Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose this course because I wanted to pursue civil services and political science is one of the most preferred subjects among the students preparing for CSE. The faculty is overall good while only a few aren't interested in teaching, the rest teach well. Some professors teach exceptionally brilliantly. There are different faculties for different papers. Almost all the faculty have completed their Ph.D. and most of them are from JNU. Since our batch is also referred to as 'the covid batch' so our batch obviously started late because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So we literally finished 3 semesters in just 13 months which includes exams as well. It was easy for all of the students in my batch to pass as it's a more theoretical-based paper.

Placement Experience

3.5

It's only in the third year that the students are eligible for campus placements. The placements are mainly for students pursuing commerce and some for other departments. Many webinars and seminars are held in college for the purpose of awareness and better knowledge and many internships are also available for students, govt, and non govt for every stream from the first year itself. I'm not sure of the name of the companies that visited as sbsc has not released the latest placement report. But according to the reports of March 2019, over 160 students were presented with offers and the highest package offered was 20 lpa while the average placement offered was 4.69 lpa. Most of the passed students are in good positions in their life.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee is very nominal. Our first yr fee for the entire year was just 7,500 rs and for the second year, it was 10,050 rs. There are various scholarships and financial assistance for the economically weaker sections and some scholarships are there even for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and other backward sections. I personally didn't get any scholarship because I didn't fit the criteria. Also, I'm presently in 2nd year so haven't received any job on campus as well. But I've seen the placement cell working for the students to get placed and many get placed as well with the average package of 4.69 lpa and the highest till today is 20 lpa.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus Life is overall good. You'll find students from different backgrounds and streams and different locations as well. Students from all over India including foreign countries can be seen on the campus. The campus looks joyful and people are friendly and sweet toward each other. Rarely does a fight takes place. Most societies are very active. They participate in various inter and intra-college competitions and win prizes as well. The infrastructure isn't that good though. The most missed thing is the auditorium. The library is very large containing a lot of books. The classrooms are fine. Sports facilities could be improved. There is a very limited no of sports available. There are teams representing college which go for competitions. There are various societies depending on the various interests of students, some examples include music, dance, creative writing, photography, career counseling, icdp, entrepreneur cell, NSS and NCC, many departmental societies, etc.

Admission

I applied for admission in 2021. At that time, there used to be no entrance exam at DU for such courses. The application form was available on the DU portal and the whole admission process went smoothly. The course I'm pursuing is BA Political Science (Hons), the term for which is 3 years. It has now increased to 4 years according to the new education policy if students wish to get an honors degree or they might even pursue the course for 3 years for a regular ba/bsc/bcom/etc degree. I belong to the general category, therefore I didn't avail of any reservation benefits. Although in some co-ed colleges of DU, there was a 1 percent benefit for girls. The admission process was smooth except for this year according to me. The students weren't given options as we did get to choose whichever college we want to take admitted in. They were just given a preference form. I feel this could have been more feasible.

Other Applied Colleges

Banaras Hindu University - [BHU] | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Social Science)

I found that DU provides more exposure and opportunities than BHU, that's why I didn't opt for BHU.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
