The entrance exam I took was IIT-JEE. I took the exam in 2011 when there was only one level, unlike the current pattern. My AIR was 982. Many of my seniors, teachers recommended IIT KGP for its good reputation and hence I opted for it.

As a part of the curriculum, every student has to do an internship in their pre-final year. The college placement cell takes care of the internship process. However, not all internships are paid. In the case of paid internships, the stipend depends upon the company offering and the department of the student. It can range anything between INR 5000 per month to INR 150000 per month.

Once again, placements are taken care by the college' placement cell. A dedicated team of students and professors facilitate the procedure of placements end to end from inviting the best companies to getting the interviews of the students done. Apart from this, the placement cell also conducts training sessions to students to help students polish their skills making them more eligible.

KSHITIJ, the annual techno-management fest of IIT Kharagpur is the largest of its kind in Asia. Students from all over the country come and participate in the various events held spanning robotics, case studies, quizzes, and pro-shows. Eminent personalities from various domains are invited for guest lectures.

The fee structure varies from batch to batch. For our batch, it is 50000 per semester for general category students. The fee structure is different for SC/ST category students and is a bit relaxed. However, scholarships are available for students coming from low-income backgrounds. Education loans are provided by banks at competitive interest rates.

IIT Kharagpur has a very strong alumni network. The senior students and alumni are really helpful. One of our alumni helped me secure an internship a multinational company in my third year. You can always reach out alumni for help.

Each semester spans almost 4 months. We have a mid-semester examination after the completion of 2 months and an end semester examination at the end. The laboratory examinations are held a week before the end semester exams. The schedule is not very hectic and enough time is given for preparation.

In 2011, we had to give IIT-JEE to get into the IITs. The notification for the exam came out sometime around October. We had to apply manually then(not online). Admit cards used to be sent to the applicants. The examination was held in the month of April. The results were declared at the end of May.

Most of the faculty are highly qualified and knowledgeable. The selection procedure for the faculty positions at IIT-KGP is very exhaustive and hence only the best can make it. The professors have extensive research experience in their respective fields and available at all times for any academic help.
