Remarks

College management is not interested in the academic quality. It is interested in the money, just like every other nearby engineering college in Kolkata. They are very particular about the fees. If not paid in time, they charge a hefty fine of Rs. 10 per day up to the date of payment! It is quite a lot of late fee fine.

Entrance Preview

I took WBJEE 2013 and scored a rank around 16000. I opted for this college under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering because of its close proximity to my home, so that I do not waste much time in travelling and can utilize it for other stuff. Admission process was not very hectic. Staff was friendly. No bad experiences emerging from the Admission cell.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

During my time, the college was under West Bengal University of Technology (presently called Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology). Now, the college has become autonomous with its first batch passing out in 2019. My course structure was in accordance with the university guidelines. It is just like any other engineering colleges'. We are given to chose the electives as we want, except in the final year, where we are bound to study the electives which our college provides. Research-related activities are very rare to find in this college. Except a few professors, no one is actively involved in this type of work.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college does not provide internship. The training and placement cell is decent enough to notify the various open internship vacancies through email. I remember the college conducting an internship exam in the campus for a good IT company. It also arranged for my internship at Tata Consultancy Services, Kolkata. All this upon request only. It does not openly declare that it provides internship. It does only for wiling students.

Placement Experience

3.5

Placement is good compared to other nearby colleges in Kolkata. This year, around 60% of my batch mates are placed in various companies. More companies are still coming (as in May, 2017). Big players like Tech Mahindra, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, ITC Infotech and Hitachi Consulting come to visit our college for placements. Average package that goes is 3.25 LPA.

College Events

3.5

Navodaya is the annual cultural fest of Narula Institute of Technology, which is observed after Kritanj - the Techno Management fest of NiT. They are the biggest events of our college. Kritanj is held in the college campus. It boasts of events like Coding competition, Gaming competition, project display, bridge model making competiton, etc. It is quite a good experience to see the event live. Navodaya is held either in college campus or outside. During my time, we had organized it in Eco-Tourism Park, Rajarhat, with the guest celebrity being Ikka Singh. It has various events like dancing and singing competitions, recitation, drama, debate, etc. In both these events, different colleges are invited to take part too. Apart from these, we observe Saraswati Puja, Independence Day, Republic Day, and few other days of national importance.

Fee Structure And Facilities

According to the college, the fee is a bit expensive. During my time in college, first semester fees was Rs. 42,000 and in the last semester, it was 43,500. Overall, about 3.75 lakh was taken in the four years' course. The college is co-operative in facilitating various scholarships like the Merit-cum-means scholarship. But these scholarships are less than what the college actually takes from us. If we look at Haldia Institute, they have slightly less fees and better infrastructure. NiT is nothing in front of their campus. Still we have higher fees than them. I was not satisfied with the fee structure of this college.

Fees and Financial Aid

As I mentioned, college is cooperative when it comes to filling up of various scholarship forms. Most students fill up the MOMA scholarship forms or merit cum means scholarship present on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). I have availed the Merit cum means scholarship from NSP. It gave me only Rs. 30,000. I also took a loan from WBMDFC. For providing loans, college has no association with any financial institutions. You need to take it separately on your own.

Campus Life

2

Campus life is good. We don't have a very big campus, but still it is decent enough. There are student's common rooms, Student Life Centre (SLC) which consists of student members only. College campus is 100% ragging free. There are no issues regarding gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, political or economic status. Gender ratio is fair enough. There are workshops and seminars conducted in the college seminar hall from time to time. But they are few few.

Hostel Facilities

2

Hostel facilities are not good. From what I have seen in the hostel, the rooms are decent enough. They are cleaned everyday by maids. One room accommodates 4 students and is spacious enough for 4. One important thing is that the food quality is pathetic. SImply pathetic. When I was in first year, the college canteen was still not bad enough. But the hostel food is of very poor quality. Lot of requests and letters are put in constantly by the hostel students, but authorities rarely listen. Even once in these 4 years, they actually did something and changed the food provider. But the new one that came, they also did the same thing. Food quality is very poor.

Alumni/Alumna

There is no good alumni network for this college. Senior students help only those who are in touch with them. College seniors are helpful when they are in the college. It is obvious that juniors as well as seniors have to maintain their limits while interacting with each other.

Exam Structure

Exams are very strictly carried out. Although they are not very frequent, but when internal tests are conducted, they are conducted with discipline. Although in the final year, not much was properly conducted. But, since autonomy, exams are conducted well.

Admission

I procured the admission form by visiting the college directly and inquiring about the admission process. I was handed over the brochure and admission form for an amount. I was given a sheet which had the fee structure clearly written. There was no notification released as such. I went directly to the college and did everything. The administration is helpful and does not make one wait for long. They explain everything in details.

Faculty

2.5

Faculty in this college is just like any other engineering college of West Bengal. They are decent. If we compare their teaching standards with nearby colleges, then it is good. Narula Institute is the best among its sister colleges under the JIS Group. Some professors still use those old yellowish notes they had once made long ago, to teach. While most of our Computer Science teachers use projectors to teach complex concepts. Labs are well equipped, although sometimes the A.C does not work. Computers are good enough for college studies.

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin

7th semester is when the students get to sit for placements. I am not sure about the total no of companies visited but I am aware of the name of few companies like IBM Infosys Wipro Capsitech Tech Mahindra cognizant etc . Mostly the girls are 100 percent placed cause there is diversity hiring. Mass recruiters is what visit our campus mostly.. I personally would look for a job after graduation highest package offered displayed by college is 75 lpa but I don't think so it is real. Maybe someone had worked hard and got placed off campus. On campus highest isbi guess 12-14 lpa

Course Curriculum Overview:

- I choose Data Science as it is new to my college when comparing with the other branches. The curriculum is just okay it is not per industry standards but if students deep drives in each aspects then they are likely to crack GATE exams. - The whole curriculum needs and improvement from the very 1st Year and removal of irrelevant subjects like Discrete Mathematics, Electonics, Biology for IT branches are required. - Semester exams are conducted every 6 months and CTs are conducted every 2 months
