Remarks

All in all, I can say that my college is quite good. It has its pros and cons and I have adjusted to it in all these 2 years of my time in college. Overall, my college is quite good and my hostel friends have made my life delightful here. I'd suggest this college to everyone who wants to pursue their career in Mechanical field because the knowledge base, that one can build here is amazing.

Entrance Preview

I got admission in this college after appearing for JEE MAINS exam in 2015. I participated in the online counselling process, also known as Joint Seat Allocation Authority JoSAA and got a seat here. I got admission here on the basis of my JEE Mains rank. Since this college is in my home state and I have always had an inclination towards mechanics, so I opted for Mechanical engineering. Since JoSAA is purely based on JEE Mains rank, there is no room for an interview for the admission. My college is one of the best institutes in India for mechanical engineering so I really didn't have to think twice before taking admission here.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I will give my mechanical engineering department, a score of 7 out of 10. There are three practical subjects or labs in every semester. Research initiative taken by our institute is, the establishment of solar energy production systems and energy production by biomass. There are many more research going on in our institute. Elective options is between solar energy and automobile engineering. The course is overall quite detailed and covers the contemporary topics too.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college doesn't provide its students any internship. Students have to find internships themselves. I am yet to do an internship because I am still in my third year. I will do an internship at the end of my third year, i.e., in the summer break before my fourth year. From what I have heard from my seniors, internship for students of mechanical engineering is usually unpaid.

Placement Experience

3

Placement is okay, about 80 percent as that of the previous year. Major companies do not visit here for campus recruitment. Other companies that visit the college for placement are, Maruti Suzuki, TCS, IBM, Infosys, Tata Metalics, CESC. Average package of our mechanical engineering department is 5 Lakh per annumand the total average package of the institute is about 4 Lakh per annum.

College Events

4.5

Our college has Technical Fests like Instruo and other small events are organized throughout the year. It is usually a 3-day event and is organized in a large and fruitful manner. College authorities do not contribute but they support all activities held by the students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee for my batch, i.e, for the 2015 batch was, Rs. 38000 per semester. For students like me, who do not belong to a very good economic background, do take a loan for this much fee. For me, it was not fully affordable, so, I took education loan. Since its a government college, so the fee is not that high when compared to the private colleges around the country.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college doesn't provide any scholarship to the students and so, I availed an education loan from Punjab National Bank. No, college does not help in getting the loan, students have to look for the loan on their own.

Campus Life

3.5

My college has various clubs for various extra curricular activities. One can get ample opportunities to build up one's personality if he/she uses the available facilities wisely. It is my laziness that has drawn me back from the clubs otherwise, I'd have surely joined most of them.

Hostel Facilities

4

Yes i am residing in hostel. A single room here, is shared by 4 boys, however, as students proceed to their 4th year, they are given single occupancy room. A nominal fee of Rs. 3000 is to be paid by us (hosteler) for the mess and hostel fee combined. Food is good. We are given non-veg food thrice a week.

Alumni/Alumna

Our college has one of the best alumni networks of the world. Yes, college provides a platform for student-alumni interaction by organizing various workshops to promote it. The alumni come and help the students in various manners, thus leading to overall development of the college and students.

Exam Structure

We have only 2 exams in a semester, and they are, mid semesters exam and End Semester Exams. The dates for these exams are usually given to us at the start of the semester and so we are mentally prepared for the exams. Exams are very well organized and this doesn't make us tired at all. So, I can say that yes its a chill culture for exams. For labs, attendance is compulsory so it becomes tiring at times.

Faculty

4

Faculties are very well qualified in my department. I can say that, almost 90 percent teachers in my department have their PhD degrees. The teachers are fully interactive and have a very friendly nature. Standards of teaching are good for about 70 percent teachers and rest don't teach that good. The teachers who do not have any PhD degrees, at least have their masters degree.

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin
