Remarks

My Interest in Research related fields was really high and I really like the overall environment of the field of research. It emanates a certain feeling of openness to new ideas, with professors and scholars eager to reach out to the students and enlighten them about their respective fields of research.IISER Mohali is a perfect college for those looking to pursue a career in Science and Research.

Course Curriculum Overview

Course Curriculum is very well designed and focuses on balancing academics with extra curricular activities for students in the 1st and 2nd year. Third year onward, the balance shifts a little toward academics. The Faculties are the real gems of the institute, and all of them are experts in their various fields of research.

Placement Experience

1

Placements as such are not a very prominent part of IISER Mohali. However, the student may pursue higher studies comfortably after the completion of the BS-MS degree. Students may apply for higher studies at prominent universities such as Carnegie Mellon, John Hopkins based on their performance and research internships completed by them during the course of the integrated BS-MS course/degree.

College Events

4.5

The campus life is excellent. Events such as DJ Nights are organized on some occasions, which result in a lot of enjoyment. Extracurricular activities is another strong part of IISER Mohali. There are clubs such as the Astronomy Club, the Curie club for chemistry enthusiasts and the Lumire club for students interested in Photography. Overall, Campus life in IISER Mohali is excellent.

Campus Life

The sports facilities are good. There are basketball courts, tennis courts and a large ground which is used for various activities. However, one thing that is lacking here is that a separate ground for Cricket and Football is not available. Wi-fi is really great in IISER Mohali. The IISER Mohali library is the crown jewel of the institute. It's a huge building, spanning 8 storeys and a huge collection of Research papers and books. The library provides a conducive environment for effective study and research. There are separate discussion Rooms in the library too, which provide a really great environment for discussions and scholarly debates.

Hostel Facilities

Hostels are mandatory for all students. Hostel corridors or Dormitories are breezy and well ventilated, along with being spacious. However the rooms are on a sharing basis for students of the first 2 years. After that students are alloted rooms on a single basis.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.
