Remarks

Over all it a Good college to be. But at present not rated in best college. Location and infrastructure in there, however need more zeal in present faculty team and support of government to facilitate research work, equipping labs and library. Library is really dull, need to be smart and replace the obsolete things, Library should not be like a museum of old books and editions. Best part is the students, collaboratively the learn "how to learn"and excel.

Entrance Preview

I qualified GATE to get entrance to Master of Technology in textiles at VJTI. Scores AIR 8th in year of 2002. Textile begin a very specialized field and not much options were there, but in the given limited choice of Kanpur, Bhiwani and Ichalkaranji this college is best. Interview was not much intense and was more like a counselling for the choice of specialisation.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I found the course curriculum ages old. I mean the written syllabus was very out dated and most of the topic where the same as what we had already learnt in B.tech. However the Faculty and HOD were quiet informed and knowledgeable . And we understand that it's a Master's program, we are supposes to be specialist of your own choice of subject, why need a syllabus. And so our search or "re-search" begins.

Internships Opportunities

This was not supported to us. however contingency grand and scholarship by GOI was extended to few students.

Placement Experience

5

2004 was a difficult time for textiles. TPO was very active and almost all IT and consultancy companies was on campus. To name a few, Cognizant, Sapient, Accenture, IBM, HCL, Infy, Wipro, Simens, LnT. In core textile there was: Sulzer, Century textiles, Raymond, Ashima international, Arvind mills.

College Events

4.5

Events, WOW, All time it was fun being there. Near to Wadala and Parsi Colony , in the center of a city like Mumbai, this place is full of energy and high intensity activities. Cultural events were full off Bollywood celebrities and top DJs played there. And yes, what matters to most to us, the Technovanza, That time to us it seems to be the most advanced place of robotics .

Fee Structure And Facilities

Very affordable, being a government run and funded fees in general was not never an issue. For the complete course my fees at 2002-04 was not more than 70K. Add to this is 500 Exam fee for each semester. And 7500 for a year for Hostel fee. mess charges was around 2000 per month.

Fees and Financial Aid

yes, After GATE there is GOI scholarship. And couple of other scholarships funded by public and private companies.

Campus Life

Events, WOW, All time it was fun being there. Near to Wadala and Parsi Colony , in the center of a city like Mumbai, this place is full of energy and high intensity activities. Cultural events were full off Bollywood celebrities and top DJs played there. And yes, what matters to most to us, the Technovanza, That time to us it seems to be the most advanced place of robotics . gender ratio is good, almost 40 % are girls . Students are mainly from Maharastra but also about 20% are from other states. Few of guys from Assam , Orissa and Punjab were good friend of mine.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel cleanliness and facility were not good, but looking into the challenges of living at mumbai city, for a student living in Hostel is the not only most convenient but also must to keep concentrate on core objective of study. And where else the real fun is other than Hostel.

Alumni/Alumna

There are Alumni networks and are active groups. VJTI is said to be first engineering college of country. At time of British it was a Diploma college and called at Victoria Jubliee Tech. Ints. later name changed as Veermata Jijabhai Tech Inst, (tricky to retain the abb.) Some of the most renowned personalities are from this college.

Exam Structure

Exams are on pattern as defined by University of Mumbai, with quite a good autonomy for Textile dept, as this was the only college of textiles in university of Mumbai. There were five written papers in each semester and five practicals. Practical and lab work goes quite a hectic and stressful, accuracy was important there. Most interesting was the project work, that was actually on site at some industry and give an exposure of real world problem. Here we had the opportunity to add value to our subject , and we are proud that each of my batch did that gracefully :) , with atleast one paper in national journal.

Admission

I appeared and qualified the GATE 2002 exam. After ranking eighth in AIR I applied for admission to VJTI. There was no known notification for me, but I enquire about admission procedure directly with the earlier batch members, who were known to me. Admission process was smooth, VJTI follow guidelines from University of Mumbai, and the Then HOD Dr. H.V.S Murthy sir was very helpful to us to complete all the formalities.

Faculty

4.5

Mixed bag. Then HOD Dr. H.V.S. Murthy , I had not experienced a more humble, disciplined and knowledgeable person then him. A inspiration to all and institute in himself. Loads of papers and books authored by him. At the day of retirement (2005), he looks of a age not more than fourty, . Special to mention here that Dr. Khare sir, he is another Md. Rafi of this world :) Factually at textile Dept, VJTI in general was average.

Placement Experience:

The university has one of the quality placements in India. The placement committee of the university is properly privy to the groups and college students' necessities and pursuits and the committee put together us accordingly. For our batch, the very best placement package deal went as much as sixty-five LPA and the common placement package deal turned into around 17.50 LPA. Few college students have been very lucky to acquire pre-placement offers. Companies like Uber, Ruberik, Millennium, Black Stone, Barclays, CITI Bank, Delloite, Accenture, EY, PwC, Infosys, Samsung, Amway, Wipro, Loreal, Marico, and so on visited our campus for placement power withinside the university.
