Amazing 5 years journey

Overall, IIT Kharagpur is an excellent college in terms of studying good engineering and science subjects.

I took IIT JEE in 2012. I scored around 211/460. I rank was 4153 and I opted for the Integrated M.Sc. course in Physics at IIT Kharagpur since I liked Physics during my JEE days and I could get that only in Kharagpur.

Yes, my course structure was excellent here at IIT Kharagpur. The first year is common to all the people from different departments. IIT Kharagpur had around 1400 students as intake back in 2012 and we were divided into 14 sections of 100 students during our first year. Starting from the 2nd year, core physics subjects were introduced.

Yes, IIT Kharagpur does have a very well organised Career Development Centre which deals directly with all the placements and Internships. There are many MnC companies which come to our campus to recruit students, e.g. Deutsche Bank, American Express, FICO, etc.

Our cultural fest is Spring Fest which is organised in January every year. The students involved in the Spring Fest team organise events in various forms and also invite a country famous artist on the special event on the last day. Kshitij, the techno-management fest organised by IIT Kharagpur is one of the largest of its form in the entire Asia

There are two semesters every year. My fees for each semester was around INR 50,000. It was not very expensive for me though I belong to a middle class family. For OBC and SC/ST category people, the fees was even less. But it was heard in recent times, that the fees of the institute was going to be doubled

As a Physics student, I used to get INR 60,000 annually as INSPIRE scholarship which is provided by MHRD, Government of India to the science students in India in the IITs.

The campus life here is brilliant. The students gets to involve in various extracurricular activities. There are various societies in the campus, for instance, Debating Society, Eastern Music Society, Western Music Society, Hindi Dramatics Society, English Dramatics Society, etc

The hostel facilities were average, but our campus including the hostels have a free wifi network and the rooms in the hostels have very fast ethernet service. The rooms in the hostels are quite old though there are some big new hostels being build in the institute

Yes, we have a dedicated Alumni Cell in IIT Kharagpur which deals with having good communication with all the previous students.

No, the course and exam structure is designed in such a way that it becomes really easy for the student to maintain a balance between academics and extra-curricular activities. As far as my Physics department is concerned, yes we had quite a lot of labs untill our fourth year

When I took JEE in 2012, the application procedure was online.The notification was released in February in the IIT-JEE website (IIT Delhi was the organiser). It directly generated my admit card and I could sit for the exam. It was just the next year that IIT JEE Mains and Advanced structure was introduced.

The Physics faculty at IIT Kharagpur is excellent in terms of doing research later on. The course structure is designed in such a way that the student gets to experience almost all the important fields of research in Physics and consequently opt for a field of his/her own interest.
