Course Curriculum Overview
I was interested in knowing more about the politics of the country, additionally, it was going to help me out with my UPSC optional. Though the faculty-student ratio has increased now, still professors are easily accessible to discuss. One can approach their chambers, also each student gets an academic advisor allotted. The faculty here is one of the best in the country, even overseas. That is the foremost reason why students want to be here. The teaching method is very impersonal, where Faculty itself has the power to design the syllabus and assess them as they want. The course is not easy, and rigorous and one should engage properly in the readings to write good answers and develop a deep understanding. Centre for political studies (CPS) takes two mid-semester exams and one end-semester exam in a semester.
Internships Opportunities
In My course, there are very less chances of getting an internship or stipend through the college itself. However, Btech guys might get projects of which I am not totally aware. Also, JNU offers internships in various industries such as Biotechnology, Media, and others. NGOs can be another choice to opt for an internship.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is quite nominal here, that is why it's enchanting for people from marginal and disadvantaged backgrounds. It ensures equity and sends the message of accessible high-quality higher education. Additionally, they also provide Nirman scholarships and MCM scholarships. whereas, Campus selection from my course is not possible and rarely happens, if ever happens.
Campus Life
JNU is considered to be one of the premier universities in India and is known for its diverse student population and academic excellence. There is no annual cultural festival as such, but many fests and events are held regularly on monthly basis. The campus is very happening, including different cultural fests such as Onam, Assam fests, Haryana fests, etc. DJ nights are quite common here. The JNU library is well-stocked with a wide variety of books, journals, and other resources for students. The library is also equipped with internet facilities and has a digital library for students to access e-books and other online resources. Classrooms in JNU are equipped with modern amenities, including audio-visual aids, and are generally well-maintained. JNU has a variety of sports and extracurricular activities on campus, including cricket, football, badminton, and more. Most importantly, they have their own student union, JNUSU which raises the student concerns collectively.
Hostel Facilities
JNU has a large number of hostels that are well-maintained. Hostel rooms in JNU generally come with basic amenities such as a bed, a study table, and a wardrobe. Usually, they are shared by two students. The hostels in JNU provide three meals a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu comprises both non-veg and veg. The food is of good quality, with a variety of dishes to choose from. The registration process for hostel accommodation is easy and facilitated by IHA. Ph.D. students usually get a single shared room in their 2nd year. Hostels are very affordable, and the mess fee is around 3000-3500.
Admission
When I applied for my master's in pol sc from JNU, it was NTA who was the conducting authority. There were 100 questions from core political science for the course POLM, in which the cut-off was around 75 for general. Mention, the entrance is one of the toughest as the number of aspirants is quite high. However, there was no negative marking back then. One should score at least 55% in their bachelor's to be eligible. All the information regarding the entrance exam, be it the application form, application fees, and application dates is easily available on NTA official website. Reservation at the entrance gets applied as per the UGC guidelines, but to highlight, JNU also offers additional deprivation points to girls and persons from marginal backgrounds. It ranges from 2 to 12, depending upon gender and quartile district lists. The admission process was smooth, but now the pattern changed after CUET arrived.
Other Applied Colleges
Delhi University - [DU] | Master of Arts [MA] (Political Science)
Jnu has its own excel in this field. Student-Professor relation is impersonal, they are more accessible. And accommodation in DU is expensive and less likely to be available. Whereas in JNU, everyone gets a hostel.
