Remarks

The college has a great ambience, Amazing place to study and an expansive library. However, it needs to work on alumni network management and Placements.

Entrance Preview

The admission process to any of the STAS Colleges (There are 3 of them: Kottayam, Edapally, Pathanamthitta). These notes are completely based on my admission process to STAS Edapally. For me, the admission process was fairly straight forward. The admission is purely based on a merit cut-off based on the marks scored in grade 12. In addition a small interview with the Regional Director or the Head of Department to assess the student as a potential candidate. Thu number of intakes is fairly less. About 30 students per subject( BSc Computer Science or BSc Electronics)

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course is fairly straight forward. Competent and on par with any other Indian University for Computer Science. However, I do feel that the topics can be updated based on the requirements and needs of the current technology and job needs. In addition, the college has also introduced new courses, the first of its kinds in the state (BSc Cyber Forensics & BSc Space Technology)

Internships Opportunities

No as of now, to my knowledge the college does not provide internships. I believe this is the case for both bachelors as well as Masters degrees.

Placement Experience

0.5

The college is generally purely academic, however, the student council has created a placement cell. Placements are quite honestly low and the college encourages students for off-campus placements mostly. Nonetheless, The college does conduct seminars and workshops for students on interview process and talks on new technologies. The college has clubs for Computer Science and FOSS

College Events

2.5

We have the following events in the college Cultural Fests: This is both WITHIN college and inter STAS. The inter STAS cultural event is generally held in Kottayam where students of the other STAS Colleges gather. Cultural fests are broken to arts fests(Painting, Drawing etc), Cultural Fests (Dance, Song etc) and literary(Writing, debate, speech) Science Fests: These can be science fairs and hackathons. These are conducted inter colleges as well, where STAS hosts an event or the students are encouraged to attend Science Fests in other colleges.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees structure of STAS is quite honestly affordable. In fact lower than feasible actually. For the General Category the fees are about Rs 9000 per semester and for SC/ST there are no fees. (In fact, students that fall in this category are provided a stipend from the college)

Fees and Financial Aid

Not to my knowledge. As the fee structure is fairly believed to be low and affordable and already provided at a subsidised rate the college does not provide any additional scholarship. I believe education loans could be availed from banks for the PG Courses that are offered in the college.

Campus Life

3.5

The Edapally Campus is small, However, this is expected as this campus is right in the heart of the city. The college is surrounded by some of the best Cultural Landmarks of the state. The college is pretty progressive and has very active Student Union. he gender ratio is fairly good. My class had a higher ratio of females. About 18 Girls and 11 Boys. And as far as I've known it seems generally the college has had a trend of girls being the majority. The college is strict when it comes to uniform and Fridays can be used for casual dressing. The college is strict about timings and attendance. The teachers are generally approachable and the college has made it a practice that the seniors are generally approachable. People who are interested in sports will be disappointed in the Edappally campus though as there are no facilities of any kind for the same.

Hostel Facilities

0.5

The college is a day Scholar College and does NOT provide Hostel/ Mess Facilities. Students are meant to be day scholars and are expected to bring their own food. However, it is easy to get hostel near the college as the college is situated in the heart of the city. Also, mess facilities are available outside the college at very reasonable rates. Nonetheless, in my experience, my classmates including me were students that stayed in and around Edapally. I believe STAS Kottayam has Hostel & Mess facilities though

Alumni/Alumna

Yes, I feel and believe that STAS needs to work on this area. The college has an active Student Community, however, its Alumni network is

Exam Structure

The exam Structure Semester based We have 1 mid-semester exam that happens in the middle of the Semester. The final semester exams with complete portions. In addition, all subjects will have small project/paper to submit on which VIVA will be taken. The end semester result is the sum of all the 3.

Admission

First, we need to get the Admission form for STAS from the University Website. Once the application is filled and marks scored in Grade 12 & 10 are uploaded, if your marks are above the cutoff you will be provided an opportunity for an interview with the HOD or director of the college. Once the interview process is done and they see that you are eligible, you will be offered a seat in the college

Faculty

5

The faculty of the college is highly experienced and qualified. Also since this is a college that is directly run by the University all the appointments are done by the University itself, there is a stringent process on how faculty is appointed. My teachers were pretty qualified and well experienced in the subject as well as handling the students

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is almost best. Curriculum doesn't influenced me in deciding this course. Curriculum should add internships. Currently there is no mandatory internship, if students are interested they can do internship during vacations. As we are learning psychology which need to be practiced in real world settings, curriculum must include real world training to help students understand things more effectively. Currently intervel between exams are non existent. Internal exams, then semester exams, you blink once, next internal exams, followed by semester exams. Syllabus is understandable, can learn if you try. Exams are also manageable. Real world examples and stories can be included in teaching methods, as psychology is related to humans and human interaction, to get better grasp of concepts. Rather than focusing on passing exam, should focus on the concepts and understand them in-depth. There are a lot of theories to study by heart. And there are many repetitive topics that overlap, but in different semesters.

I feel in love with mathematics in plus two time. The coursee are more application based when compared to other. Out college being an autonomous college has good grip to keep up to the level of good education. Overall teaching methods and syllabus are very good. Frequency of exams are troublesome during the last time of year because all the programmes like youth festival annual day etc come together

Course Curriculum Overview:

My course is Bsc Biotechnology. It is a research associated course. Its main scope is in research. But in every industry let it be medical or industrial a biotechnologist is required. I would like more practical knowledge than theory knowledge in this course as it is needed to be implemented in labs hands on experience is essential. Exams are conducted every 6 months as semester. Class tests and model exams are conducted frequently. Assignments, projects, seminar ,etc.. are given every month.
