Remarks
I had applied in the Heritage Institute of Technology through WBJEE 2018. I got Mechanical which I wanted to pursue. Only the students of West Bengal got a preference in admission, other state students lie in the general quota. For admission in HITK in a good branch, you have to secure a rank of less than 5000 in WBJEE. Students also get admission through JEE Mains, for which you have to apply for admission through JEE Mains rank as well after the results before counseling. A rank of 90000 and less in JEE Mains is good enough for your admission in this college. On the basis of your rank, you will get your preferred college and branch accordingly in the counseling. After getting a branch in a certain college, you have to book your seat by giving a certain amount. After booking, you can proceed to your allotted college with that allotment letter where the further process will continue.
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose mechanical because I have an interest in it. The course curriculum is good and faculty members are also good and highly qualified. Some faculty members who are on a temporary basis are not that good. HITK is an autonomous institute so it conducts exams on their own. There are 2 internals / mid sem exams and one final sem exam in a semester. Questions are tough and it is hard to pass without study, while in other colleges which are not autonomous conducts exams through university which are easier to pass. Don't think you can pass by filling the answer sheet without studying. There are a sufficient amount of faculty members available per student, no problem in that.
Internships Opportunities
There is no such internship opportunities provided by this college. They will provide you only the details of some paid internships, maybe in the future, they provide. I did a paid internship, don't expect any stipend. For doing any good internship you have to apply off-campus from where you can get a stipend also. Doing good internship matters a lot for CV and interviews so I would suggest you to do an internship related to your field from a good company.
Placement Experience
Placements are good, students will be getting calls from the placement cell from their 7th semester. Till now Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, Capgemini, Pwc have recruited so far with avg of 4-4.5LPA. Some companies are offering 7.5LPA. The highest package offered so far is 16LPA in the year 2017. 60-70 % of students will get placed which is a good number. Some students don't take placement offers because they have to target GATE. Students from the core branches can also get placed in IT industry. Lastly It is up to you that what you want and which industry you want to go.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tusion Fee is 45k-46k per semester. It is fixed for four years of your study. The hotel is provided by the college for female students in the campus itself, for male students hostel is only for the 1st year only and outside the campus and only for 30 students. The hostel fee is 4k per month excluding food. If you are financially poor and you are domicile of West Bengal you can get admission through tuition fee waiver, in that case, your whole tuition fee will get excused, this facility is not for the poor students of other states. Campus placement is very good for cse & it students because many IT companies recruit every year but this is not the case for civil & mechanical, rarely a company visit for core industry. This year till now Wipro, Capgemini, cognizant, Pwc, TCS have been recruited so far.
Campus Life
The campus of the college is good, it has 3 canteens to eat, 2 large grounds to play. There is a common room for playing indoor games in free time. College also organizes fest every year in the month of Feb but due to covid pandemic, it is not happening from 2 years. There are lots of clubs in which students can participate like retract, NSS, science, drama, yoga, sports, robotics, etc. These clubs are majorly run by students with the guidance of some faculty. Presently I am the senior coordinator of the Yoga club, there are lots of extracurricular activities in which you can involve and learn, and also you can earn credit points. There is a large 20000 sq ft fully air-conditioned library to study and interact, where you can also get newspaper, magazines, etc.
Hostel Facilities
As I already mentioned hostel facility is only for 1st year students with very limited availability. I lived in the hostel in my 1st year and I would say the food and rooms are all okay, not the best but overall okay. It would be better if college provide hostel for at least all 1 & 2 year students. If you want hostel then you have to apply first otherwise you won't get one, then you have to live in PG or you can also share a flat with other students. There are also many hostels availabe near college but all are private independent hostel, these are also good but I suggest you to go for a flat of PG. Hostel mostly charge you 4k per month, but by sharing a flat you can live more independently with same or less amount.
