- I like the diversified culture at IIT Kharagpur as there are talented people coming from every State and through are cultural programmes, fests and clubs we have an amazing culture.
- I like the placements here as they are amazing just like in any other IIT.

Dislikes
- The thing I dislike most here is the mess food as it is really not up to the mark.
- The hostel rooms are also not good enough and lack cleanliness sometimes and have broken chairs/ tables, etc. at times.
- Since this campus is located in a suburban area- Kharagpur, there is nothing much to explore outside the campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose mining engineering because the mining industry has a lot of scope in technological advancements and the curriculum of mining engineering at IIT Kharagpur is very efficient. The faculty: student ratio is approximately 1:10 at IIT Kharagpur. The faculty is highly skilled and knowledgeable at IIT Kharagpur just like any other IIT. The term exams occur twice per semester: one is the midsems and another is the endsems, and there are two semesters per year. It is not very hard to pass the term exams and students can pass them easily.
Internships Opportunities
Since I am a fresher right now, I am not doing any internship. However at the end of the third year, we have to do a compulsory internship offered by the college itself with nice stipends even upto 1 lakhs per month and based on our performance, we are even graded.
Placement Experience
Campus placements take place at the end of the 7th semesters every year. Many reputed companies from all over the world including Google, Amazon, Oracle, Microsoft, apple, Jane Street, etc. visited the campus and made big offers to the students. The highest package for the mining department stayed at 50 Lpa whereas for the entire IIT it stayed at 1.64 crores per annum.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees structure at IIT Kharagpur is around Rs 100000 per semester as the tuition fees for general students but it is free of cost for SC category students. The SC students just require to pay the hostel and mess fees which sums up to around 40000 Rs per semester. Currently I am not on any scholarship.
Campus Life
The life at the IIT Kharagpur campus is amazing as it is the biggest IIT in India with almost all amenities available inside the campus itself. We have an annual tech fest named Kshitij which is conducted in the month of January with a lot of tech events and celebrity guests. We have our annual fest named spring fest also conducted in the month of January with a lot of celebrity visits. The classrooms are Air conditioned with blackboards and projectors. All kinds of sports can be played and practised in the campus and there are a lot of opportunities for all kinds of extra curricular activities through a lot of clubs and societies in the college.
Admission
Those who have qualified for the JEE Advanced exam with the required rank are eligible for admission to this course. At first there is an exam called JEE mains given by 12 lakh candidates and the top 2.5 lakh appear for the JEE Advanced based on which students get admitted to the reputed IITs. There are maximum two attempts for JEE advanced exam: one along with our class 12 and one more drop year and after that we are not eligible to write this exam again. I belong to the SC category and we have a separate rank list based on which we get admitted to IITs.
