Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course as I have a staunch interest in marketing and aim to pursue a career in it. So, I thought pursuing an MBA would help me fulfil this dream, and I found IIM Trichy as the best option. The faculty: student ratio is around 1:10. The faculty are highly qualified and they have completed their Doctorate programs from either IITs or IIMs. The teaching methodology is case-based. All the concepts will be taught to the students through case discussions.
Internships Opportunities
Similar to the final placements around 120+ companies visit the campus for summer internships. The process for summer internships starts during the month of August and goes on until the entire batch gets placed. The roles offered for the summer internships are diverse and are from various domains. The average stipend is also increasing year on year and currently, it is 80-90k per month. As I'm still in my first year and I haven't started my internship, I cannot comment anything about the projects and the outcomes of the internship.
Placement Experience
The placements in the college are pretty decent and they are improving year after year. The placements are handled by the placement team and they make sure that the placements process goes on smoothly. More than 120 companies visit the campus for placements and the roles offered are very diverse. The name of the companies and the no of offers they made cannot be disclosed due to the policies of the placement team. The average package was around 17 lakhs CTC, but this year it has increased to around 19 lakhs ctc. For the summer placements, the students become eligible from term 1 itself and for the final placement students are eligible from term 4. 100% of the batch gets placed during the placement process.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is 18 lakhs for two years. The fees include tuition fees, hostel fees, mess fees and exam fees. For all other fees, the student has to bear them after joining the college. The fee hike policy is unknown, but the college plans to increase the fees by 2-3 lakhs in the coming years. The college has a bank which provides collateral-free loans, but all other banks provide collateral-free loans to the students joining prestigious institutes like IITs and IIMs.
Campus Life
Campus life is very Engaging. The cultural committee of the college conducts an annual fest Dhruva in the month of January. The college also conducts an annual business conclave and a leadership conclave namely Nishtha and Daksha in the months of December and September respectively. IIM Trichy has one of the best libraries in the country. The library is equipped with all the modern amenities, journals, research articles and books. The classrooms are designed based on the Harvard classroom designs and have all the necessary amenities. The college caters to all the sports needs of the students by providing them with all the necessary courts and grounds for all sports. The campus even has a swimming pool with a jacuzzi.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are not upto the mark. The mess of food is pathetic. The hostels were initially built for single occupancy, but due to the abnormal increase in the batch size, they had to make it twin-sharing and this makes the rooms very congested. The rooms have a bunk bed, AC, study table, mirror, whiteboard, a cupboard and an almirah. Though the mess food has both south Indian and north Indian food, the quality of the food is not very great. The registration process for the hostels and mess takes place during the registration for the course.
Admission
The admissions process starts with CAT in the month of November. The eligibility for the course is a minimum of 50 per cent in the 10th class, 12th class and graduation. The Application form for the exam can be availed from the CAT Website and the application fee is 2000 rupees. The cut-off is different for different categories of students, which is highest for the General students which are 92+ percentile overall and 70+ percentile in each section. I belong to the general category and I haven't availed of any reservation benefits.
Interview Experience
Due to the pandemic, the GD and WAT were cancelled for the batch, but a personal Interview was conducted in online mode. In the coming years, GD/ WAT and PI might be conducted in offline mode. The Interview will be conducted by a panel of 2-3 members and it will usually be a stress interview, where the panel tries to gauge your ability to absorb the stress. The questions majorly revolve around, telling me about yourself, current affairs, hobbies and interests and knowledge regarding the undergraduate subjects and work experience if any. I have spent around one month preparing for the interview, based on the above-mentioned topics.
