college is merely mediocre (below average), it lacks organized sports, clubs, labs and community for coders. Placements are not the focus of the course , and the college do not offer any training and faculty are really incapable. A semester exam consists of three exams: Midsem-1, Midsem-2 and End semester. For odd semester these exams took place in October, November and December respectively. For even semester exams took place in April, May and June respectively. Exam difficulty is just average; with just two weeks of preaparation you can pass and receive good grades (>= 8CGPA).

Placement Experience

0.5

Students are elgible for placement after 7th semester. Few MNCs, rarely startups and mostly Kolkata based local companies will visit for 2-3 LPA with 2-3 year bond. Some will visit for tech role and some will for Sales or Business roles. There is pool campusing for all JIS group colleges. In my time companis (average 2-5 offer) visited were Accenture, TCS, EY, Capgemini (mass recruiter), Cognizant (mass recruiter), Tech Mahindra, ITC Infotech, Persistent, IBS Software, Hexaware, HCL, Bitwise solutions, Nucleus software, CBNITS, Mantra labs, Maventic, JIO, Ericsson, Brainium, Tekion, Blueflame labs, Siechem Technolgies, PEOL technologies, Teks Mobile, Inadev,Mindtree, Digiboxx, JSW group, IBM, Wanderbotz,UST. Heighest package offered was 9.5LPA to 3 students by wanderbotz, & one 9LPA by SAP Lab. After that 6 peopel got 5-6 LPA by EY. Most packages offered were in 2-4 LPA range. Average package is 3 LPA. Only 53% of students placed in 2023 batch i.e. 80-90 students got placed out of 170.

Fees and Financial Aid

My total college fees excluding hostel fees and exam fees was Rs 4,03,000. The semester wise fees breakup for all eight semesters were 80300, 44500, 45100, 45600, 46200, 46700, 47300 and 47300 with an increment of 500 in every semster after first semester. The first semester fees includes tution fees (44000), Caution Money Deposit (10000), Project & Seminar fees (8000), Library cum Book Bank fees (6000), Students welfare and sports & games fees (4000), Student uniform fees (4000), MAKAUT development fees (2200), Prospectus with admission kit (1600) and MAKAUT registraion fees (500). Besides this fees for every semester exam fees is 1200. Hostel fees were 33000 per semester. The scholarships like NSP and state education scholarships provided by government to elgible students only are available. I didn't avail any scholarship. EWS category students' fees is low as mandated by the government. There are no campus employment opportunities and stipends.

Campus Life

0.5

One and only tech fest cum cultural fest will happen in a year which is JISTech. Other cultural programmes will happen on occasions like Foundation Day (2nd september), Freshers orientation and Final year Farewell. Very low budget fests happen here which one could argue fest in school was far better. There is only one auditorium with a capacity of 500 people where all programmes happen. There is one common palyground for all type of sports - cricket, football, badminton and volley ball. One indoor play room is available for sports like Chess, Pingpong, Table tennis, Snookers with a capacity of 20 people. Clubs and social groups are as dead as placements in this college. You just have to come to college to maintain attendance and go home. Library is good but students are allowed to visit only in working hour and department wise specified time.

Hostel Facilities

1

Till 3rd year I was in hostel. There are 2 sharing rooms available with common washroom. There will be fan, tubelight, bed, chair and table in the room with a narrow balcony window. A little playground is there in hostel. Meal quality is too poor. Four meals will be provided - Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks and Dinner. In breakfast menu there are variations of food like Upma / Luchi sabzi / Roti sabzi / Cornflakes with tea. In Lunch there will be rice, vegetable curry / fish curry / aaloo-paneer / chicken curry. At evening snacks there will be tea, biscuits or mixture. At dinner ther you can opt either roti or rice along with daal and vegetable curry. The rotis are half baked everyday. Many times worms and insects will be seen in the food. Plates are also not properly washed. It is so unhygeinic. I also rented a room in my 4th year with room rent of 1500 for double sharing and 2600 for single room. Cheap food in this locality is availbale with per meal charges ranging 50-100 but taste awful

Admission

Eligibility of the course: Minimum age is 17 years old, with no specified upper age limit. Passed Higher Secondary (10+2) examination conducted by CBSE or any other State Board. Individual passing marks and minimum of 45% marks combined in Physics & Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science. Passing marks in English with at least 30% marks. Valid rank in WBJEE / JEE(Main) / CEE-AIMPAI-WB. Application form, Fees, and dates are available on the institution's official website. I haven't availed any reservation benefits. I qualified WBJEE with rank 36k and then applied for counselling (3 rounds) where I got this college. WBJEE consists of 2 papers(Maths, Physics & Chemistry combined) which is usually very difficult. Although eligibility criteria requires valid rank in JEE or WBJEE but many local students from West Bengal got direct admission without qualifying JEE or WBJEE. The college need to improve this admission process.

Studentsbecome eligible for placements from 7th semester. Various companies such as TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Godrej, etc. come for placements. Earlier many offers used to come however in the recent years the number of offers made have reduced significantly. highest package comes around 10 to 11 lakhs per annum with average being 4-5 lakhs per annum. I have kept my options open after completion of degree in doing further studies that is Mtech or getting into a job whichever seems appropriate at the situation.

Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
