Academic structure and curriculum in the campus

The curriculum is very comprehensive and relevant with the current industry and specially if you are interested in information technology, and supply chain. Teaching methods are mostly presentation based the classes are 2 hour long and we usually have four classes per day. Also the year is divided into four trimesters of three months each this increases slide pressure on the students and they have to go through seven subjects in one trimester

What are the internship opportunities in the campus?

Placement opportunities at it Madras are really good for finals. We have a separate placement sale for the Department which caters to placement of the MBA program along with that we also have the central placement committee which takes care of the placements of all departments and branches which inherently also includes MBA and Doms so we get double benefits. The range of placements goes from 30 lakhs to close to 16 lakhs and average stands at 18 to 20 lakhs.

What are the placement opportunities in the college?

Placement opportunities are decent summer internship program starts from the next month of you joining College in July the company start coming in interview starts happening and internships begin in May next year similarly final placements start from October and by December they usually end multiple good companies like Deloitte visit the campus. IIT Madras has been offering 100% placements continuously for the past few years and average CTC has been increasing rapidly over the past years

Yearly fees structure of the course and scholarship

IIT Madras has one of the lowest fees when it comes to top management institutes in India with annual fees being close to 7 Lacs including hostel and everything else. We also have a foreign exchange program which takes us to various universities which IIT Madras has collaborations especially in the European nations. Multiple financial aids are available for the students especially from the Alumni Association. I was part of multiple teams in the campus I also did a summer internship in a company based out of IIT Madras Research Park

Various events, sports and library of the college

Annual cultural Fest has been amazing at IIT Madras especially Dom's also has a separate Fest of its own the library is amazing facilities and technological Provisions within the classrooms are really good we have Smart classes with PowerPoint presentations big screens and Smart touch displays. Sports and extracurricular activity opportunities are amazing we do have less time for it but still it is good student run groups clubs and p o r t a l s are amazingly well

What are facilities available in the college hostel?

Hostel facility is really amazing first year students get to stay in mandakini hotel which is the newest constructed 10 floor building with all facilities and amenities it it has automatic washing machines amazing washrooms good rooms Windows fans are desk chair almirahs and everything. The food of IIT Madras is good we have veg non veg and north south options and the menu is different for all 14 days we can also change the mess after every month

Faculty and learning experience in the campus

The Faculty to student ratio is good also I believe the faculty is more focused towards operations this course is good for people with tech or strong engineering background. The Faculty credential and approach to teaching and mentorship is amazing they are very friendly and approachable and their academic excellence is demonstrated by the number of papers they have written Awards they have won and their vast industry experience.

What is the admission process of the campus?

To be eligible in the course or you need to have a 3 year or four year graduation. The selection is done through cat exam being a gem candidate I would recommend being in 97.5 percentile and above. After get exam you need to apply from the item address website the release forms within a week or so after the cat results are announced the admission processes fairly decent there would be less transparency and you would not be aware of what things are going on so that is one area of improvement where they could respond to emails quicker and pick up the phones.

Admission:

I applied for a couple of IITs, new and baby IIMs during and after CAT 2020. Due to the pandemic, admission processes went completely through online mode. The admission processes began by applying for the course on their website soon after the CAT 2020 results are declared. It included attachments of our mark sheets, a few important certificates, and extra-curricular. The institute released interview call letters for shortlisted candidates. This shortlisting was based on one's aggregate of 10th, 12th and undergraduate marks along with gender diversity, academic diversity, and work experience taking into consideration. The admission process was smooth. As it was conducted online, there was only a Personal interview round. It was scheduled for 5 days. Over half of the people applied to the program got shortlisted for the Interview and in that 30% were selected and offered seat and others are in Waiting list.

If you have other options like older IIMs or private B Schools such as MDI or SP Jain, I would recommend you to go for them instead of DoMS, IIT Madras. I am not saying MBA from DoMS is a bad idea, it’s just that B Schools are best for MBA.

MBA program offered at DoMS IIT Madras has the following pros and cons

Pros

Excellent ROI
Small size, hence less competition during placements
100% placements
Average salary was recorded at INR 16.66 LPA which is similar to that of many private B Schools
IIT Madras campus offers the most dynamic campus life one could ask for providing great exposure
IIT Madras has a great student exchange program and also pays the expenses unlike other B Schools
You get to work with Engineering students on projects or startup incubators thus broadening the experience

Cons

IIT Madras has a quarter semester for the MBA instead of the usual trimester which sometimes becomes very hectic.
Being a technical Institute, its MBA program has less value than other courses offered at the Institute

Overall, DoMS offers the best experience and the MBA is a good choice considering the ROI, campus life, and exposure provided by IIT Madras.

IIT Madras has ranked 19th according to NIRF Ranking.

The students are given 360-degree education as well as imparted practical knowledge to shape them into great managers.
Multiple internship opportunities are provided to the students for them to gather practical knowledge.

While many may discredit IIM Raipur because it is not an old IIM, I will still choose it over IIT Madras DoMS. My preference is based on the following reasons

IIT is a technical institute and is yet to develop in the Business World. This restricts its bonding with leading B Schools, companies and other committees.
The crowd is more inclined towards technical education and mostly engineers. Whereas IIM Raipur welcomes a diverse crowd from various professions.
The overall environment of IIT is not suitable for a Management program. IIM Raipur has laid a perfect environment for the same.
IIM Raipur renders a perfect ambiance for boosting your business and management skills. Such an opportunity is not there in IIT.

To get a deeper insight into the credibility of IIM Raipur try comparing the companies that visit the campus with that of IIT Madras.

How good is DOMS IIT Madras as compared to new IIMs?

As far as I got to know from my friend studying there, DOMS IIT Madras is a good institute. Also, DOMS IIT Madras is certainly better than the new IIMs. There are some reasons behind it, which I am going to share with you.

He shared one experience about an IIM Bangalore guy who was given a project to collate existing data from all the possible data streams in the function and generate a report out of it. But he was too lazy to work upon it and was not given any offer.

And after this one case, IBM finance never went to IIM Bangalore for internships ever since.

My personal experience is that IIT Madras is in fact comparable to IIM Indore and Kochi if not better; surely much better than new IIMs.

IIT Madras is a premiere Engineering college and all the courses are of premium quality and taught by world-class faculty. Talking specifically about DoMS, it has some of the oldest and most highly experienced faculty who are very cooperative and guide the students throughout their journey.

IIT Madras faculty are experts in their area of specialization mainly because my cousin was an M S - Mech student, and had to audit classes, with the Consent Of Teachers in the Management Studies department. She was fortunate enough to avail the opportunity to teach in DoMS. She was impressed by the faculty of the department and shared her wonderful experience.

Not only in academics but the department is also known for its valuable research work done by MS students. Many students even opt for Ph.D. after completing their MS. IIT Madras’ Central Library is no joke given the huge variety of books and unique research materials. It runs 24/7 and one can even photocopy necessary material for research purposes.

Without further hesitation, go for MS at DoMS IIT Madras and you will realize how wonderful a decision it was.
