Remarks

Overall the universities in this country, I decided to study at Visva Bharati University because it is built in a rural area and the method of teaching here is through the open learning and friendly ambience of nature. As founded by the father of Rabindranath Tagore, Debendranath Tagore referred to Santiniketan ( the area of the University) as the world in one place, and people from all over the world can come and learn together here. I chose Visva-Bharati University because I believe that classroom teaching is monotonous, and this is not at all a trend at Visva-Bharati University. In fact, we learn here through all the outdoor events and activities of the people, nature and society. This University is a diverse platform for academics as well as Art, Music, Philosophy etc.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Our course for Mass Communication and Journalism is a vast field of learning and it is updated for every new batch. Mentioning industrial exposure, yes, every now and then workshops are conducted, resulting in choosing the best ideas by students and developing them for more efficiency. We are taught about the field activities as well as a drill for disaster management in the media field. Also, research scholars guide us in the process of working on a dissertation and also teaching us data analysis for further grooming in the upcoming industrial exposure.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placement process is not that regular in our department but they guide us and accordingly, the student with good merit can achieve the required vacancy wherever they want. The Department promotes our works and ideas to the outer world and through which we get the strength to build our confidence. The Department basically stands as a backbone to our choices.

College Events

5

Visva-Bharati University is different from all the other universities in the country. Therefore, here the events are totally different and unique. Here, keeping in mind the traditional values and cultural ethnicity, cultural programmes are mainly based on a different language, society, religious history, various tribes of our country, diverse states etc. Every year, Basant Utsav is held during the month of Holi and people from across the country joins to make this event a success with songs and dance of Rabindranath Tagore. During August, which is the monsoon time, a series of Dramas are played by the students of the university for a week or so. The Department of Arts, which is Kala Bhavana, one of the prestigious Department, organises Nandan Mela promoting different forms of arts and craft by the students as a tribute to the famous artist Nandal Bose on his birth anniversary.

Campus Life

4.5

Our University is an infrastructure of large scale area and the key ingredient is greenery in between every corner. Along with the Central Library equipped with wifi, the Department has it's own library customized with books for references to the syllabus. We have also a Department itself of Physical Education and activities, providing a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a basketball court, a large field for cricket as well football.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen the course because it was my passion to serve for democracy being the fourth pillar of it. There were 4 faculty members in total and 40 students. The faculty members came from different universities. Our HOD Dr Mausumi Bhattacharya has completed her Post Doctoral fellowship from ICSSR. The exams were held twice a year based on the semester system. They were quite moderate.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is student-friendly. The students have access to the Mac Lab and Media Lab, there is also a departmental library. Though the infrastructure is not great, the faculty members still try their best to help the students in any way possible, by arranging many workshops and seminars. The focus is generally on developing academic and research aptitudes in students alongside helping them develop technical skills with limited facilities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I want to be a tv anchor or a news editor and that's why I have taken this course. We have 57 seats in the journalism and mass communication departments. For UR candidates 23 seats, for OBC 15 seats for SC 9 for ST 4, for EWS 6 seats are available. We have a total of 5 faculties in our department. So student-faculty ratio is around 11 students per faculty. All of our faculties are good. This is a practical field. They are taking the regular class and they are given a lot of practical tasks. So that we can enrich ourselves. We have audiovisual classes, fieldwork, group discussion, group debate and many more. PG is consist of 4 semesters and we have to pass all of them. Exams are moderate to pass. We have practical exams too.
