Remarks

For a Master's in life science, you should have completed your graduation in any field. You can find the application on the IISC website after the declaration of the IIT jam and GATE result institute released its admission application form. Reservations are given as per government guidelines.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The Master in life science course here has a lot of lab research opportunities. This course gives you the flexibility to do 28 credit research of in a complete 1 year. No other institute in India gives complete 1-year research in Master course. Faculty to student ratio is almost 20:1 in the classroom and here you will be appointed to one faculty lab where the ratio is 5:1. All faculty are Scientists so you should not doubt their potential. Classes are very interactive and research-based. Exams depend upon the faculty teaching you and are not very difficult to pass but sure here you have to work hard.

Internships Opportunities

3

In life science 1st year, we are not allowed to do any internship project. In our lab, we have our projects. Truly speaking that's more important than doing an internship from any other place. Because that's the project that I was doing under the guidance of our professor. As you will work on your idea you will have a chance to publish your work. So here everyone focused on their research work.

Placement Experience

3.5

The biological sciences department as the M.Sc. course started for the first time before this department is running only integrated Ph.D. or Ph.D. programs, so honestly no idea about placement, in a life science course. But the institute had promised to give the better option. I have planned to do a Ph.D.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am not aware of the fee hike policy. In M.Sc. life science, they were not providing any financial assistance but if you have any scholarship like aspire then you can get also one. Here you will not get time to do campus jobs.

Campus Life

4.5

The annual fest of IISc is one of the biggest cultural and technical fests named PRAVEGA organized by BS-MS students of IISC. Other small functions happen during festivals and departments day. You will find all the books related to the science field in the IISc library. Once you enter the IISc you will have access to all the research journal websites. IISc has a budget of 600 crores for the journal only. All the classrooms in the biological sciences department are like seminar rooms. IISc has a big sports group for almost all the games. Swimming pool. Many social groups are managed by students you can join according to interest.

Hostel Facilities

5

If you are getting admission to IISc means you are getting a hostel. In the hostel room, you will get a chair, table, locker, bed, and light. All the rooms are well ventilated, best upon your luck you can also get a balcony with a nice outside view. Based on your area and Fooding habits you will get access to the mess. The food quality is awesome. You can choose between North Indian and south Indian mess. Also between veg and non-veg. Everyone coming to IISc will get a hostel. You will do registration at the time you come to the institute it's a very easy process.

Food and nutrition articles in newspaper made me to take this course. As it had full scope in that time. Actually curriculum is very poor in preparing us for real world application. Practical session must include more of industrial visits and projects related to industry. We had enough time to study .

I liked this biotechnology course in degree(Bsc) and i wanted to continue this course with higher studies. Hence this university is reputed one in Karnataka.. i choose this one and I got the seat and I am very happy for this. The teaching methods are really good but it depends on particular lecturers, how they teach .. For main sem exam the time was around 3 hours for 70 marks and it was moderate and can be manageable

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is fairly distributed among the 2 years. The first year broadly covers the course work, and learning of the laboratory techniques. Followed by a mini project and a major project under a professor of interest. Stem cell biology always intrigued me and this course offered exactly what I want. The curriculum focuses on training students very rigorously to make them fit for harsh conditions and situations in the real research world.
