KUNAL SINHA's Review On National Power Training Institute - [NPTI], Durgapur

I took AIEEE for admission in this college. However one can join this college by appearing and getting good rank in JEE Main & WBJEE. I joined this college just because of 100% placement since inception.

There is no focus on research. Course curriculum has become outdated as now a days govt is focusing on renewable energy resources whereas whole syllabus of Power Engineering focuses on Thermal Power. In Power Engineering one has to study almost full mechanical and electrical engineering. Because of this syllabus becomes very vast as compared to other stream of engineering.

No, National Power Training Institute, Durgapur does not provide any kind of internship.

Approx 100% placement. Only good thing of this institute is placement. There is no active placement cell still companies come for recruitment. Only reason is that in India not much specialised Power Engineers are available. some of the companies are Reliance Power, Tata Power, Adhunik Power & Natural Resources, Vedanta, Essar Power, Bhushan Steel, Thermax, Philips Carbon Black Limited etc.

One one cultural event ZEPHYR is conducted every year. No technical or management festival. That cultural event ZEPHYR is nice. Some Bengali Bands are invited to perform. Also if college student have their own band then they also perform in the event.

Fee structure is feasible. In 2006-2010 batch; in which I studied it was 41000 per year collected semester wise i.e. 20500 per semester. There is no hidden fee. One can also get education loan easily. There is no variation of fee during study. The fee fixed in the first year is for whole course period.

Institute does not offer any loan or scholarship facility. But education loan is available from various banks like Canara Bank, United Bank of India, Allahabad Bank etc branches available nearby. I didn't availed any loan facility as fee was less at that time.

Campus life: You can enjoy life. Durgapur is a good city. also College is located in the heart of the city i.e. City Centre. Nice place to hangout with friends. Gender Ratio: Very less. Out of 60 students you will get 5-6 girls only for obvious reasons.

Hostel rooms are not up to the mark however hostel fee is also very less comparatively. it is on sharing basis. some rooms are 3 bedded and some are 2 bedded. Seats are limited. PGs are available nearby but have to contact agents for this. One can get 1 BHK accommodation at around 4000-5000.

Exams and labs are frequent. It becomes hectic day. But attendance is not mandatory. They will allow you to appear in exams even if you are short of attendance. Yes internal marks will be less if you are not a Bengali. If you are a Bengali Guy or Girl then no need to worry.

notification was released during December-January. I appeared in AIEEE. Got the result then attended the counselling conducted by WB JEE board for AIEEE candidates. Nowadays procedure has changed. One has to appear in WB JEE or JEE Main. Notification comes in December or January online mode only. Then appear in the exam and have to get good rank.

Some of the faculties are very qualified like PhD. They have good exposure of power plants. But the bad news is that they rarely take classes for B. Tech. students. They focus on PGDC students (one course conducted by NPTI). B. Tech students get lectures mostly from M. Tech Students of NIT Durgapur.
