General eligibility criteria for applying to Journalism and mass communication is candidate must have passed graduation Hons(10+2+3) in any subject. And candidates must have 45% marks in graduation. Then you have to fill up the admission form whose fee is around Rs 1000. For the application form visit the college website. Then they will publish a merit list based on exam marks only. If many students get the same test marks, Hons and HS results will be the tiebreakers. After the merit list is published they will conduct counselling and confirm student identity. Then they ask to pay the fees which are around Rs 8000. Obviously, reservations are available.
Course Curriculum Overview
I want to be a tv anchor or a news editor and that's why I have taken this course. We have 57 seats in the journalism and mass communication departments. For UR candidates 23 seats, for OBC 15 seats for SC 9 for ST 4, for EWS 6 seats are available. We have a total of 5 faculties in our department. So student-faculty ratio is around 11 students per faculty. All of our faculties are good. This is a practical field. They are taking the regular class and they are given a lot of practical tasks. So that we can enrich ourselves. We have audiovisual classes, fieldwork, group discussion, group debate and many more. PG is consist of 4 semesters and we have to pass all of them. Exams are moderate to pass. We have practical exams too.
Fees and Financial Aid
Studying journalism and mass communication at Visva Bharati is more costly than any other subject at this university. For GENERAL, OBC & EWS candidates the fee for the first year is 26240. For SC/ST & PWD candidates the fee is Rs 21240. For the 2nd year again the fee is 19,240 for GEN/OBC/EWS and for SC/ST/PWD the fee is Rs 14,240. So the total fee in two years is almost 41000 for GEN/OBC/EWS and almost Rs 36000 for minority candidates. However, the student can apply for Swami Vivekananda Merit cum scholarships which pay 24000 per year and Kanyahsree for girls. This help to cover the college fees. But you have to score a minimum of 53% to get the scholarships. We do not have a job campus facility. I have heard it used to happen 5-6 years ago.
Campus Life
We have some cultural festivals in our college. We celebrate special days like Independence Day, Rabindra Jayanti, Teacher's Day, Holi, Saraswati Puja and many more. Our library room is one of the greatest. Our central library room consists of thousands of books. It's a very big building. We have a study room within the library we can take a book by showing a library card. Our classrooms are well equipped and we have audiovisual study facilities. In our auditorium room, a lot of seminars happens. We have a very beautiful greenery campus with no pollution. We have hostel facilities for boys and girls and medical care unit.
