- Sometimes, the professors of botany and chemistry were too late in class and did not complete their academic syllabus.
- Availing the registration certificates from the counter was very time-taking as I have to stand in a long queue for hours.
Course Curriculum Overview
I have chosen this course as I have the passion and grown interest to study, evaluate, and explore various zoological topics from my secondary and higher secondary level. There were six faculty members and one lab assistant in our department. The total number of students was 120, 42, and 24 in the first, second, and third years. The students' numbers were decreasing after the first and second year as many of them had not been able to score their passing marks (at least 40%) for securing Zoology honors. The faculty:student ratio was 1:2, 1:7 and 1:4 in first, second and third year. The qualification of the faculty members as four of them had completed their BSc, MSc, B.Ed and PhD in Zoology. The rest two of them had completed their B.Sc, M.Sc (Zoology) and B.Ed (Life Science). There was only one yearly exam at that time in my college. There was a lot of syllabus in zoology including two pass subjects (botany and chemistry). The syllabus was in moderate level and quite difficult to score marks
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees structure for Zoology was Rs.420 that I had to pay on monthly basis. There was a slight hike (about 20%) after every year on my subject. The overall total cost was approximately Rs. 20000 that was required for three years in my honors subject. There was no scholarship assistance from our college. But there was only one scholarship assistance on behalf of the Government of West Bengal that is Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means (SVMCM) scholarship which I have not availed as my family income was more than Rs.250000 per annum. Various job orientation programs were held in our college from time to time. Although I had not got any job as this is an general degree college.
Campus Life
The annual fest called freshers party had been organised by our college. Ou Principal (Dr.Monojit Ray) and other administrative staff came to give small lectures on behalf of our college and also congratulated us fornour respective academic career. It was fun and exciting as many games, quiz competition, and other programs had been held. There was a central Library were all books, newspapera of various genre and journals had been provided to the students. All infrastructure such as audio-visual classrooms, tables, chairs, CCTVs, various zoological specimens, a departmental library, separate departmental classrooms, and lab facilities were available significantly. Various indoor and outdoor games have been held in our college. Mostly famous organized as the Inter-College Cricket and Football championship. Various social clubs such as community clubs, dance clubs, and sports clubs are present in our college. I have joined the sports club in my college.
Admission
The admission process was very simple in my college. Firstly, the candidate had to register himself/herself with the personal details required. After login, the candidate had to fill best of five subject marks in the college website. Then, the college would publish the merit lists consecutively (first, second, third, etc) for the respective subjects based on the marks obtained. My subject was Zoology in my college. The eligibility criteria for opting for Zoology was the candidate had to pass class 12 by securing at least 50% marks with PCB as a mandatory subjects. All the details such as application dates, application fees were available in the college website. But the application form for each subject was only available from the respective department which was provided by the faculty members after verification of the original documents. As an improvement, I would like to suggest providing the application form in the college website and make the full admission process in online mode.
